Advanced descriptors for long-range noncovalent interactions between SARS-CoV-2 spikes and polymer surfaces.

The recent pandemic triggered numerous societal efforts aimed to control and limit the spread of SARS-CoV-2. One of these aspects is related on how the virion interacts with inanimate surfaces, which might be the source of secondary infection. Although recent works address the adsorption of the spike protein on surfaces, there is no information concerning the long-range interactions between spike and surfaces, experimented by the virion when is dispersed in the droplet before its possible adsorption. Abstract Amino acid hydrochlorides are well transported through 1-decanol membranes containing Kryptofix 5 or 222 and supported in a porous polyacrylonitrile hollow fiber matrix. Factors which influence the transport of phenylalanine hydrochloride were studied in some detail using this sheet- as well as hollow fibre-supported liquid membranes. These studies show that the choice of the membrane phase, the kind of polymeric support and the mode of membrane preparation are of great importance for the efficiency of the process. Determination of aminoglycoside and macrolide antibiotics in meat by pressurized liquid extraction and LC-ESI-MS

A simple method for the simultaneous determination of dihydrostreptomycin, spectinomycin, spiramycin, streptomycin, tilmicosin, and tylosin in meat has been developed using pressurized liquid extraction and LC-triple quadrupole MS (LC-ESI-MS/MS). The pressurized liquid extraction operational parameters were optimized and no protein precipitating and fat removing steps were required. A gradient HPLC separation was developed with ion-pair mobile phases consisting of aqueous 1 mM heptafluorobutyric acid water and methanol. Protonated molecules were used as precursor ions for CID. 45 g of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA 500) with a trimodal molar mass distribution (Mw = 500 kg/mol, (Mw/Mn) −1 = 2.33) were fractionated by means of CPF (continuous polymer fractionation) in two steps using 1,4-dioxane as solvent. The counter-current extraction was performed in a glass column (length: 190 cm, diameter: 1.5 cm) filled with a network of wires, introducing the feed 75 cm from its upper end. The distribution of the highest molar mass fraction (Mw = 760 kg/mol) is unimodal and comparatively narrow ((Mw/Mn) −1 = 0.66). Methacrylate ester-based monolithic columns for nano-LC separation of tocopherols in vegetable oils

The separation and determination of tocopherols (Ts) in vegetable oils by nano-LC chromatography with UV-vis detection using lauryl methacrylate ester-based monolithic columns has been developed. The separation of Ts was optimized in terms of mobile phase composition on the basis of the best compromise among efficiency, resolution and analysis time. Using a mobile phase composed of ACN/methanol/water, an excellent resolution between Ts was achieved within 18 min. The LODs were lower than 0.26 μg/mL, being repeatability values of retention time and peak area below 0.15 and 3.1%, respectively. Chip for dielectrophoretic microbial capture, separation and detection I: theoretical basis of electrode design

Abstract We model the dielectrophoretic response of E. coli bacterial cells and red blood cells, upon exposure to an electric field. We model the separation, capture, and release mechanisms under flow conditions in a microfluidic channel and show under which conditions efficient separation of different cell types occurs. The modelling work is aimed to guide the separation electrode architecture and design for experimental validation of the model. The dielectrophoretic force is affected both by the geometry of the electrodes (the gradient of the electric field), the Re{CM(ω)} factor, and the permittivity of the medium ϵm.
