Prefractionation of aroma extracts from fat-containing food by high-performance size-exclusion chromatography
1996
A method for the prefractionation of aroma extracts of fat-containing food using high-performance size-exclusion chromatography is presented. The aim was to obtain a fraction of volatile compounds with a residual triglyceride content as low as possible, in order to allow its direct analysis by gas chromatography. Two different mobile phases, diethyl ether and dichloromethane, were tested and the elution volumes of triglycerides and a large variety of aroma compounds were measured. The quality of separation between triglycerides and volatile compounds as a function of column load was studied. The method was successfully applied to the analysis of goat cheese volatiles.
Flash microwave synthesis and sintering of nanosized La0.75Sr0.25Cr0.93Ru0.07o3–δ for fuel cell application.
2009
International audience; Perovskite-oxide nanocrystals of La0.75Sr0.25Cr0.93Ru0.07O3–δ with a mean size around 10 nm were prepared by microwave flash synthesis. This reaction was performed in alcoholic solution using metallic salts, sodium ethoxide and microwave autoclave. The obtained powder was characterised after purification by energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), BET adsorption technique, photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results show that integrated perovskite-type phase and uniform particle size were obtained in the microwave treated samples. At last the synthesised powder was directly used in a sin…
Tracking in Presence of Total Occlusion and Size Variation using Mean Shift and Kalman Filter
2011
International audience; The classical mean shift algorithm for tracking in perfectly arranged conditions constitutes a good object tracking method. However, in the real environment it presents some limitations, especially under the presence of noise, objects with varying size, or occlusions. In order to deal with these problems, this paper proposes a reliable object tracking algorithm using mean shift and the Kalman filter, which was added to the traditional algorithm as a predictor when no reliable model of the object being tracked is found. Experimental work demonstrates that the proposed mean shift Kalman filter algorithm improves the tracking performance of the classical algorithms in c…
A Hirshfeld partitioning of polarizabilities of water clusters
2006
International audience; A new Hirshfeld partitioning of cluster polarizability into intrinsic polarizabilities and charge delocalization contributions is presented. For water clusters, density-functional theory calculations demonstrate that the total polarizability of a water molecule in a cluster depends upon the number and type of hydrogen bonds the molecule makes with its neighbors. The intrinsic contribution to the molecular polarizability is transferable between water molecules displaying the same H-bond scheme in clusters of different sizes, and geometries, while the charge delocalization contribution also depends on the cluster size. These results could be used to improve the existin…
The proton radius puzzle
2017
High-precision measurements of the proton radius from laser spectroscopy of muonic hydrogen demonstrated up to six standard deviations smaller values than obtained from electron-proton scattering and hydrogen spectroscopy. The status of this discrepancy, which is known as the proton radius puzzle will be discussed in this paper, complemented with the new insights obtained from spectroscopy of muonic deuterium.
Spray droplet characteristics measured using high speed imaging techniques
2016
Presented at Conference International Advances in Pesticide Application (IAPA), Barcelone, ESP (2016-01-13 - 2016-01-15).; International audience; Spray droplet characteristics are important features of an agricultural spray. The objective of this study is to measure the droplet size for different types of hydraulic spray nozzles using a developed backlighted image acquisition system and image processing technique. An in-focus droplet criterion was established to decide whether a droplet is in focus and can be measured in an accurate way. Tests included five different nozzles (Albuz ATR orange and red, TeeJet XR 110 01, XR 110 04 and Al 110 04).
Phase partitioning of aerosol particles in clouds at Kleiner Feldberg
1994
The partitioning of aerosol particles between cloud droplets and interstitial air by number and volume was determined both in terms of an integral value and as a function of size for clouds on Mt. Kleiner Feldberg (825 m asl), in the Taunus Mountains north-west of Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Differences in the integral values and the size dependent partitioning between two periods during the campaign were observed. Higher number and volume concentrations of aerosol particles in the accumulation mode were observed during Period II compared to Period I. In Period I on average 87 ± 11% (±one standard deviation) and 73 ± 7% of the accumulation mode volume and number were incorporated into cloud…
Modelling the optical properties of fresh biomass burning aerosol produced in a smoke chamber: results from the EFEU campaign
2007
A better characterisation of the optical properties of biomass burning aerosol as a function of the burning conditions is required in order to quantify their effects on climate and atmospheric chemistry. Controlled laboratory combustion experiments with different fuel types were carried out at the combustion facility of the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry (Mainz, Germany) as part of the "Impact of Vegetation Fires on the Composition and Circulation of the Atmosphere" (EFEU) project. The combustion conditions were monitored with concomitant CO2 and CO measurements. The mass scattering efficiencies of 8.9±0.2 m2 g…
