The Homeric compound Ὑπερίων and the sun in the Indo-European culture

This paper aims at reconstructing the semantic meaning of Homeric Ὑπερίων, the epithet of the sun, whose etymology is still not clear. After presenting the modern interpretations, which describe it as an adjective in the comparative form derived from the adverbial particle ὑπέρ ‘up, above’, the ancient grammarians’ hypothesis on Ὑπερίων as a compound is tested, taking into consideration the textual analysis of those discourse contexts in which the terms for sun are used in archaic Greek and Vedic Sanskrit in comparative perspective. Effect of Polymer Length on the Adsorption onto Aluminogermanate Imogolite Nanotubes

This study evidences the adsorption of model nonionic polymers onto aluminogermanate imogolite nanotubes, attractive porous nanofillers with potential molecular loading and release applications. We resolve the underlying mechanisms between nanotubes and polyethylene glycols with different molecular weights by means of nanoisothermal titration calorimetry. The analysis of the results provides a direct thermodynamic characterization, allowing us to propose a detailed description of the energetics involved in the formation of polymer/imogolite complexes. About entangled networks of worm-like micelles: a rejected hypothesis

We report new results from small-angle neutron scattering on d(1 2)-cyclohexane/lecithin/water micellar solutions performed as a function of the water content (w(o)), temperature (T) and dispersed phase volume fraction (phi). The data from dilute samples are interpretable in terms of the existence of giant cylindrical reverse micelles and are well fit with a core-shell model (that provides the micelle structure and dimensions) with values of 28 and 45 Angstrom for the inner core and the outer shell radii, almost independent on temperature and concentration. This article analyses the contents of the manuscripts in Latin script found at the Villa Farnese of Caprarola and the Palazzo della Cancelleria of Rome at the death of Cardinal Alessandro Farnese (1520-1589). They were inventoried by Claudio Tobalducci, librarian to the Cardinal; the inventories were edited by Francois Fossier. Although the manuscript collections seem neither organic nor systematically constituted by the Cardinal (the volumes were mainly borrowed from the great Farnese library in the Palazzo Farnese in Rome), the manuscripts were used by the Cardinal in the last years of his life. This paper examines early inflectional morphology related to the tense-aspect system of Pre-Indo-European by establishing a correlation between ontogeny and phylogeny in language acquisition and development. It will be argued that historical linguistics can shed light on the long-standing debate over the emergence of tense-aspect morphology.
