Programmed Formation of HCN Oligomers through Organosulfur Catalysis
2021
An efficient, inexpensive, and reliable synthesis of diaminomaleonitrile (DAMN, 1) is described starting from readily available acetone cyanohydrin as the source of hydrogen cyanide (HCN). Diaminomaleonitrile (DAMN) is known to be an important intermediate in heterocyclic and medicinal chemistry as well as being a possible precursor for the origin of life's hypothesis within prebiotic chemistry. The mechanism of its formation through organosulfur catalysis has been investigated by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) using two newly synthesized cationic "marker" molecules as a tool that allows for sensitive detection. As a result, the proposed mechanism of a thiocyanate-mediat…
Estimation of alcohol consumption during >Fallas> festivity in the wastewater of Valencia city (Spain) using ethyl sulfate as a biomarker
2016
Alcohol consumption has been increasing in the last years and it has become a sociological problem due its derived health and safety problems. Ethyl sulfate is a secondary metabolite of the alcohol degradation that is excreted through the urine (0.010-0.016%) after alcohol ingestion and it is quite stable in water. In this study, a new methodology to determine ethyl sulfate by ion-pair liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) was developed. Different ion-pairs and additives were tested directly in the sample extracts or in the mobile phase. The best ion-pair was set up adding 0.5M of tributylamine and 0.1% of formic acid to the sample. The limit of quantification was 0.3μgL…
High resolution molecular spectroscopy of the sulfur-containing XY2 type molecules.
2010
In this thesis, we analyzed the high resolution absorption molecular spectra of H2S, D2S, HDS and SO2 registered for the first time or with better experimental characteristics as compared with those registered before. For the first time in the practice of rotation-vibrational spectroscopy in the frame of the devel- oped method of "global ftting" the analysis of 22 bands (as a whole more than 9700 rotation- vibrational lines) of D2S molecule is realized. This method of "global fitting" is developed with regard to molecules of Cs symmetry; on this basis a simultaneous analysis of all the known up to the present rotation-vibrational spectra of HDS molecule is realized. The SPGF method is appli…
Sulfuric acid speleogenesis (SAS) close to the water table: Examples from southern France, Austria, and Sicily
2016
Caves formed by rising sulfuric waters have been described from all over the world in a wide variety of climate settings, from arid regions to mid-latitude and alpine areas. H2S is generally formed at depth by reduction of sulfates in the presence of hydrocarbons and is transported in solution through the deep aquifers. In tectonically disturbed areas major fractures eventually allow these H2S-bearing fluids to rise to the surface where oxidation processes can become active producing sulfuric acid. This extremely strong acid reacts with the carbonate bedrock creating caves, some of which are among the largest and most spectacular in the world. Production of sulfuric acid mostly occurs at or…
Comparison of magnetic resonance imaging of inhaled SF6 with respiratory gas analysis
2008
Magnetic resonance imaging of inhaled fluorinated inert gases ((19)F-MRI) such as sulfur hexafluoride (SF(6)) allows for analysis of ventilated air spaces. In this study, the possibility of using this technique to image lung function was assessed. For this, (19)F-MRI of inhaled SF(6) was compared with respiratory gas analysis, which is a global but reliable measure of alveolar gas fraction. Five anesthetized pigs underwent multiple-breath wash-in procedures with a gas mixture of 70% SF(6) and 30% oxygen. Two-dimensional (19)F-MRI and end-expiratory gas fraction analysis were performed after 4 to 24 inhaled breaths. Signal intensity of (19)F-MRI and end-expiratory SF(6) fraction were evaluat…
Hydroxylation and conjugation of phenol by the frog Rana temporaria.
1985
1. Frogs injected with phenol excrete 67–95% of dose in 15h; 32–87% of dose are metabolites.2. Metabolites identified were phenyl sulphate (15–44% of dose), phenyl glucuronide (10–25% of dose), catechol sulphate (up to 7% of dose), quinol sulphate (1–25% of dose), resorcinol and catechol (traces).
Composés métallocèniques chalcogènés. Action des dihydrures de zirconocène et de hafnocène sur le soufre, le sélénium et le tellure
1989
Resume Dimeric zirconocene and hafnocene dihydrides [(η 5 -RC 5 H 4 ) 2 M(H)(μ-H)] 2 (M = Zr, Hf) react with grey selenium or tellurium to afford the known four-membered bimetallacyclic compounds [(η 5 -RC 5 H 4 ) 2 M(μ-E)] 2 (E = Se, Te) as the sole organometallic products. In the case of sulfur the first step of the reaction is shown to involve the insertion of a chalcogen atom into the metal-hydrogen bonds to give the bis-hydrogenosulfide (η 5 -t-BuC 5 H 4 ) 2 M(SH) 2 (M = Zr, Hf), which reacts either with the starting dihydride to give [(η 5 -t-BuC 5 H 4 ) 2 M(μ-S)] 2 or with the unchanged sulfur to afford the metallacyclohexasulfane (η 5 -t-BuC 5 H 4 ) 2 MS 5 and hydrogen sulfide. Thes…
Effects of Inter-cropping and a Herbicide on Management of Striga hermonthica on Sorghum
2017
Aims: The present work was undertaken to determine the effects of the herbicide chlorsulfuron and intercropping sorghum (cv.Wad-Ahmed) with cowpea (T100K-901-6 cv.) on S. hermonthica incidence and sorghum growth. Study Design: Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replicates. Place and Duration of Study: A series of laboratory and greenhouse experiments was undertaken at the College of Agricultural Studies, Sudan University of Science and Technology (SUST) at Shambat, during the season 2013/2014. Methodology: Striga free or infested soil was placed in plastic pots (9 cm i .d) with perforations at the bottoms. Pots filled with Striga free soil (0 mg) were included as control for …

Diode laser spectroscopy of the nu(8) band of the SF(5)Cl molecule.
2003
Abstract Diode laser spectra of SF 5 Cl have been recorded in the ν 8 band region at a temperature of ca. 240 K, a pressure of 0.25 mbar and an instrumental bandwidth of ca. 0.001 cm −1 . Four regions have been studied: a first one in the P -branch (906.849–907.687 cm −1 ), a second one in the Q -branch (910.407–910.944 cm −1 ), and two other ones in the R -branch (913.957–914.556 and 917.853–918.705 cm −1 ). The whole ν 1 / ν 8 dyad of SF 5 35 Cl has been previously recorded in the group of Professor H. Burger in Wuppertal, thanks to a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer [J. Mol. Spectrosc. 208 (2001) 169]. These data have thus been combined with our diode laser ones in the aim of refi…
