Comparative analysis of architectures for monitoring cloud computing infrastructures

The lack of control over the cloud resources is one of the main disadvantages associated to cloud computing. The design of efficient architectures for monitoring such resources can help to overcome this problem. This contribution describes a complete set of architectures for monitoring cloud computing infrastructures, and provides a taxonomy of them. The architectures are described in detail, compared among them, and analysed in terms of performance, scalability, usage of resources, and security capabilities. Per-flow signalling extension across DiffServ domains

This paper describes a framework devised to extend per-flow admission control operation across Differentiated Services domains. Although the specific case of interoperability with RSVP is under discussion, our proposal can be easily adapted to other hop-by-hop signalling protocols. In our framework, DiffSery border routers accomplish three tasks. First, during the set-up phase, flows are mapped onto PHB groups on the basis of their QoS and traffic specifications. Scalable Electro-Optic Control of Localized Bistable Switching in Broad-Area VCSELs Using Reconfigurable Funnel Waveguides

We demonstrate a steplike optical modulation based on the activation and deactivation of a bistable localized structure using a photoinduced and reconfigurable miniaturized 30 × 30 μm electroactivated funnel waveguide. Control of a single 10-μm-diameter spot in a 200-μm-diameter vertical-cavity surfaceemitting laser at 980 nm is achieved modulating the phase of an exciting beam in the specific position of the spot in the cavity. This localized on-off response can be scaled into arrays and offer a possible route to fast integrated optical logical functions and memory at low intensities at near-infrared wavelengths.
