Momentary emotion identification in female adolescents with and without anorexia nervosa.

2017

Individuals with anorexia nervosa (AN) often report difficulties in identifying emotions, which have been mostly studied as an alexithymia trait. In a controlled two-day ecological momentary assessment, we studied the influence of time of day and aversive tension on self-reported momentary emotion identification. Analysis on an aggregated level revealed a significant lower mean emotion identification in the AN group. In a mixed model analysis, the AN group showed lower emotion identification than the control group (HC). Both a general and a group effect of time of day were found, indicating that emotion identification improved during the day in HC, whereas a negligible decrease of the emoti…

Dysfunctional beliefs about health and illness: a family study

2019

Competence and adherence in an acceptance and values-based intervention: Effects on treatment outcome and early changes in depression

2020

Abstract Background The present study investigated competence and adherence in an acceptance- and values-based intervention and their impact on the outcomes of treatment and early changes in depression. Method A total of 74 sessions delivered by novice therapists (n = 37) were rated for overall competence and adherence to treatment manual, as well as for process-specific components of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) using the ACT Adherence Scale (Plumb & Vilardaga, 2010). The relationships between (a) competence and adherence, (b) treatment outcome, and (c) early therapeutic changes among patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder (n = 37) were explored. Results Higher compet…

A psychological flexibility -based intervention for burnout : A randomized controlled trial

2020

A novel eight-week program based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) principles was created to alleviate burnout-related ill-being and to enhance well-being. This randomized controlled trial investigated the effectiveness of the program and explored whether changes in psychological flexibility mediated the results of the intervention. The program consisted of structured weekly face-to-face group meetings and daily practices provided via a website. Employees from varying professional backgrounds with burnout (mean age = 47 years, 79% female), who all received usual treatment, 1 were randomized into control (TAU, n = 80, receiving no other support) and ACT + TAU intervention (n = 88, r…

Trajectories of stress biomarkers and anxious-depressive symptoms from pregnancy to postpartum period in women with a trauma history

2019

Background: Cross-sectional studies have found that a trauma history can be associated with anxious-depressive symptomatology and physiological stress dysregulation in pregnant women. Methods: This prospective study examines the trajectories of both anxiety and depressive symptoms and salivary cortisol and alpha-amylase biomarkers from women with (n = 42) and without (n = 59) a trauma history at (i) 38th week of gestation (T1), (ii) 48 hours after birth (T2), and (iii) three months after birth (T3). Results: The quantile regression model showed that trauma history was associated with higher cortisol levels at T1 and this difference was sustained along T2 and T3. Conversely, there were no si…

EHealth Interventions for People Suffering From Sleep Problems and Depressive Symptoms

2017

This chapter highlights qualitative findings from two field studies that focused on supporting people with sleeplessness (Study 1) and moderate depression (Study II). Both the studies were designed to examine the prospective impact of reminders and rehearsal on the effectiveness of web- based eHealth interventions. The interventions were incorporated with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. In this chapter, qualitative findings are reported with an aim to highlight issues that are at times overlooked. Further, the findings are expected to help researchers better understand eHealth interventions for mental health care. Results from the two studies uncover interesting contrasts. While the part…
