peer-reviewed The Community Wellness, Empowerment, Leadership and Lifeskills (CWell) program is a two-year community-driven program developed in partnership between an underserved-community in Limerick City, and staff at the University of Limerick (UL), Ireland. This paper explores the transformative teaching and learning experiences that arose throughout the duration of the progam for the lecturers and students. Data were collected through interviews and focus groups with lecturers and students involved in the program. This paper analyses the effects of partially revocable endogenous commitments of a seller in a negotiation with a deadline. In particular, we examine when commitment is a source of strength, a source of inefficiency and when it does not affect the bargaining outcome at all. We show that when commitment possesses a minimum amount of irrevocability this crucially determines the bargaining outcome. In the bilateral bargaining case, commitment becomes a source of inefficiency since it causes a deadline effect. The understanding of graphs and extraction of relevant information from graphs plays a major role in physics education and is also important in several related fields. Recently, Susac et al. [Phys. Visualization tools provide a potentially powerful support for the learning of abstract mathematical topics in engineering courses. SimReal is a visualization tool for teaching mathematics for a wide range of engineering topics. It provides video lessons, interactive simulations and animations to enhance comprehension and engagement in abstract mathematics subjects. The aim of this paper is to explore the role of SimReal to orchestrate mathematical teaching for engineering students. It uses the framework of instrumental orchestration to configure and exploit various artefacts with the intention of performing a didactical purpose.

This paper describes a long-term research in which middle-grade school children were taught how to represent visually text key ideas through idea-mapping techniques. It consists of three studies, one for each year of our research. Children were at sixth grade when the instruction began, and they were at eighth grade when it finished. Another group of children from a different public school served as control group. Instruction was very close to the real school conditions: instructors were ordinary teachers, instruction was inserted in the content area curriculum, and ordinary textbooks were regularly employed, though combined with specially elaborated materials. Equivalence closure in the two-variable guarded fragment

2015

We consider the satisfiability and finite satisfiability problems for the extension of the two-variable guarded fragment in which an equivalence closure operator can be applied to two distinguished binary predicates. We show that the satisfiability and finite satisfiability problems for this logic are 2-ExpTime-complete. This contrasts with an earlier result that the corresponding problems for the full two-variable logic with equivalence closures of two binary predicates are 2-NExpTime-complete.

It is common for computing academics interested in outreach (computer science evangelism) to work with local schools, particularly in countries where the computing curriculum in K-12 is new or underdeveloped.
