Photodegradation of polyglycidol in aqueous solutions exposed to UV irradiation

The photodegradation of polyglycidol in aqueous solution with UV wavelength of 254 nm was investigated. The experiments were carried out in air at a constant temperature and the photodegradation of polyglycidol (PGl) was compared to that of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), the most widely studied polyether. Size exclusion chromatography with multiangle light scattering detection (SEC-MALLS) was used to measure the changes in the molar masses and molar mass dispersities of polymers during degradation. Functional Group Distribution and Gradient Structure Resulting from the Living Anionic Copolymerization of Styrene and para-But-3-enyl Styrene

The functional group distribution along the polymer backbone resulting from the living anionic copolymerization of styrene (S) and para-but-3-enyl styrene (pBuS) was investigated in cyclohexane at room temperature. A variety of copolymers with different comonomer contents x(S) = 0–0.84 have been synthesized with molecular weight dispersities Mw/Mn ≤1.12. All polymers have been characterized in detail by 1H NMR spectroscopy, size exclusion chromatography (SEC), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Abstract Thermal and thermo-oxidative degradation of polyamide 11 (PA11) in the melt state (T = 215 °C) are studied by resorting to time-resolved mechanical spectroscopy. Such an approach allows to elude the changes in the rheological properties occurring while testing, thus enabling the rigorous study of polymer degradation in the melt state. Different concurrent degradation reactions in oxidative (air) and non-oxidative (N2) environment are promptly guessed by studying the time evolutions of rheological functions. Molecular characterization of α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-dl-aspartamide derivatives as potential self-assembling copolymers forming polymeric micelles

A family of graft copolymers derivatives obtained from α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-dl-aspartamide (PHEA) have been studied as potential self-assembling macromolecules forming stable polymeric micelles at low critical micellar concentration. These polymers are obtained grafting on PHEA poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) (Mw 5000 g/mol) (PHEA–PEG), hexadecylamine (PHEA–C16) or both moieties (PHEA–PEG–C16). Abstract α , β -Poly(asparthylhydrazide) (PAHy) is a new synthetic polymer that exhibits interesting properties and is a candidate for biomedical applications. In this article the characterization of PAHy polymer by multi-angle laser light scattering (MALS) and single-capillary viscometer (SCV) detectors on-line to a size exclusion chromatography (SEC) system is reported. The SEC–MALS–SCV system furnishes exhaustive and consistent characterization of the PAHy polymer. Studies on the Mechanism of Inhibition by Phosphinothricin of Glutamine Synthetase Isolated from Triticum aestivum L.

Summary The activity of glutamine synthetase (EC 6.3.1.2) isolated from roots and leaves of wheat is strongly inhibited by phosphinothricin. As revealed by gel filtration and kinetic studies the mechanism of inhibition appears to be irreversible. The results indicate that the rate limiting step of the reaction of the inhibitor with the chloroplast glutamine synthetase is not the initial, but the following reaction. However, of root glutamine synthetase the irreversible inhibition follows a second order reaction depending on the concentration of the enzyme and of phosphinothricin and the rate limiting step is the formation of the initial enzyme-inhibitor complex. Systematic investigation of functional core variation within hyperbranched polyglycerols

A novel series of hyperbranched polyether polyols with various n-alkyl amine cores (mono- and bifunctional) and photoactive cores (benzylamine and 1-naphthylmethylamine) have been prepared. Polymerization of glycidol was carried out in two ways, starting directly from primary amine initiators and from bisglycidolized amine initiators. NMR spectroscopy and size exclusion chromatography (SEC) showed good control over the molecular weights only, when bisglycidolized amines were used. Fractal calibration in size-exclusion chromatography

Abstract The elution behaviour of different polymer–solvent systems in three types of organic columns for SEC has been compared and interpreted. The experimental data show that the classical universal calibration is not accomplished. Deviations from a unique curve are observed due to the binary and ternary interactions between the components of the system (solvent, polymer and gel) which results on secondary mechanisms accompanying the main pure or “ideal” SEC separation mechanism.
