An explanation of the Δ D 35 (1930) as a σΔ bound state

2009

Constituent quark models based on two-body potentials systematically overpredict the mass of ΔD35 (1930). A possible solution to this problem comes out from the application of a schematic hybrid model, containing three-quark as well as meson-baryon components, to the light-quark baryon spectrum. The ΔD35 (1930) and its partners ΔD33 (1940) and ΔD31 (1900) are found to contain a significant σΔ component. Then, through the use of the hidden gauge formalism, it is shown that these resonances can be dynamically generated from the σ-Δ interaction. In particular ΔD35 (1930) can be interpreted as being essentially a σΔ bound state. This interpretation suggests that the inclusion of σΔ as an effect…

Four independent decay properties in the super-deformed well of 143Eu

1997

Abstract The flow of γ-transitions through the superdeformed minimum of 143Eu is investigated by studying the intensities of four different types of γ-rays of superdeformed origin, obtained with a variety of gating conditions. They can all be explained rather well by schematic simulation calculations assuming only well known statistical properties. Information on level density, competition between E1 and E2 strengths and rotational damping width in the SD well is obtained, yielding a rather complete picture of the feeding mechanism into different regions of the second minimum.

Schematic model for narrowΔ(1232)resonances bound in a nucleus

2001

A schematic model explaining the recent evidence for bound states of the $\ensuremath{\Delta}(1232)$ resonance in ${}^{12}\mathrm{C}$ with a width of about 5 MeV found in the ${}^{12}\mathrm{C}{(e,e}^{\ensuremath{'}}p{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{)}^{11}{\mathrm{C}}_{\mathrm{g}.\mathrm{s}.}$ is suggested. It interprets the observed narrow resonances as coherent bound states enforcing a fixed phase relation for the rescattering of the decay $\ensuremath{\pi}$'s in the nucleus. The coherent summing of the rescattering diagrams results in a cancellation of the tails of the resonance and a constructive interference in the maximum of the resonance leading to the observed narrow states at t…

Nuclear Contact Times in Dissipative Heavy Ion Collsions Measured Via γ-Ray Spectroscopy

1987

Electron spectra have been measured for elastic and dissipative U + Au collisions at 8.6 MeV/u and analysed within a simple schematic model which describes γ-ray emission in the presence of a nuclear contact time and a total kinetic energy loss (TKEL). A nearly linear dependence of the mean nuclear contact time τ and TKEL was found, reaching τ = 1.1 * 10-21 s with a variance σ = ±0.4 * 10-21 s for a TKEL of (400 ± 50) MeV.

Schematic or taxonomic organisation of the reality and the development of class logic

1994

Abstract The experiment studied the effect of various methods of organising reality (taxonomic vs. schematic) on success in inclusion and logical complementation tasks. Seventy-two nine-year-old children were divided into four groups on the basis of their logical structuring abilities. Using three sets of material (Animals, Plants, Means of Transportation), the subjects performed a sorting task and an evaluation task in which the taxonomic and schematic modes of organising reality were opposed. Contrary to our hypothesis, the ″;logical included' did not exhibit a greater capacity for taxonomic organisation than the “empirical includers” of the same age, either in the sorting or the evaluati…

Inside Front Cover: A Combined Top-Down/Bottom-Up Approach for the Nanoscale Patterning of Spin-Crossover Coordination Polymers (Adv. Mater. 16/2007)

2007

The background scanning electron microscopy image shows nanometric patterns of the 3D spin crossover coordination polymer Fe(pyrazine)[Pt(CN)4] (see schematic structure in the circle), which have been fabricated using a combination of lift-off and multilayer sequential assembly methods. These patterns, reported by Gabor Molnar, Azzedine Bousseksou, and co-workers on p. 2163, exhibit a bistability of their electronic states (1A1 ⇌ 5T2), and thus represent a novel platform for a wide array of potential applications.

Using schematic representation of resource systems to examine how first year engineering students use resources in their studies of mathematics

2018

International audience; Very little research has been done on how students use resources when studying mathematics. My project aim to examine this both quantitatively and qualitatively. The qualitative data collection includes hierarchical focus interviews and schematic representation of resource system, with the intent to impose as little terminology as possible on the students.

The optimal musical pause : the effects of expectancies, musical training, and personality

2016

The musical pause is an acoustic space between musical phrases, and is an important auditory quality because it can enhance tension by delaying the expected. It has been proposed that expectancies develop from long-term schematic knowledge learned through exposure; however, the dynamic attending theory indicates that expectancies arise from localized short-term knowledge found in the stimulus. This study aims to measure the optimal duration of the pause by assessing the influence of low-level musical features, long-term familiarity, musical ability, and personality. Musical excerpts were chosen from a variety of genres to include two phrases (separable by a silence), from which participants…
