The effect of education on migration: evidence from school reform

2010

A polytechnic, higher education reform took place in Finland in the 1990s. It gradually transformed former vocational colleges into polytechnics and expanded higher education to all Finnish regions. We implement instrumental variables estimators that exploit the exogenous variation in the regional availability of polytechnic education together with matriculation exam scores. Our IV results show that polytechnic graduates have a higher migration probability than those of vocational college graduates. Dust mobilization and transport in the northern Sahara during SAMUM 2006 – a meteorological overview

The SAMUM field campaign in southern Morocco in May/June 2006 provides valuable data to study the emission, and the horizontal and vertical transports of mineral dust in the Northern Sahara. Radiosonde and lidar observations show differential advection of air masses with different characteristics during stable nighttime conditions and up to 5-km deep vertical mixing in the strongly convective boundary layer during the day. Lagrangian and synoptic analyses of selected dust periods point to a topographic channel from western Tunisia to central Algeria as a dust source region. Abstract: This paper is a philosophical reading of Samuel Beckettʼs Endgame, taking into account many of the critic suggestions of Adornoʼs interpretation, from his negative dialectics in the note Versuch, das Endspiel zu verstehen. It deals as well with the acute comments by Stanley Cavell in the chapter V of his book "Must We Mean What We Say?", a view from the philosophy of the ordinary language on this play of the Irish writer. In doing so this paper tries to commemorate the centenary of Beckettʼs birth and claims for the necessary study of the relationships between philosophical anthropology and literature in our present.

Necesidad de una coordinación socio-sanitaria ante situaciones de emergencia social en las localidades de Xàtiva y Ontinyent (España)

This article try to show up whether there is a need to coordinate the local Social Services (“SS.SS” in Spanish) with the Emergency Health Care Service (“SAMU” in Spanish) from both Xàtiva and Ontinyent (towns of the Community of Valencia) in order to allow an integrated care, carried out using an ad-hoc survey completed by (“SAMU” in Spanish) health workers and social workers from both Xàtiva and Ontinyent making up a descriptive, cross-sectional and observational study.
