Hepatic enhancement in cirrhosis in the portal venous phase: what are the differences between gadoxetate disodium and gadobenate dimeglumine?

Purpose: To compare the level of parenchymal and portal venous enhancement in the portal venous phase (PVP) in cirrhotic patients undergoing gadoxetate disodium- and gadobenate dimeglumine-enhanced MRI. Methods: In this retrospective study, 84 cirrhotic patients (mean age ± SD: 66 ± 13 years) who underwent contrast-enhanced MRI with both gadoxetate disodium and gadobenate dimeglumine between 2012 and 2018 were included. Evaluation of sampling adsorbents and validation of a LC-HRMS method for determination of 28 airborne pesticides

A new strategy for sampling, using a low-volume sampler, and determination of airborne pesticides by liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS) has been developed. The trapping efficiency of three adsorbents (sandwich PUF-XAD2-PUF; XAD-2 and XAD-4) was tested for 33 currently used pesticides and the first adsorbent (PUF-XAD2-PUF) was selected because it presented the highest retention capacity without breakthrough. To test the Kirsten-Ras (Ki-Ras) alternative prenylation hypothesis in malignant transformation, we used a novel farnesyltransferase inhibitor competitive to farnesyl-pyrophosphate, RPR130401, and a CaaX peptidomimetic geranylgeranyltransferase-1 inhibitor GGTI-298. In Ki-Ras-overexpressing transformed adrenocortical cells, RPR130401 at 1-10 microM inhibited very efficiently the [(3)H]farnesyl but not [(3)H]geranylgeranyl transfer to Ras. However, proliferation of these cells was only slightly sensitive to RPR130401 (IC(50)=30 microM). Molecular analysis on the chemopreventive properties of resveratrol, a plant polyphenol microcomponent.

As a plant microcomponent, resveratrol is a polyphenolic compound produced by several species and found especially in Polygonum roots, peanuts seeds, berries and also grape and therefore can be present in human diet or beverages (red wine, for instance). Traditional chinese medicine and more recent epidemiological studies strongly suggested that resveratrol may act as a cancer chemopreventive compound. The biochemical mechanism by which resveratrol inhibits cell proliferation was provided by studies in numerous human cell lines including our work in hepatoblastoma HepG2 and colorectal tumor SW480 cells. Sterile Neutrinos, Black Hole Vacuum and Holographic Principle

We construct an effective field theory (EFT) model that describes matter field interactions with Schwarzschild mini-black-holes (SBH's), treated as a scalar field, $B_0(x)$. Fermion interactions with SBH's require a random complex spurion field, $\theta_{ij}$, which we interpret as the EFT description of "holographic information," which is correlated with the SBH as a composite system. We consider Hawking's virtual black hole vacuum (VBH) as a Higgs phase, $\langle B_0 \rangle =V$. Integrating sterile neutrino loops, the field $\theta_{ij}$ is promoted to a dynamical field, necessarily developing a tachyonic instability and acquiring a VEV of order the Planck scale. Gas-phase supersaturation effects on morphology properties of ZnO nano and microstructures grown by PVT

A systematic study of the morphology evolution of ZnO nanostructures grown by physical vapour transport was carried out. The evolution of the shape with the growth time is shown to depend on the different gas-phase supersaturation and temperature conditions encountered in the crystallization zone of the tube furnace. The observed morphology transitions are discussed, and a growth model for ZnO nanostructures is given.

Valorization of alginate for the production of hydrogen via catalytic aqueous phase reforming

Abstract Alginate, a carbohydrate abundant in the outer cell wall of macroalgae, was subjected to catalytic aqueous phase reforming (APR) to produce hydrogen using a 3% Pt/C commercial catalyst. The performance of the process was evaluated according to the conversion of the carbon to gas, the hydrogen yield and the hydrogen selectivity. The catalyst and feed amount, temperature, reaction time, pH and the presence of H2 were modified to understand the dependence of the outcome of the process on these parameters. The presence of the catalyst was fundamental in order to increase the hydrogen yield compared to the uncatalyzed reaction, and it can be reused without activity loss. In addition, it…

Bis(dichlorosilyl)methylamine - Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Conformational Analysis in the Gas Phase

A straightforward preparation has been found for bis(dichlorosilyl)methylamine, (SiHCl2)2NMe (1), involving reaction between H2NMe and an excess of SiHCl3, dissolved either in pentane or THF at 253 K. 1 and a side-product, 1,3,5-trichloro-2,4,6-trimethylcyclotrisilazane, (–SiHCl–NMe–)3 (2), were identified by elemental analysis, mass spectrometry and 1H-NMR-spectroscopy. Some physical, NMR- and IR spectroscopical properties of 1 were determined. The molecular and crystal structure of 1 was investigated by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Study of the cytolethal distending toxin (CDT)-activated cell cycle checkpoint. Involvement of the CHK2 kinase.

AbstractThe bacterial cytolethal distending toxin (CDT) triggers a G2/M cell cycle arrest in eukaryotic cells by inhibiting the CDC25C phosphatase-dependent CDK1 dephosphorylation and activation. We report that upon CDT treatment CDC25C is fully sequestered in the cytoplasmic compartment, an effect that is reminiscent of DNA damage-dependent checkpoint activation. We show that the checkpoint kinase CHK2, an upstream regulator of CDC25C, is phosphorylated and activated after CDT treatment. In contrast to what is observed with other DNA damaging agents, we demonstrate that the activation of CHK2 can only take place during S-phase. Growing length scales in a supercooled liquid close to an interface

We present the results of molecular dynamics computer simulations of a simple glass former close to an interface between the liquid and the frozen amorphous phase of the same material. By investigating F_s(q,z,t), the incoherent intermediate scattering function for particles that have a distance z from the wall, we show that the relaxation dynamics of the particles close to the wall is much slower than the one for particles far away from the wall. For small z the typical relaxation time for F_s(q,z,t) increases like exp(Delta/(z-z_p)), where Delta and z_p are constants.
