Electrochemistry nanometric patterning of MOF particles: Anisotropic metal electrodeposition in Cu/MOF

Abstract Electrodeposition of copper from Cu/MOF immersed into acetate buffer produces a quasi-periodic series of 10–20 nm sized laminae sandwiched within the pristine MOF lattice as monitored by voltammetry of microparticles/atomic force microscopy. This anisotropic patterning can be qualitatively described in terms of a highly orientation-dependent diffusion of electrons and charge-balancing electrolyte counterions in the MOF network.

Atomic structure solution of the complex quasicrystal approximant Al77Rh15Ru8 from electron diffraction data

The crystal structure of the novel Al77Rh15Ru8phase (which is an approximant of decagonal quasicrystals) was determined using modern direct methods (MDM) applied to automated electron diffraction tomography (ADT) data. The Al77Rh15Ru8E-phase is orthorhombic [Pbma,a= 23.40 (5),b= 16.20 (4) andc= 20.00 (5) Å] and has one of the most complicated intermetallic structures solved solely by electron diffraction methods. Its structural model consists of 78 unique atomic positions in the unit cell (19 Rh/Ru and 59 Al). Effect of Ti(IV) loading on CO oxidation activity of gold on TiO2 doped amorphous silica

Abstract Amorphous SiO 2 , doped with various amount of TiO 2 , was used as support for gold nanoparticles. Gold was deposited through the controlled sol formation technique. The effect of the TiO 2 loading on the structural and surface properties was investigated by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The catalytic behavior was tested in the oxidation of CO. A significant enhancement in the activity was observed for the gold supported on mixed oxide with low TiO 2 loading. On the basis of characterization data, the positive effect is assigned to the electronic modification of the Ti(IV) of the newly formed Ti O Si bonds.

"Sweet Chemistry": a Green Way for Obtaining Selenium Nanoparticles Active against Cancer Cells

We present an environment friendly synthesis of selenium nanoparticles and the study of their cytotoxic activity against uterine sarcoma cancer and fibroblasts cells. Supramolecular PEG-co-oligo(p-benzamide)s prepared on a peptide synthesizer.

An automated synthesis protocol has been developed for the preparation of oligo(p-benzamide)s on solid support using a commercial peptide synthesizer employing a variation of standard Fmoc chemistry. Bis(trichloromethyl carbonate) in NMP was used to activate the aromatic carboxylic acids for acylation of secondary aromatic amines on solid support. N-Protected hepta(p-benzamide) was automatically prepared on solid support and manually converted to a solid supported block co-oligomer by attaching a poly(ethylene glycol) chain. The basic symptoms of Alzheimer's dementia, i.e., a loss in cognitive function, are due to impaired nicotinic cholinergic neurotransmission. To compensate for this impairment by drug treatment, blockers of the acetylcholine-degrading enzyme acetylcholinesterase are applied, even though this approach obviously is prone to many side-effects, including those of muscarinic nature. The method of chromatin photo-stabilization by the action of visible light in the presence of ethidium bromide was used for investigation of higher-level chromatin structures in isolated nuclei. As a model we used rat hepatocyte nuclei isolated in buffers which stabilized or destabilized nuclear matrix. Several higher-level chromatin structures were visualized: 100 nm globules—chromomeres, chains of chromomeres—chromonemata, aggregates of chromomeres—blocks of condensed chromatin. All these structures were completely destroyed by 2 M NaCl extraction independent of the matrix state, and DNA was extruded from the residual nuclei (nuclear matrices) into a halo.
