La competittività di una destinazione turistica
2013
Measuring destination competitiveness and identifying its determinants are strategic goals for pol-icy makers and tourism stakeholders. In order to do so, the availability of valid and reliable moni-toring tools is requested. In this context quantitative measurement tools, such as composite indi-cators, able to account for complexity and providing easily interpretable measures, represent a useful option. Nowadays composite indicators are commonly used for these aims but some criticism is suggested on how this happens. In this paper we provide some definitions of destination competitiveness and focus on related measurement approaches. In particular, supply-side competitiveness is distinguish…
The promotion of tourism in Italian regions from a sensorial perspective: a website content analysis
2022
Recent tourism literature has identified the sensory dimension as key to understanding, planning and marketing tourist experiences. This paper aims to understand to what extent Italian regions consider the sensorial perspective in tourist communication, focusing the analysis on their institutional websites. We used the content analysis method considering two different periods to investigate the evolution of Italian tourism promotion. The results show that for all institutional websites, over time, attention engages only some of the five sensorial dimensions. That is, the communication does not appear balanced. Furthermore, the promotional communication in several regions is more oriented to…

The role of digital information sources in the travel planning process
2021
World Economic Forum’s Digital Transformation Initiative emphasizes that digitalisation in tourism is transforming the industry at an exponential rate across the globe. Current tourist behaviour patterns are changing not so much in travel habits as in the ways of finding and using travel information. These digitalisation changes are evident at all travel stages starting from dreaming about the future trip, planning and booking necessary tourism services, as well as sharing information and evaluating experiences. Tourist destination organisations and companies need to make strategic decisions, when sharing information, to reach the target audience in a smart and efficient way. The purpose of…
Semi-natural habitats in boreal Europe: a rise of a social-ecological research agenda
2021
The European continent contains substantial areas of semi-natural habitats, mostly grasslands, which are among the most endangered habitats in Europe. Their continued existence depends on some form of human activity, for either production or conservation purposes, or both. We examined the share of semi-natural grasslands within the general grassland areas in boreal Europe. We reviewed research literature across the region to compile evidence on semi-natural grasslands and other semi-natural habitats, such as wooded pastures, in respect to a range of topics such as ecology, land-use change, socioeconomics, and production. We also explored drivers of the research agenda and outlined future re…
The legacy of human use in Amazonian palm communities along environmental and accessibility gradients
2023
Aim: Palms are iconic and dominant elements of neotropical forests. In the Amazon region, palms have been used and managed by humans for food, material, medicine and other purposes for millennia. It is, however, debated to what extent the structure of modern palm communities reflects long-term human modification. Here, we investigate the complex interplay of ecological and societal factors that influence the distributions of both human-used and non-used palms in western Amazonia. Location: Amazonia. Time period: Present. Major taxa studied: Palms (Arecaceae). Methods: We used Bayesian hierarchical joint species distribution models to predict the distributions and environmental niche dimensi…
User Preference and Channels Use in the Employment Seeking Process
Trust is a major issue for social capital theory and the word- of mouth concept. This paper compares social network sites with other media under consideration of trust and support. The research evaluates the difference between sources regarding trust and support to explain the situation of social network sites under consideration of the employment seeking process. It is to identify the possible differences between information channels and the reasons for the use of different sources…

Sosiaalinen pääoma ja yksilötason tulokehitys Suomessa
2018
Tässä tutkimuksessa tarkastelemme yksilön sosiaalisista verkostoista muodostuvan sosiaalisen pääoman yhteyttä yksilötason tulokehitykseen. Analyysimme perustuvat vuoden 1986 elinolotutkimukseen osallistuneisiin 20–44 vuotiaisiin työllisiin ja rekisteritietoihin heidän palkkatuloistaan vuosilta 1987–1997. Tutkimuksessa erottelemme toisistaan sitovan ja silloittavan sosiaalisen pääoman muodot. Sitovan sosiaalisen pääoman mittarimme perustuu yksilön mahdollisuuteen saada apua verkostoistaan erilaisissa arkielämän tilanteissa. Silloittavaa sosiaalista pääomaa mittasimme yksilöiden yhdistysjäsenyyksien monipuolisuuden kautta. Analyysit suoritettiin paloittain jatkuvalla linea…
