Cultured Ito cells of rat liver express the alpha 2-macroglobulin gene.
1987
Ito cells were isolated from rat liver and kept in culture for up to 13 days. The capability of the Ito cells to synthesize a2-macroglobulin was analyzed at different times after isolation and by pulse-chase experiments. Newly synthesized a2-macroglobulin was determined by immunoprecipitation followed by sodium dodecyl sulfate/ polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and fluorography. a2-Macroglobulin synthesis was hardly detectable in Ito cells and their media 3 days after plating. However, 5 - 11 days after the isolation of the cells, increasing amounts of a2-macroglobulin were synthesized. The results of pulse-chase experiments performed on day 7 showed that radioactively labeled a2-macroglob…
Micellar liquid chromatography in doping control.
2010
The issue of doping control in sport involves the development of reliable analytical procedures and efficient strategies to process a large number of samples in a short period of time. Reversed-phase LC techniques with aqueous–organic mobile phases and MS or diode-array detection yield satisfactory results for the identification of prohibited substances in sport. However, time-consuming sample pretreatment steps are required, which reduces sample throughput. Micellar LC (MLC) that uses hybrid mobile phases of surfactant above its critical micellar concentration and organic solvent has been revealed as an interesting alternative. The surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate solubilizes the protein…
Preparation of electrophoretic variants of Corticosteroid-binding Globulin (CBG) using liquid liquid partition chromatography
1988
Abstract Human corticosteroid-binding globulin (CBG) was purified to homogeneity by application of three different chromatographic methods. After fractionation of pregnancy serum with ammonium sulfate the 80%-pellet was used for affinity chromatography based on tresyl activated Sepharose (Pharmacia, Uppsala, Sweden). The affinity eluate was injected into a Mono Q anion exchange column (Pharmacia). Fractions containing CBG were finally purified by liquid liquid chromatography on LiParGel 750 (Merck, Darmstadt, F.R.G.) 1,2 . The purified protein was characterized by IEF and PAGE. This paper describes a method for the chromatographic separation of the two variants of CBG without a loss of bind…

Contribution of the gas-phase reaction between hydroxyl radical and sulfur dioxide to the sulfate aerosol over West Pacific
2021
Sulfate is among the major components of atmospheric aerosols or fine particulate matters. Aerosols loaded with sulfate result in low air quality, damage to ecosystems, and influences on climate change. Sulfate aerosols could originate from that directly emitted to the atmosphere and that produced by atmospheric physicochemical processes. The latter is generated from sulfur dioxide (SO2) via oxidation either in the gas phase reactions or in the aqueous phase. Several mechanisms of SO2 oxidation have been proposed, but the differentiation of the various mechanisms and identification of the sources remain challenging. To meet this need, a new method to estimate the contribution of the gas-pha…
The dynamics of tropospheric aerosols
1966
After a brief review of the present knowledge of the Stratospheric sulfate layer, several possible mechanisms of formation are discussed in detail. A direct transport of low tropospheric particles into the stratosphere by convective clouds penetrating the tropopause is not very likely because these penetrations are not high enough and because of the chemical composition of the stratospheric particles. The Terminal Complement Complex (TCC) in the Plasma of Patients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. Relationship with Albumin Excretion Rate
1991
Increased TCC levels were found to be present in the plasma of patients with type 1 diabetes associated with the presence of anti-heparan sulfate antibodies and increased urinary excretion of albumin. The authors suggest a role of terminal complement activation in the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy.
Sulfate-Templated 2D Anion-Layered Supramolecular Self-Assemblies
2019
Summary Using solution and solid-state analyses, we demonstrate that the tripodal N-methylated(1,3,5-benzene-tricarboxamide)-tris(phenylurea) BTA ligands, possessing urea functionalities in the meta position, are able to form extended self-assembly 2D networks via hydrogen bonding templated by sulfate (SO42–). The divergence of the urea binding sites confers a propeller-like conformation to the ligands and is key to formation of the self-assemblies. Studies in solution and in the solid state as well as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) on the self-assembly properties of the ligands showed that the convergence also leads to the formation of hierarchical structures, including porous films an…
The pea sulfate transporter, PsSULTR4, contributes to seed yield and quality
2023
To investigate the role of vacuolar sulfate in seed yield and quality, we have targeted the single pea SULTR4 gene (PsSULTR4), which encodes a transporter homologous to Arabidopsis SULTR4;1 and 4;2 that allow sulfate efflux from the vacuole to the cytosol. By simulating the 3D structure of PsSULTR4, we observed that it is similar to that of SULTR4;1 in Arabidopsis. Furthermore, a phylogenetic analysis revealed a high level of conservation of SULTR4 protein motifs across land species. A fluorescent protein fusion experiment confirmed that PsSULTR4 localizes to the vacuolar membrane.Five sultr4 mutants were identified by TILLING (Targeting Induced Local Lesions IN Genomes), two of which showe…
VEGF receptor signaling links inflammation and tumorigenesis in colitis-associated cancer.
2010
Inflammation drives expression of VEGFR2, which is expressed on and drives growth of tumor cells in colitis-associated cancer.
