Armbrust et al. 2015: Randomization questionable

2016

It is certainly possible that Cesarean delivery modifications like the one described by Armbrust, Hinkson, von Wiezsacker, and Henrich [1] are well received by mothers and partners, but some seriou...

Post-cesarean necrotizing fasciitis caused by surgical site infection

2017

Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rare, but rapidly progressive, potentially life-threatening soft tissue infection, with an incidence of 0.15-0.55 cases per 100,000 population. the gynecological-obstetric literature describes cases of NF due to surgical site infection (SSi) after cesarean delivery. this article discusses issues in the medicolegal evaluation of NF and the importance of prophylactic procedures, risk management protocols, and prompt diagnosis of this condition. two cases of post-cesarean NF due to SSi are reported. in both cases the responsibility lay with the hospitals and the medical staff owing to failure to adopt adequate SSi prophylaxis and to establish a timely diagnosis …

Ovarian cysts in newborns.

2001

Before the introduction of ultrasonography (US), ovarian cysts in newborns were thought to be rare. With the extended use of real-time US, prenatal detection has increased. There is still considerable controversy regarding the best treatment of these neonatal findings. A total of 27 instances in 24 consecutive newborns of antenatally-diagnosed ovarian cysts were reviewed for US data, management, and outcome to assess the ante- and postnatal evolution of the cyst and establish appropriate therapy. The cysts detected during pregnancy were studied by repeated postnatal US studies. In 10 children (2 with bilateral cysts) the cyst evolved spontaneously toward regression. Fourteen patients were o…

Small bowel obstruction after caesarean section: Laparoscopic management. Two case reports

2020

Abstract Introduction Caesarean section is the most common abdominal surgery performed on women worldwide. Adhesions represent a severe complication of cesarean section and can cause different degrees of bowel obstruction. Case reports We report two unusual cases of small bowel obstruction treated with laparoscopic approach after caesarean section performed for gynecological pathologies. In the first one small bowel obstruction was due to volvulus caused by a severe pelvic adhesion syndrome; in the second one, occlusive picture was related to presence of multiple adhesion phenomena between the sigmoid colon and the right ovary as result of abdominal hysterectomy. Discussion The incidence of…

Spontaneous labour at term is associated with fetal monocyte activation.

1999

SUMMARYThe aetiology of both term and preterm labour remains incompletely understood. Maternal infectious diseases as well as intra-uterine infections were shown to be a well established cause of uncontrollable preterm delivery, indicating that inflammatory reactions, regulated by maternal immunecompetent cells, are implicated in labour-promoting mechanisms. To investigate the possibility that the activation of the fetal immune system may be involved in labour induction, we examined cytokine production patterns of different cord blood cell populations obtained from neonates after spontaneous onset of normal term labour and vaginal delivery (n = 25), vaginal delivery but induced term labour …

Expired Tidal Volume and Respiratory Rate During Postnatal Stabilization of Newborn Infants Born at Term via Cesarean Delivery

2021

Objective To retrieve evolving respiratory measures in the first minutes after birth in normal neonates born at term using a respiratory function monitor. Study design We evaluated newborn babies delivered at term via cesarean after uncomplicated pregnancies. Immediately after birth, a respiratory function monitor with an adapted flowmeter and a face mask were applied at 2, 5, and 10 minutes after birth for 90 seconds in each period. We analyzed expired and inspired tidal volume, respiratory rate (RR), percentage of leakage, and number of analyzed breaths in each individual infant's recording using a respiratory research software. Results A total of 243 infants completed the study. The fina…

Vaginālās dzemdības pēc ķeizargrieziena operācijas anamnēzē

2016

2021

Bakalaura darba tēma: pacienta drošība ķeizargrieziena operācijas operatīvajā periodā. Tēmas aktualitāti pamato: ķeizargrieziena operāciju skaita pieaugums. Darba mērķis: noskaidrot pacienta drošību ķeizargrieziena operācijas operatīvajā periodā. Pētniecības uzdevumi: 1.apkopot un analizēt zinātnisko literatūru par pacientu drošību ķeizargrieziena operācijas operatīvajā periodā; 2.izstrādāt pētījumam novērojuma un intervijas protokolu; 3.veikt strukturētu novērošanu un intervēšanu, datu apkopošanu; 4.apkopot visus pētījumā iegūtos rezultātus; 5.izstrādāt secinājumus. Izvirzītais pētniecības jautājums: kāda ir pacienta drošība ķeizargrieziena operācijas operatīvajā periodā? Pētniecības metod…
