Concurrent and Distributed Projection through Local Interference for Wireless Sensor Networks

In this paper we use a gossip algorithm to obtain the projection of the observed signal into a subspace of lower dimension. Gossip algorithms allow distributed, fast and efficient computations on a Wireless Sensor Network and they can be properly modified to evaluate the sought projection. By combining computation coding with gossip algorithms we proposed a novel strategy that leads to important saving on convergence time as well as exponentially decreasing energy consumption, as the size of the network increases.

Modeling Atmospheric Turbulence via Rapid Distortion Theory: Spectral Tensor of Velocity and Buoyancy

Abstract A spectral tensor model is presented for turbulent fluctuations of wind velocity components and temperature, assuming uniform vertical gradients in mean temperature and mean wind speed. The model is built upon rapid distortion theory (RDT) following studies by Mann and by Hanazaki and Hunt, using the eddy lifetime parameterization of Mann to make the model stationary. Validation of buoyancy driven spectral tensor model using HATS data

We present a homogeneous spectral tensor model for wind velocity and temperature fluctuations, driven by mean vertical shear and mean temperature gradient. Results from the model, including one-dimensional velocity and temperature spectra and the associated co-spectra, are shown in this paper. The model also reproduces two-point statistics, such as coherence and phases, via cross-spectra between two points separated in space. Spintronic devices operating with pure spin currents represent a new paradigm in nanoelectronics, with higher energy efficiency and lower dissipation as compared to charge currents. This technology, however, will be viable only if the amount of spin current diffusing in a nanochannel can be tuned on demand while guaranteeing electrical compatibility with other device elements, to which it should be integrated in high-density three-dimensional architectures. A LiDAR Prototype with Silicon Photomultiplier and MEMS Mirrors

In this paper, we present a low cost prototype of a Time-Of-Flight (TOF) LiDAR system, employing a SiPM as photo detector and MEMS mirrors in order to steer the nanosecond pulsed optical beam with a scanning angle of +/-6°. Preliminary TOF measurements have been performed both indoor and outdoor to test the limits of the system.

LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) systems measures the distance from the sensor to the target by determining the time between the release of the laser pulse to the receiving of the backscattered pulse. The interest in LiDAR technology has exploded in recent years since the applications are numerous. Comparison in terms of TOF measurements between APD and SiPM for LiDAR applications

We present an experimental comparison of two LiDAR systems, employing the SiPM and the APD as photodetectors, in terms of TOF measurements differing for the distance of the target and at different intensities of ambient light. The use of the APD represents the conventional approach, while the implementation of the SiPM is innovative. The performed measurements achieved very promising results, thus demonstrating the effectiveness of our LiDAR based on SiPM.

Vitellogenin, a storage protein, has been extensively studied for its egg-yolk precursor role, and it has been suggested to be fundamentally involved in caste differences in social insects. More than one vitellogenin copy has been reported in several oviparous species, including ants. However, the number and function of different vitellogenins, their phylogenetic relatedness and their role in reproductive queens and non-reproductive workers has been studied in few species only. Fever and rhomboid target lesion in decompensated cirrhosis

A 53-year-old woman with Child-Pugh B, hepatitis C virus-related cirrhosis presented with a 3 day history of high fever (peak 39·5°C) and a non-itchy rash. On admission, physical examination showed mild ascites, and a temperature of 38·5°C, a pulse rate of 88 beats per min, and a respiratory rate of 18 breaths per min were recorded. Many large (about 15 cm diameter) target lesions were present on the patient’s trunk and arms and legs, seen as concentric rings of a dull red, pink, or violet colour surrounding a clear centre (fi gure).
