Mechanics and self-organization in tissue development

2021

Self-organization is an all-important feature of living systems that provides the means to achieve specialization and functionality at distinct spatio-temporal scales. Herein, we review this concept by addressing the packing organization of cells, the sorting/compartmentalization phenomenon of cell populations, and the propagation of organizing cues at the tissue level through traveling waves. We elaborate on how different theoretical models and tools from Topology, Physics, and Dynamical Systems have improved the understanding of self-organization by shedding light on the role played by mechanics as a driver of morphogenesis. Altogether, by providing a historical perspective, we show how i…

The challenge of a place-based and network approach to the development in the territories

2016

This paper investigates the role of research networks inside local development processes to increase the competitiveness of underdeveloped territories. This paper, within the scope of local development theory, aims to describe the state of the art on the regional research systems resulting largely from programs co-financed between 2000 and 2013, with which the various regions are preparing to engage in programming for the period 2014-2020. The extent of consistency between the objectives of sectorial specialization set by policies previously or currently implemented and those in the planning phase (S3) is assessed, as is their connection with existing territorial specializations at a region…

LA COMPLESSA STRADA VERSO L’INNOVAZIONE NEI TERRITORI

2015

This paper provides a framework on regional research systems, through which, different regions are preparing to engage in program- ming period 2014 – 2020. It will also cover the regions’ investments in the co-financed programs between 2000 and 2013. Particular attention is dedicated to those projects that, in the specific objectives or specific actions have referred to high-tech districts, techno- logical platforms, clusters, innovation centers, science or technology parks and networks. It then carries out two verifications: firstly, of the degree of consistency between policies and implementation and ongoing design (S3) and secondly of their connection with the existing territorial specia…

2020

The basis of this contribution are a) the European Commission's regional innovation strategies for smart specialization (RIS3), b) the regional policies to combat the risk of decline and c) the governance model of Transition Management. Today the challenge consists in the validation of RIS3 even in the conditions of uncertainty exacerbated, for example, by the recent experience of COVID 19 as a global pandemic, trigger of the planetary economic and social decline. The guidance of the territorial transformations induced by RIS3 can be achieved with GIS technologies which, in turn, can constitute a single platform of the competent regional administration for urban and landscape planning. This…

Following the implementation of the Smart Specialization Strategy and the Quintuple Helix Model this paper underlines the importance of connecting the innovation process with rural territori…

2017

This work has three objectives. The first is the creation of an extensive mapping of technological districts, innovation poles, excellence research centres, laboratories and science parks in the Italian regions. The second is about monitoring, employing data from Open Cohesion, the state of the art of regional and national programs that aim at building local research networks and innovation networks. The third objective is to compare the sectoral priorities chosen by Regions according to their Smart Specialization Strategy (S3) with the existing sectors in their research networks. Finally, the study explores to what extent the presence of the industrial districts in the regions has facilita…

Environmental journalism as area of specialization in university classrooms

2014

Report environment issues has bec…

R&D, Competition and Growth with Human Capital Accumulation Revisited

2012

In this paper, we have presented a generalization of Bucci's (2003) model in which have disentangled the monopolistic mark-up in the intermediate goods sector, the intermediate goods share in the final output and the returns to specialization in order to have a better measurement of competition. Indeed, unlike Bucci (2003), in our model, the measure of competition is completely independent of the intermediate goods share in the final output and the returns to specialization. Our main finding is that, unlike Bucci (2003), we show that the competition does not play any role in growth. This result is explained by the complementarity of innovation and human capital assumed in the research produ…

Analysis of Chromatin Structure and Composition

1989

Introduction Biochemistry, like many other sciences, is currently undergoing increasing specialization which is thought to be unavoidable because of the rapid progress within this field. Obviously education in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is also affected. Consequently, the student may lose the ability to integrate his knowledge, which should be a requirement during the training of a scientist. The solution to this problem is quite easy in the case of theoretical courses because, here, the lecturer may include several 'integrative lessons' which give a global view of previously explained facts and place them within the general context of the course. However, in practical courses it is…

2021

This paper aims to synthesize research on the Management of Sports Organizations (MOS) in France. Three parts structure this voluntarily simplifying contribution, very personal and collective at the same time through the direct and indirect contributions of many researchers. First of all, two historical parts between the 1960s and the 2000s provide a first disciplinary and then thematic perspective in order to make a French-speaking retrospective of the dynamics of scientific production. A last part in the form of a conclusion and an opening seeks to characterize the recent dynamics of MOS research (specialization, interaction, diversification) according to disciplines and/or objects of stu…
