Finding evidence on the innovative or positional character in medium sized manufacturing firms
2002
Through an empirically based study on 65 medium sized manufacturing firms corresponding to 12 industrial sectors and located in the Spanish region of Valencia, we seek in this paper to provide enough evidence about the prevalence of positional, static and myopic values or, instead, innovative, dynamic and open minded principles, among the firms under study. Gathered into three groups of sectors, depending on the scope of demand (weak, medium and strong demand sectors), we conclude that the weak and medium demand sectors are still facing remarkable challenges basically connected to technology issues, despite improvement in other variables directly linked to an innovative character.
Understanding the ITIL Implementation Project: Conceptualization and Measurements
2011
The purpose of this research is to contribute to the theorizing of ITIL. The paper provides a model that conceptualizes the scope and content of an ITIL implementation project, and it tests and validates measurements based on a literature study and data from a survey of 446 Nordic ITIL experts.
Analyzing the strategies used in media discourse management
2015
Digital economy is based on digital revolution and information management that gave rise to the new media image in the era of globalization. Media and media discourse management is a completely new concept for establishing innovative relations between manufacturer and consumer. The subject of interest of the present article is the analysis of the existing strategies in media discourse management. The introduction concerns the etymological meanings of the notion of discourse and its application. The main objective of the study is to reveal the capacity of media discourse management in expanding the consumers’ cognitive resources and maintaining stable information links in everyday life. The …
Security and privacy in the cloud a long-term view
2011
In this paper we analyze security and privacy aspects of the cloud. We take a long-term view since the scope of privacy is potentially the lifetime of the privacy subject. We investigate trust issues and privacy aspects for cloud service users, using subjective logic as a primary tool. We also present promising solution for credible privacy in a cloud environment.
An Extended Data Object-driven Approach to Data Quality Evaluation: Contextual Data Quality Analysis
2019
This research is an extension of a data object-driven approach to data quality evaluation allowing to analyse data object quality in scope of multiple data objects. Previously presented approach was used to analyse one particular data object, mainly focusing on syntactic analysis. It means that the primary data object quality can be analysed against secondary data objects of unlimited number. This opportunity allows making more comprehensive, in-depth contextual data object analysis. The given analysis was applied to open data sets, making comparison between previously obtained results and results of application of the extended approach, underlying importance and benefits of the given exten…
Cloud Sourcing and Paradigm Shift in IT Governance: Evidence from the Financial Sector
2020
In the digital age, organizations are increasingly shifting their applications, services and infrastructures to the cloud to enhance business agility and reduce IT-related costs. However, in moving applications and data to cloud resources organizations face new risks of privacy violations. To manage this risk, organizations need to be fully aware of threats and vulnerabilities affecting their digital re-sources in cloud. Although some previous studies have focused on the emerging challenges of cloud adoption to governance and control, we know little regarding the paradigm shifts in IT governance processes and practices. To address this gap, we conducted an exploratory case study in two larg…
The second data release of the INT Photometric Hα Survey of the Northern Galactic Plane (IPHAS DR2)
2014
The INT/WFC Photometric H-Alpha Survey of the Northern Galactic Plane (IPHAS) is a 1800 square degrees imaging survey covering Galactic latitudes |b| < 5 deg and longitudes l = 30 to 215 deg in the r, i and H-alpha filters using the Wide Field Camera (WFC) on the 2.5-metre Isaac Newton Telescope (INT) in La Palma. We present the first quality-controlled and globally-calibrated source catalogue derived from the survey, providing single-epoch photometry for 219 million unique sources across 92% of the footprint. The observations were carried out between 2003 and 2012 at a median seeing of 1.1 arcsec (sampled at 0.33 arcsec/pixel) and to a mean 5\sigma-depth of 21.2 (r), 20.0 (i) and 20.3 (H-a…
Methane and carbon monoxide infrared emissions observed at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope during the collision of comet SL-9 with Jupiter
1995
Observations with the Fourier Transform Spectrometer were conducted in spectral ranges from 1.6 to 4.7 µm from July 17 to 21 (UT) on the hot plumes appearing on the limb as well as hours or days after the impacts. We present here an analysis of the methane emission observed at 3.3 µm some 10 min after the C impact, indicating the presence of a very small (less than 100 km wide) hot region with temperatures in the 750–1500 K range within the 0.1- to 0.01-mbar region. We also report the detection of CO emission at 4.7 µm 4.5 hrs after the L impact, indicative of a temperature of 274±10 K at the ∼1016 CO molec cm−2 level. The observations suggest that the stratospheric temperature decreases wi…
Vapor phase epitaxy of Hg1−xCdxI2 on sapphire
1998
Abstract We demonstrate the possibility of growing Hg 1− x Cd x I 2 layers on sapphire substrates by vapor-phase epitaxy (VPE). The successful growth has been carried out using an α-HgI 2 polycrystalline source and a CdTe buffer layer grown on sapphire by metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE) before the Hg 1− x Cd x I 2 VPE growth. The Hg 1− x Cd x I 2 /sapphire 20–40 μm thick layers with a uniform composition in the range of x =0.2–0.6 were grown at 220–250°C for 70–300 h. The layers were studied by scanning electron microscopy, energy disperse X-ray analysis and X-ray diffractometry. Results on the layer characterization are reported and the effect of VPE conditions on the layer proper…
Structural characterization of CdTe layers grown on (0001) sapphire by MOCVD
2004
Abstract We report on the growth of CdTe layers directly onto (0 0 0 1) sapphire substrates by MOCVD. The structure and morphology of the layers have been investigated as a function of growth temperature and II/VI precursor molar ratio by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The texture of the samples has revealed the existence of a temperature threshold, with higher growth temperatures resulting on completely (1 1 1) oriented layers. Some of these layers contained microtwins, as indicated by the extra peaks in the {4 2 2} Φ scans, leading to the existence of two different domains. The structural quality of each domain, as well as of the sample as a whole, has been determined…
