Blind multi-user detection by fast fixed point algorithm without prior knowledge of symbol-level timing
2003
We consider the estimation of the source process of the desired user an the downlink of a code-division multiple access (CDMA) communication system. In downlink signal processing, only the code of the mobile telephone user is known, while the codes of the interfering users are unknown. Blind source separation or independent component analysis is an approach offering the solution to this problem. In this work we apply the fast fixed point algorithm to the separation problem. The algorithm is based on fourth-order statistics optimization. Knowledge about the symbol level timing has to be known only coarsely.
Blind source separation for OFDM with filtering colored noise out
2011
Two blind algorithms that are developed with the intention of improving the symbol detection of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) techniques are proposed in this paper. OFDM systems are easy to equalize in implementations. The schemes are based on the theories of blind source separation (BSS). They are among the premier mechanisms used for extracting unobserved signals from observed mixtures in signal processing. In this study noise component of the received signal mixture is tried to be filtered out. A scalar energy function with the iterative fixed point rule for receive signal is used in determining the filter coefficients while taking the time correlation properties of t…
A Simple Entropic-Driving Separation Procedure of Low-Size Silver Clusters, Through Interaction with DNA
2021
Abstract Synthesis and purification of metal clusters without strong binding agents by wet chemical methods are very attractive for their potential applications in many research areas. However, especially challenging is the separation of uncharged clusters with only a few number of atoms, which renders the usual techniques very difficult to apply. Herein, we report the first efficient separation of Ag2 and Ag3 clusters using the different entropic driving forces when such clusters interact with DNA, into which Ag3 selectively intercalates. After sequential dialysis of the samples and denaturalizing the DNA‐Ag3 complex, pure Ag2 can be found in the dialysate after extensive dialysis. Free Ag…
Efficient selection of silenced primary cells by flow cytometry
2007
Background: RNA interference has emerged as a new and potent tool to knockdown the expression of target genes and to investigate their functions. For short time experiments with mammalian cell lines, RNA interference is typically induced by transfecting small interfering RNAs (siRNAs). Primary cells constitute important experimental systems in many studies because of their similarity to their in vivo counterparts; however, transfection of these cells has been found to be difficult. As a consequence, RNA interference of primary cells may result in mixed phenotypes because of the simultaneous presence in the same preparation of transfected and nontransfected cells. This may be particularly in…
Emotional separation and detachment as two distinct dimensions of parent--adolescent relationships
2011
The study examined adolescents’ emotional separation and detachment from parents, analyzing their relations with connectedness and agency, with some aspects of self—other boundary regulation and with problem behavior. The participants were 331 Italian adolescents, aged from 16 to 19 years (mean age = 17.40, SD = 1.14). Separation and detachment were positively related; they were negatively related to connectedness; detachment was also negatively associated to agency. Emotional separation was negatively predicted by empathic concern, perspective-taking and separate self; emotional detachment was negatively predicted by empathic concern and self—other differentiation. Separation negatively p…
Modification of the Selectivity Properties of Tubular Ceramic Membranes after Alkaline Treatment
2017
International audience; This work focuses on the selectivity modification of ceramic membranes after a mild alkaline treatment. Filtration of pure saltwater solutions was carried out with commercial titania membranes before and after the treatment. After treatment, the rejection of NaF significantly decreased, while the rejection of NaCl and NaBr increased. Additionally, NaI and Na 2 SO 4 remained close to zero. Pore size and electrical charge being almost unchanged, only significant modifications in the dielectric effects can explain this modification of selectivity. Therefore, the surface chemistry and the interaction (nature and magnitude) with the solvent and with the species present in…
Mobile Security with Location-Aware Role-Based Access Control
2012
Published version of an article from the book: Security and privacy in mobile information and communication systems. Also available on SpringerLink: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-30244-2_15 This paper describes how location-aware Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) can be implemented on top of the Geographically eXtensible Access Control Markup Language (GeoXACML). It furthermore sketches how spatial separation of duty constraints (both static and dynamic) can be implemented using GeoXACML on top of the XACML RBAC profile. The solution uses physical addressing of geographical locations which facilitates easy deployment of authorisation profiles to the mobile device. Location-aware RBAC c…
Determination of organophosphate flame retardants in soil and fish using ultrasound-assisted extraction, solid-phase clean-up, and liquid chromatogra…
2017
A solid–liquid extraction method in combination with high‐performance liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry was developed and optimized for extraction and analysis of organophosphorus flame retardants in soil and fish. Methanol was chosen as the optimum extraction solvent, not only in terms of extraction efficiency, but also for its broader analyte coverage. The subsequent clean‐up by solid‐phase extraction is required to eliminate matrix coextractives and reduce matrix effects. Recoveries of the optimized method were 50–121% for soil and 47–123% for biota, both with high precision (RSDs <12% in soil and <23% in biota). The method limits of detection ranged from 0.06 to 0.20 ng…
Gelchromatographie. 9. Mitt.: Polymethacrylatgele1
1970
Heat-transfer performance comparison between overlapped and woven spacers for membrane distillation
2016
Sustainable production of fresh water from seawater desalination is a problem of crucial importance nowadays. Recently, some desalination technologies are taking advantage from the coupling with renewable resources. Among emerging technologies, Membrane Distillation (MD) is considered as one of the most promising as it can be easily powered by solar thermal energy or waste-heat. As an emerging technology, efforts are required to optimize MD unit geometry and operating conditions in order to reduce fresh water production specific cost. Temperature polarization phenomenon is a well-known detrimental effect for the MD process. Spacers are traditionally used to enhance mixing and shrink tempera…
