Improved assessment of T-cell receptor (TCR) VB repertoire in clinical specimens: combination of TCR-CDR3 spectratyping with flow cytometry-based TCR…

2002

ABSTRACTAntigen-specific T-cell responses may be described by combining three categories: (i) the specificity and effector functions of a T-cell population, (ii) the quantity of T-cell responses (i.e., the number of responding T cells within the CD4/CD8 population), and (iii) the “quality” of T cells (defined by the T-cell receptor [TCR] structure). Several methods to measure T-cell responses are now available including evaluation of T-cell precursors using limiting dilution, the enzyme-linked immunospot assay, ex vivo TCR variable (v)-segment analysis determined by flow cytometry, and TCR-CDR3 length analysis (spectratyping), as well as identification of peptide-specific T cells using majo…

Characterization of MEMS accelerometer self-noise by means of PSD and Allan Variance analysis

2017

In this paper, we have studied the sources of error of a low-cost 3-axis MEMS accelerometer by means of Power Spectral Density and Allan Variance techniques. These techniques were applied to the signals acquired from ten identical devices to characterize the variability of the sensor produced by the same manufacturer. Our analysis showed as identically produced accelerometer have somehow variable behavior in particular at low frequency. It is therefore of paramount importance before their use in Inertial Navigation or Earthquakes Monitoring System, a complete characterization of each single sensors.

Identification of microplastics using 4‐dimethylamino‐4′‐nitrostilbene solvatochromic fluorescence

2021

In this work, we introduce the use of 4-dimethylamino-4'-nitrostilbene (DANS) fluorescent dye for applications in the detection and analysis of microplastics, an impendent source of pollution made of synthetic organic polymers with a size varying from less than 5 mm to nanometer scale. The use of this dye revealed itself as a versatile, fast and sensitive tool for readily discriminate microplastics in water environment. The experimental evidences herein presented demonstrate that DANS efficiently absorbs into a variety of polymers constituting microplastics, and its solvatochromic properties lead to a positive shift of the fluorescence emission spectrum according to the polarity of the poly…

The Gaia-ESO Survey: Extracting diffuse interstellar bands from cool star spectra DIB-based interstellar medium line-of-sight structures at the kpc s…

2014

We study how diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs) measured toward distance-distributed target stars can be used to locate dense interstellar (IS) clouds in the Galaxy and probe a line-of-sight (LOS) kinematical structure, a potential useful tool when gaseous absorption lines are saturated or not available in the spectral range. Cool target stars are numerous enough for this purpose. We have devised automated DIB fitting methods appropriate to cool star spectra and multiple IS components. The data is fitted with a combination of a synthetic stellar spectrum, a synthetic telluric transmission, and empirical DIB profiles. In parallel, stellar distances and extinctions are estimated self-consisten…

Benchmarking Saliency Detection Methods on Multimodal Image Data

2018

Saliency detecmage processing. Most of the work is adapted to the specific application and available dataset. The present work is about a comparative analysis of saliency detection for multimodal images dataset. There were many researches on the detection of saliency on several types of images, such as multispectral, natural, 3D and so on. This work presents a first focused study on saliency detection on multimodal images. Our database was extracted from acquisitions on cultural heritage wall paintings that contain four modalities UV, IR, Visible and fluorescence. In this paper, the analysis has been performed for many methods on saliency detection. We evaluate the performance of each metho…

An Embedded Solution for Multispectral Palmprint Recognition

2018

Palmprint based identification has attracted much attention in the past decades. In some real-life applications, portable personal authentication systems with high accuracy and speed efficiency are required. This paper presents an embedded palmprint recognition solution based on the multispectral image modality. We first develop an effective recognition algorithm by using partial least squares regression, then a FPGA prototype is implemented and optimized through high-level synthesis technique. The evaluation experiments demonstrate that the proposed system can achieve a higher recognition rate at a lower running cost comparing to the reference implementations.

Dynamic Structural Changes and Thermodynamics in Phase Separation Processes of an Intrinsically Disordered–Ordered Protein Model

2021

Elastin-like proteins (ELPs) are biologically important proteins and models for intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) and dynamic structural transitions associated with coacervates and liquid-liquid phase transitions. However, the conformational status below and above coacervation temperature and its role in the phase separation process is still elusive. Employing matrix least-squares global Boltzmann-fitting of the circular dichroism spectra of the ELPs (VPGVG) 20 , (VPGVG) 40 and (VPGVG) 60 , we found that coacervation occurs sharply when a certain number of repeat units has acquired β-turn conformation (in our sequence setting a threshold of ~20 repeat units). The differential scatter…

Protonation effects on the UV/Vis absorption spectra of imatinib: A theoretical and experimental study

2014

An experimental and theoretical investigation of protonation effects on the UV/Vis absorption spectra of imatinib showed systematic changes of absorption depending on the pH, and a new absorption band appeared below pH 2. These changes in the UV/Vis absorption spectra were interpreted using quantum chemical calculations. The geometry of various imatinib cations in the gas phase and in ethanol solution was optimized with the DFT/B3LYP method. The resultant geometries were compared to the experimentally determined crystal structures of imatinib salts. The semi-empirical ZINDO-CI method was employed to calculate the absorption lines and electronic transitions. Our study suggests that the forma…

Antibiotic as Ligand. Coordinating Behavior of the Cephalexin Towards Zn(II) and Cd(II) Ions

1987

The complex formation equilibria of Zn(II) and Cd(II) with cephalexin have been studied through potentiometric titrations. Experimental data were analyzed using the least squares computer program SUPERQUAD. The stability constants were 1g beta ZnCEX+ = 2.40, 1g beta Zn(CEX)(OH) = -4.54, 1g beta CdCEX+ = 2.18, and 1g beta Cd(CEX)(OH) = -5.18 (I = 0.1 M NaNO3), CEX complexes of formulae Zn(CEX)2(3)H2O and Cd(CEX)(OH)H2O have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, conductivity measurements, and electronic and NMR spectra. The thermal behavior of the synthesized compounds were studied by TGA and DTA. We conclude that the metal ion interacts with the amido group of…
