Nonlinear associations between breached obligations and employee well-being

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to analyze the nonlinear association between proportions of breached obligations within the psychological contract (PC) and three dimensions of employee well-being, and the mediating role of contract violation in these relationships. With this study the authors gain a more detailed understanding of PC evaluations and their consequences for well-being. Recent national healthcare reforms have resulted in many changes to healthcare organizations. When social realities are enacted in social interactions, changes also occur in communication through discourses. In public hospitals, middle management groups form one important platform for change talk. This study aimed to identify and understand how change talk emerges in management group meetings. When outstanding mathematicians cannot figure out that 14 – 2 = 12

International audience; We investigated what happens when non-mathematical knowledge interferes with mathematical knowledge in arithmetic word problem solving. Adults and expert mathematicians had to evaluate the solutions of basic additive problems. The non-mathematical knowledge evoked by the problems hindered both populations’ success rates and response times when incongruent with the solving algorithm.
Oxygen isotopic exchange: A useful tool for characterizing oxygen conducting oxides

International audience; The 18O/16O isotope exchange depth profile technique (IEDP) followed by SIMS characterizations was applied to dense membranes of pure ionic conductors and mixed ionic/electronic conducting materials. It is a very useful tool since we obtain in both cases data concerning the oxygen diffusion in the bulk and the oxygen exchange at the surface of the materials. Comparisons were done, including results concerning the role of the surface with regards to the oxygen reduction reaction. Detailed experimental and analytical processes are given.

Ca:LaNbO4 (LNC) constitutes the last real breakthrough in high-temperature proton conductors, with better chemical and mechanical stability with respect to cerate and zirconate perovskites. However, the low amount of bivalent dopant that can be hosted in the LaNbO4 matrix poses a limit to the proton concentration in the electrolyte. Using synchrotron X-ray microspectroscopy, we investigated the compatibility of annealed LNC/LSM electrolyte/cathode bilayers for proton-conducting SOFCs. This work is focused on the arc faults phenomenon in DC photovoltaic (PV) systems. The paper gives an overview of arc detection methods proposed in literature and presents a preliminary experimental characterization of the arcing current, focusing the attention on series arcs, whose detection is particularly challenging. Experimental tests are carried out, both in laboratory and on field, in order to investigate some relevant characteristics in the arcing current, which can be feasible for the arc detection purpose. A Dynamic Model of Open Source Vs Proprietary R&D

Abstract We propose a dynamic model in which firms compete to produce sequential and cumulative innovations, and in which the more firms do research in one sector the more likely it is that one of them innovates. Firms choose research effort and whether to patent innovations or to use an Open Source license like the General Public License. We show that ( i ) patents generate a larger stationary reward but foreclose research within a sector, and that ( ii ) Open Source generates a smaller stationary reward but allows everyone to use the technology, and therefore, by attracting firms to the sector, it induces a faster pace of innovation. Walsh function analysis of 2-D generalized continuous systems

The importance of the generalized or singular 2D continuous systems are demonstrated by showing their use in the solution of partial differential equations in two variables. A technique is presented for solving these systems in terms of Walsh functions. The method replaces the solution of a two-variable partial differential equation with the solution of a linear algebraic generalized 2D Sylvester equation. An efficient technique for the recursive solution of the latter equation is offered. All the results apply also in the usual Roesser 2D state-space case. >

Initiatives that attribute expert status to ‘ordinary citizens’ proliferate in a range of societal realms and are generally celebrated for ‘democratising expertise’.
