In Sicilia, a fronte di un incremento dell’estensione dello screening organizzato del cervicocarcinoma, non corrisponde un aumento dell’adesione. Nei mesi di gennaio-giugno 2016 è stata condotta un’indagine trasversale somministrando un questionario standardizzato a un campione di 365 donne, per descrivere le ragioni del fenomeno e promuovere interventi mirati. Per le variabili di atteggiamento e conoscenza è stato utilizzato l’Health Belief Model, che ha esplorato la percezione della donna della suscettibilità (rischio di sviluppare il cancro), della gravità della patologia e dei benefici derivanti dal pap-test. Retracted Article: Differential detection and quantification of cyclic AMP and other adenosine phosphates in live cells

A new naphthol-based rhodamine derivative (NpRD) has been developed for the selective and differential detection of adenosine 3′,5′-cyclic monophosphate (cAMP) and adenosine phosphates (APs) (ATP, ADP, and AMP) from other nucleotides. The simple detection and quantification of cAMP in human blood cells and in other samples based on the ‘turn on’ fluorescence properties of this chemosensor through colorimetry or fluorometry makes it unique for probable application in high throughput screening.

Cyclooxygenase (COX) is a key enzyme in the biosynthetic pathway leading to the formation of prostaglandins, which are mediators of inflammation. It exists mainly in two isoforms COX-1 and COX-2. The conventional nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) have gastrointestinal side effects because they inhibit both isoforms. High-throughput Functional Genomics Identifies Genes That Ameliorate Toxicity Due to Oxidative Stress in Neuronal HT-22 Cells

We describe a novel genetic screen that is performed by transfecting every individual clone of an expression clone collection into a separate population of cells in a highthroughput mode. We combined high-throughput functional genomics with experimental validation to discover human genes that ameliorate cytotoxic responses of neuronal HT-22 cells upon exposure to oxidative stress. The ability of grapevine in vitro cultures to synthesise the phytoalexin precursor resveratrol in response to ultraviolet light irradiations is investigated in order to develop methods for screening for resistance to grey mould (Botrytis cinerea Pers.) in grapevines produced as a result of somatic embryogenesis. It is demonstrated that resveratrol formation can be reproducibly induced in leaves of in vitro plantlets. Differences in the production of resveratrol among the three varieties of Vitis vinifera tested (Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon) were consistent with observations regarding their field susceptibility to grey mould. Application of Molecular Topology to the Prediction of the Reaction Yield and Anticancer Activity of Imidazole and Guanidine Derivatives

In this study molecular topology based QSAR has been applied to predict the reaction yield and anticancer activity of 18 imidazole and guanidine derivatives. Four properties were evaluated, namely reaction yield, anti prostatic-cancer activity, anti breast-cancer activity and anti lung-cancer activity. The four models have been validated by both internal and cross validation, and also by randomness tests. The results obtained are in full agreement with the experimental results and confirm the precision, accuracy and robustness of the method followed. Objective: To determine whether the performance of multiple sclerosis (MS) patients in the sound-induced flash illusion (SiFi), a multisensory perceptual illusion, would reflect their cognitive impairment.Methods: We performed the SiFi task as well as an extensive neuropsychological testing in 95 subjects [39 patients with relapse-remitting MS (RRMS), 16 subjects with progressive multiple sclerosis (PMS) and 40 healthy control subjects (HC)].Results: MS patients reported more frequently the multisensory SiFi than HC.
