La scuola di architettura di Palermo, 1779-1865
2007
Sepsis due to Streptococcus pneumoniae associated with secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis in a splenectomized patient for spherocytosis
2017
Abstract Rationale: Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a syndrome that is characterized by an inappropriate hyperinflammatory immune response – primary, as a consequence of a genetic defect of NK cells and cytotoxic T lymphocytes or – secondary, in the progression of infections, rheumatic or autoimmune diseases, malignancies or metabolic diseases. Patient concerns: We present the case of a secondary HLH due to Streptococcus pneumoniae infection in a splenectomised patient for spherocytosis, a 37-year-old patient who was splenectomised in childhood for spherocytosis, without immuneprophylaxis induced by antipneumococcal vaccine. Outcomes: He developed a severe pneumococcal sepsis as…
Adsorptive Separation of CO2 by a Hydrophobic Carborane-Based Metal-Organic Framework under Humid Conditions
2023
We report that the carborane-based metal-organic framework (MOF) mCB-MOF-1 can achieve high adsorptive selectivity for CO2:N2 mixtures. This hydrophobic MOF presenting open metal sites shows high CO2 adsorption capacity and remarkable selectivity values that are maintained even under extremely humid conditions. The comparison of mCB-MOF-1' with MOF-74(Ni) demonstrates the superior performance of the former under challenging moisture operation conditions.
Mothers' parenting stress and adolescents' emotional separation: The role of youngsters' self orientation
2015
The study examined the association among mothers’ parenting stress, adolescents’ emotional separation and self-orientation toward connectedness. Participants were 194 Italian adolescents, aged from 15 to 19 years (mean age = 17.39, SD = 1.18), and their mothers, aged from 33 to 64 years (mean age = 44.35, SD = 5.40). General findings showed that adolescents’ emotional separation may not necessarily be associated with their mothers’ parenting stress, but both of these variables may be related to adolescents’ personal characteristics, which may contribute to define parent-child relationship. Particularly, adolescents’ orientation towards a connected self was associated negatively with emotion…
Children in Diaspora: Some Anthropological Reflections on Oppression, Hunger and Malnutrition
2017
Over the last few years, the link between health and migration has acquired an increasingly clear and precise social and political significance in the context of relations between Italy and the undeveloped areas of the world.
Rilevazione, creazione, resistenza: l'opinione separata e il diritto internazionale
2022
Separate opinions have made the object of extensive scholarship in recent decades: in the international legal order, this is a consequence of that institution’s peculiar success, as virtually all judiciary and quasi-judiciary bodies allow for the allegation of separate opinions (either concurring or dissenting) to their rulings. This contribution tests the impact of separate opinions on subsequent case law and opinions, on the process of international law-making, and eventually on the mechanisms through which the Italian legal order adapts to international law as interpreted by international judiciary or quasi-judiciary bodies. The practice under scrutiny is admittedly multifarious; yet, it…
Anxiety disorders in developmental age
2018
Anxiety disorders represent the more common psychiatric disorder in developmental age and it is estimated that a third of adolescents satisfy the criteria for an anxiety disorder at the age of 18. Many researches show that the disorders of anxiety in childhood are associated with anxiety disorders in adulthood, depressive disorders and use of psychoactive substances. Suffering from anxiety disorders, such as specific phobia, agoraphobia, social anxiety or panic disorder, represents a strong predictor for the development of other psychiatric disorders consequential. In the literature the debate on the weight of environmental factors and genetic factors in determining the development of anxie…
Review of the SISAK system in transactinide research
1998
Abstract The performance of the SISAK 1 liquid–liquid extraction system applied in transactinide experiments has been improved with respect to the equipment itself and the way it is operated. The improvements were checked in on-line experiments, under conditions similar to those during transactinide experiments. As a result, the yield of the separation system was increased by a factor >5. Furthermore, a cleaner organic scintillation phase was obtained due to a better phase separation. This reduced the β-background, which disturbs the α-measurements. The sensitivity of the SISAK apparatus, including the gasjet and the detection system has been improved by more than one order of magnitude.
On the number of limit cycles which appear by perturbation of separatrix loop of planar vector fields
1986
Consider a fami ly of vector fCelds x~ on the plane. This fami ly depends on a parameter ~ ~ /R A, for some A ~ /~, and is supposed to be 0 ~ in (m,~) 6 /i~ 2X /~A. Suppose that for ~ = O, the vector f i e l d X o has a separatrix loop. This means that X o has an hyperbol ic saddle point s o and that one of the stable separatr ix of 8 o coincides with one of the unstable one. The union of th is curve and s o is the loop ?. A return map is defined on one side of r .
