Assessment of Functional Connectome in End-Stage Organ Disease Patients After Life-Threatening Surgery
2020
Purpose The purpose of this study was to assess the organization of intrinsic functional brain networks (functional connectome) in neurologically asymptomatic patients with end-stage organ disease who had undergone major surgery for life-threating conditions and compare it to a control group. Materials and Methods Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rest-fMRI) was performed in 10 adult, post-operative patients with end-stage organ disease. The patients (7 men, 3 women, mean age 57.9 ± 7.4 years) had undergone: n=4 coronary artery bypass graft for heart failure, n=2 orthotopic liver transplantation for non-alcoholic cirrhotic liver failure, n=3 mitral valve repair for heart …
Towards controlling PCDD/F production in a multi-fuel fired BFB boiler using two sulfur addition strategies. Part II: Thermodynamic analysis
2014
Abstract A staged equilibrium process model was developed for a bubbling fluidized bed boiler firing SRF, bark and sludge. The model was used to study the influence of sulfur addition strategies (S-pellet additive and peat co-firing) on the behavior of copper, bromine, and alkalis. Aerosol samples collected from the backpass of the boiler were used to validate the chemistry predicted by the model. The model revealed that Cu existed as Cu 2 S (s3) in the reducing zone, and CuCl (g) (for all test cases) and CuO (s) (during peat co-firing) in the oxidation zones. CuBr 3(g) was also present after the introduction of tertiary air. However the model failed to predict the formation of CuSO 4 , an …
Hidradenitis Suppurativa in a Large Cohort of Italian Patients: Evaluation of the Burden of Disease
2022
Background: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, inflammatory, recurrent, debilitating skin disease of the hair follicle that usually occurs after puberty with painful, deep-seated, inflamed nodules and sinus tracts in the apocrine gland-bearing areas of the body, most commonly the axillae and inguinal and anogenital regions, with a relevant impact on patients’ quality of life (QoL). Objective: To evaluate how the burden of HS disease impacts on patient well-being and working activities in a large Italian population over a period of 9 months. Methods: A multicenter, prosp…
Correlation of serum and salivary CA15-3 levels in patients with breast cancer
2008
Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between serum and saliva levels of cancer antigen (CA) 15-3 and to compare them between women with and without breast cancer. Study design: A case-control study was carried out on 61 women aged 28-69 years, including women with and without breast cancer (26 as part of the case study and 35 as part of the control group) conducted at the Emam Khomeini Hospital, Tehran University of Medical Sciences. CA15-3 levels were assayed in serum and unstimulated whole saliva by EIA. Unpaired t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson correlation were used as statistical analysis. Results: The salivary and serological levels of CA15-3 in the cancer …

The maturity stage of the grass affects milk fatty acids of cows grazing a mountain grassland
2010
International audience; We aimed to quantify the effect of the growth stage of a mountain grassland pasture on the fatty acid (FA) composition of grass and milk. In June (growth) and October (regrowth), a mountain pasture was continuously grazed by six dairy cows in a strip grazing system. During June, the grass C18:3n-3 content decreased while C16:0, c9-C18:1 and C18:2n-6 content increased. During October, the grass FA composition was similar to that observed in the first part of June. During June, milk saturated FA (SFA) content increased while the sum of the trans FA and polyunsaturated FA (PUFA) content decreased, mainly due to the decrease in C18:3n-3 and c9t11-CLA percentages. At the …
Concrete arch bridges built by lattice cantilevers
2013
In this paper a study about concrete arch bridges built by lattice cantilevers is presented. Lattice cantilevers are partial structures composed of deck, arch, piers and provisional steel diagonals, organized as reticular cantilever girders, in order to build arch bridges without the use of centrings, supports or temporary towers. Characteristics of this construction methodology with its variants are explained together with their implications in the erection sequence. Partial elastic scheme method is implemented in order to find initial forces of temporary cables and a forward analysis is carried out to follow the actual sequence of construction, by extending a procedure already applied to …

Experimental conditions for respiration and growth studies of F0 and F1 larval and juvenile European seabass Dicentrarchus labrax
2022
Water parameters in the 2 years before spawning of F0 (08.02.2016-06.03.2018) and during larval and juvenile phase of F1: Larval period until 17.05.2018 (48 dph, 900 dd) and 01.06.2018 (63 dph, ~900 dd) for warm and cold life condition respectively, for the juveniles until 28.09.2018 (180 dph, ~4000 dd) and 12.02.2019 (319 dph, ~5100 dd) for warm and cold conditioned fish respectively. Means ± s.e. over all replicate tanks per condition. Temperature (Temp.), pH (free scale), salinity, oxygen and total alkalinity (TA) were measured weekly in F1 and monthly in F0; sea water (SW) measurements were conducted in 2017 and 2018. Water parameters during larval and early juvenile phase of F0: Larval…
MYCN gain and MYCN amplification in a stage 4S neuroblastoma.
2003
Abstract Stage 4S neuroblastoma is a disease associated with spontaneous regression and good survival. We present a patient whose evolution has shown the variety and complexity of this disease in infants. Biologic factors, such as ploidy, MYCN copy number, loss of 1p36, and other chromosomal gains and losses were determined. A complex pattern of genetic abnormalities, such as near-diploidy, MYCN gain (2–4 copies per haploid genome) and imbalance/deletion of 1p36 was seen in the diagnostic sample. An extensive disseminated disease after a latent period of 26 months was associated with a special genetic evolution, such as tetraploidy, MYCN amplification (2:100–500 copies), 1p36 deletion, and …
