2021
The proteomic analysis was performed at the proteomics facility of SCSIE, University of Valencia (Burjassot, Spain) that belongs to ProteoRed, PRB2-ISCIII, Madrid, Spain. We also thank Dr. Tatiana Corey, Dr. Amy Beierschmitt and Dr. Pompei Bolfa for their support during sample collection.
L'utilità dell'inutile - The Usefulness of Uselessness - La utilidad de lo inutil
2015
Angiotensin II dependent cardiac remodeling in the eel Anguilla anguilla involves the NOS/NO system
2017
Angiotensin II (AngII), the principal effector of the Renin-Angiotensin System (RAS), plays an important role in controlling mammalian cardiac morpho-functional remodelling. In the eel Anguilla anguilla, one month administration of AngII improves cardiac performance and influences the expression and localization of molecules which regulate cell growth. To deeper investigate the morpho-functional chronic influences of AngII on the eel heart and the molecular mechanisms involved, freshwater eels (A. anguilla) were intraperitoneally injected for 2 months with AngII (1 nmol g BW-1). Then the isolated hearts were subjected to morphological and western blotting analyses, and nitrite measurements.…
Acid sensitivity of neomycin-resistant mutants ofOenococcus oeni: a relationship between reduction of ATPase activity and lack of malolactic activity
1999
Mutants of Oenococcus oeni were isolated as spontaneous neomycin-resistant mutants. Three of these mutants harbored a significantly reduced ATPase activity that represented 50% of that of the wild-type strain. Their growth rates were also impaired at pH 5.3 (46-86% of the wild-type level). However, the profiles of sugar consumption appeared identical to those of the parental strain. At pH 3.2, all the mutant strains failed to grow and a drastic decrease in viability was observed after an acid shock. Surprisingly, all the isolated mutants were devoid of malolactic activity. These results suggest that the ATPase and malolactic activities of O. oeni are linked to each other and play a crucial …
Genetic Engineering Strategies for Abiotic Stress Tolerance in Plants
2015
Crop plants are affected by a variety of abiotic stresses such as salinity, drought, extreme temperatures, and oxidative stress and cause a significant yield loss (more than 50 %). In the near future, these abiotic stresses might increase because of global climate change. Abiotic stresses lead to dehydration or osmotic stress through reduced availability of water for vital cellular functions and maintenance of turgor pressure and also result in high production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Plants are evolved with various mechanisms such as changes in cellular and metabolic processes to cope with the stress condition. Recent developments in molecular genetics have contributed greatly to …
Annual cycles of apoptosis, DNA strand breaks, heat shock proteins, and metallothionen isoforms in dab (Limanda limanda): influences of natural facto…
2013
The present study was undertaken to investigate the influence of natural and anthropogenic stressors on the induction of apoptosis, metallothionein (MT) isoforms, heat shock proteins and DNA strand breaks in the marine flatfish dab (Limbanda limanda) Seasonal changes and possible physiological influences were evaluated over a 1-year period at a fixed location northwest of Helgoland in the German Bight. These results were compared with data from sampling sites in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Annual cycles could be observed for all parameters except for Cd. The data revealed that changes in biomarker are not only linked to physiological processes related to reproduction but also to facto…

Elektrophysiologische Untersuchung zum Einsatz von Streptolysin O und Natrium-Hyaluronat zur Permeabilitätsmodulation der Membran des runden Fensters…
2003
Background: The round window membrane (RWM) acts like a barrier for topically applied substances into the middle ear preventing diffusion into the perilymphatic fluid compartment. Material and Method: In an animal model, modulation of the permeability of the RWM was attempted using Streptolysin-O (SLO) in various concentrations and sodium hyaluronate. Thereafter, the effect of intratympanically applied Lidocain 2% on hearing threshold measured by auditory brainstem response was tested for Lidocain 2 % and Lidocain 2 % in combination with SLO or sodium hyaluronate. Results: The results show that both, SLO and sodium hyaluronate, influence the effect of Lidocain 2 % on hearing thresholds as a…
<title>Hardening in LiF, induced by fast Kr and Ni ions, and recovery of the structure and properties under annealing</title>
2005
The recovery of optical and mechanical properties of LiF crystals irradiated with 790 MeV 78Kr and 640 MeV 58Ni ions at 10l2 ions/cm2 under annealing at temperatures up to 810 K is investigated. The optical absorbance and depth profiles of hardness before and after annealing were measured. A marked recovery of hardness and change in the optical absorption spectra were observed at temperatures above 520-530 K. An activation energy of 0.15±0.02eV, which is close to that for the thermal migration of H centers, is obtained from the annealing data. The results indicate a significant role of the H-center aggregates in the hardening and annealing processes. The maximum hardening is created and the…
Intrinsic absorption threshold of stishovite and coesite
2004
Abstract The optical absorption spectra of the small mono-crystals samples of stishovite and coesite were studied at first. The intrinsic absorption threshold of stishovite is determined at 8.75 eV, being probably, highest in the family of different crystalline polymorph modifications of silicon dioxide. The absorption spectrum of stishovite is independent of temperature (studied in the range 290–450 K). The intrinsic absorption threshold of coesite mono-crystal situated near 8.6 eV at 293 K, coincides within experimental errors with that of α-quartz crystal, and depends on temperature, as used to be for the tetrahedron structured silicon dioxide crystalline modifications. A broad absorptio…
