Le traitement des expressions faciales au cours de la première année : développement et rôle de l'olfaction

2015

The first year of life is critical for the development of the abilities to process facial expressions. Olfaction and expressions are both strongly linked to each other, and it is well known that infants are able to multisensorially integrate their environment as early as birth. However, most of the studies interested in multisensory processing of facial expressions are restricted to the investigation of audio-visual interactions. In this thesis, we firstly aimed to resolve different issues concerning the ontogenesis of infants’ ability to process facial expressions. Our results allowed to specify the development of visual exploratory strategies of facial emotions along the first year of life…

Autobiographical memory and the self in a single-case of chronic unilateral spatial neglect

2016

International audience; Unilateral spatial neglect (USN) is mainly defined as a condition affecting perception and the mental representation of the environment. However, nothing is known about its impact on the ability to mentally represent one's past and on personal identity. We addressed these questions in a case of chronic USN, DR, a 59-year-old right-handed woman, who underwent a variety of measures exploring the self and autobiographical memory (AM). DR showed preserved self-images and her AM performance was only preserved when memories were prompted by her own self-images and not by self-unrelated cues. Our findings are discussed in light of the interconnection between the self and AM.

From the taste of food to the sound of words: experimental research on the phonetic symbolism of tastes and aromas

2016

This article provides an analytical review of recent experimental research on the phonetic symbolism of tastes and aromas, i.e. the tendency of the general population to associate certain phono-articulatory properties of the sounds of language with certain gustatory and olfactory properties of food. It then presents the very first results of a series of original experiments carried out by the authors on the phonetic symbolism of wine tastes.

"Awake Surgery" of Slow-Growing Tumors and Cortical Excitability Measured by EEG Recordings. Preliminary Results

2012

International audience; To investigate interhemispheric imbalance following "awake surgeries" of slow-growing tumors we recorded EEG in a visuo-manual RT paradigm. Increase of cortical excitability within the ipsilesional hemisphere was signed by increased ERPs amplitude for two patients. The cortical excitability in the lesioned hemisphere may be increased to maintain performances and cerebral plasticity.

Sketching Sound with Voice and Gesture

2015

Voice and gestures are natural sketching tools that can be exploited to communicate sonic interactions. In product and interaction design, sounds should be included in the early stages of the design process. Scientists of human motion have shown that auditory stimuli are important in the performance of difficult tasks and can elicit anticipatory postural adjustments in athletes. These findings justify the attention given to sound in interaction design for gaming, especially in action and sports games that afford the development of levels of virtuosity. The sonic manifestations of objects can be designed by acting on their mechanical qualities and by augmenting the objects with synthetic and…

Toward a cognitive Discourses Semantics. Theoreticals inputs and empirical corpus-based case study in German.

2021

At the intersection between usage-based construction grammar and frame semantics, a cognitive semantic analysis is to be theorized. The present work proposes to develop for this purpose the Cognitive Discourse Analysis model. Discourse is then understood following Michel Foucault as a conceptual system based on linguistic, social and epistemic knowledge. Its linguistic operationalization is achieved through the contribution of textual linguistics and corpus following Dietrich Busse. The aim of such a methodological construction is to finely examine a corpus of recurrent texts in a cognitive perspective, and thus as close as possible to the linguistic reality, and to be able represent the en…
