Tieslietu padomes nozīme tiesiskā valstī
2020
Tieslietu padome Latvijā pastāv jau gandrīz desmit gadus, tās mērķis ir tiesiskā valstī pārstāvēt tiesu varas viedokli un aizsargāt tiesu varas neatkarību, īstenojot valsts varas dalīšanas principu. Šī darba mērķis ir noskaidrot Tieslietu padomes kā tiesu varas pašpārvaldes institūcijas nozīmi tiesiskā valstī. Darba ietvaros autore analizē tiesu varas neatkarības lomu tiesiskā valstī un varas dalīšanas sistēmā, salīdzina tieslietu padomju modeļus Eiropā un analizē Tieslietu padomes Latvijā darbības efektivitāti, pētot, kā likumdevējs ir ņēmis vērā Tieslietu padomes viedokli par likumprojektiem laikposmā no 2017.-2019.gadam, lemjot par tiesu varas attīstību Latvijā. Rezultātā autore secina, …

Comparative Analysis of fundamental motor skills in Finnish children with and without intellectual disability : A replication study
2021
Children with intellectual disability (ID) characteristically have motor problems. The purpose of this study was to compare differences in motor skills between Finnish children with and without ID, to compare the differences between children with ID with and without DS, and to systematically replicate Rintala & Loovis (2013). Twenty-five Finnish children (10 girls, 15 boys; M age = 8.7 yr.; SD 1.2) with ID were tested using the TGMD-3. Children with ID (including six children with DS) were matched according to age and gender with typically developing children in order to identify differences in motor skills. The findings revealed significant variability in the motor skills of children with …
Converging Perspectives in the LESLLA Context
2013
There has been a surge in Low Educated Second Language and Literacy Acquisition (LESLLA) learners in adult language programs. In response to the growth of this learner population in language classes, there has been increased interest in the professionalization of the field of adult education specific to work with LESLLA learners. As researcher and practitioner awareness and understanding of the LESLLA context continues to expand, necessary and qualitative transformations of second language (L2) teaching and L2 teacher education are taking place. This article provides a glimpse into a larger ethnographic case study that explores the teaching worlds of two LESLLA teachers working in community…
Preprocessing methods for nodule detection in lung CT
2005
Abstract The use of automatic systems in the analysis of medical images has proven to be very useful to radiologists, especially in the framework of screening programs, in which radiologists make their first diagnosis on the basis of images only, most of those corresponding to healthy patients, and have to distinguish pathological findings from non-pathological ones at an early stage. In particular, we are developing preprocessing methods to be applied for pulmonary nodule Computer Aided Detection in low-dose lung Multi Slice CT (computed tomography) images.

2020
Tiešsaistes ziņu virsrakstiem jārosina auditorijas vēlme izlasīt rakstu. Lasītāja uzmanību var piesaistīt ar mākslinieciskās izteiksmes līdzekļiem. Šo līdzekļu un virsrakstu saikne pētīta maz, tāpēc darbā aplūkoti mākslinieciskās izteiksmes līdzekļi lsm.lv virsrakstu angļu un latviešu valodas versijās. Pētījuma mērķis bija noteikt, kuri mākslinieciskās izteiksmes līdzekļi atrodami tiešsaistes sabiedriskā medija lsm.lv ziņu virsrakstos angliski un latviski, kā arī noskaidrot to tematisko dalījumu. Pētījumā izmantota sistemātiska literatūras izpēte, kontentanalīze un biežuma analīze. Noskaidrots, ka lsm.lv virsrakstu angļu valodas versijā mākslinieciskās izteiksmes līdzekļi izmantoti daudz bi…
Religious Revival Movements and the Development of the Twentieth-century Welfare-state in Finland
2019
The Lutheran state church had a monopoly status in Finland for centuries. But its dominance slowly weakened as pietistic revival movements spread in Finland in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. These movements had religious purposes, but they were also forerunners of profound social and economic changes in Finland in the twentieth century. In challenging the role of the state church, they challenged national unity, spread Western cultural values, emphasized individual rights, and improved the status of women in society. Men of political eminence, such as Anders Chydenius, introduced these influences on Finnish economic life. Overall, the revival movements helped to pave the way for t…
Maantieteelliset piirteet ja iäkkäiden henkilöiden liikkuminen ulkona (GEOage)
2021
This dataset is part of the “Geographic characteristics, outdoor mobility and physical activity of older people” (GEOage) project, in which freely available geographic information characterizing the environment is linked to participant data of the “Life-space mobility in old age” (LISPE) cohort comprising 75–90-years-old community-dwelling people living in Jyväskylä and Muurame in Central Finland (n=848). The GEOage dataset contains variables of environmental characteristics of participants' environment within 500 or 1000 m from home. The dataset comprises variables related to characteristics of nature (hilliness, nature and green areas, waterside areas) and built environment (land use, nei…
