Façade et circulations urbaines : enjeux architecturaux et figuratifs. Le cas de Nantes

2008

2021

The essay illustrates the heterogeneous collection of the Civic Museum, named after the scholar and collector from Erice Antonio Cordici (1586 – 1666), begins a come to life around 1876. The Hernandez and Coppola donations, along with the artifacts acquired after the post-unification suppression of religious orders, constitute the main nucleus of the permanent exhibition, previously set up in the town hall and since 1939 in the rooms adjacent to the Library. The current arrangement of the collection of historical-artistic assets, which combines, through an adequate museographic set-up, the enhancement of the works with the conservation and safeguarding aspect, exhibits the artifacts accordi…

Identification of lead pigments in nanosamples from ancient paintings and polychromed sculptures using voltammetry of nanoparticles/atomic force micr…

2007

Voltammetry of nanoparticles coupled with atomic force microscopy was used to identify lead pigments in nanosamples proceeding from works of art. Upon mechanical attachment of few nanograms of sample to a graphite plate, well-defined voltammetric responses were obtained for lead orange, lead yellow, lead white, litharge, minium, Naples yellow, and tin-lead yellow, allowing for an unambiguous identification of such pigments. Atomic force images provide evidence for the occurrence of pigment-characteristic reduction processes accompanied by metal deposition on the graphite substrate. Electrochemical parameters are used for pigment identification. Application to the method for identifying lead…

Actuality of Art Education at the Beginning of XX Century in East Europe. Graphic Constructions Through Gestaltung and Formenlehre in Figurative Crea…

2018

The great innovations in the field of the elaboration of forms and figures in the last century have often sometimes accompanied the amazement and optimism of the discovery, a methodological uncertainty shared with other fields of Knowledge. It is undeniable that the advent of information technology and representation—together with the socio-economic changes that have taken place—has laid the foundations for an irreversible ontological leap in the process of form processing, and yet very often there are references historians that can somehow inspire current theories and practices. In this sense, some interpretations considered to be classical, from Valery to Benjamin, from Arnheim to Waburg,…

Rethinking the stylistic categories of Portuguese 19th Century Sculpture: The Work of António Teixeira Lopes

2018

2013

The topic of this thesis is the Marca dynasty, a piedmontese family from the Valsesia area, specialized in the stucco work. In the early eighteenth century, some of its members migrated to the Franche-Comté in France, in search of work, the others remaining in Piedmont. Their realizations can be studied in religious places and private houses in Italy, in Franche-Comté and Burgundy. These works (altars, pulpits, statues and bas-reliefs in stucco) were created between the late seventeenth century and the early nineteenth century. This topic is entirely unpublished, especially as the information on this family are rare and scattered. Moreover, no research has been undertaken on it, neither in …

2018

The Department Cultures and Societies of the University of Palermo in Italy owns a collection of forty plaster casts of ancient sculpture, dating back to the age of the academic teaching of Antonino Salinas (1841- 1914). In the intentions of the great archaeologist of Palermo, the plaster cast collection was of unavoidable help to teach classical art, in line with the contemporary usages of the Italian and foreign Universities. In the following decades, as everywhere, the collection progressively ended up by losing its central position in the study of archaeology, according to the transformations and the developments of the discipline over the twentieth century. In the latest times, all the…

Rinascimento “contemporaneo”. Riflessioni sul dialogo tra antico e moderno

2021

The exhibition of two video installations by Bill Viola, a contemporary artist considered the father of the Electronic Renaissance, is an opportunity to reflect on the Sicilian Renaissance. The contribution analyzes the relationship between ancient and modern in sculptural works by Domenico Gagini through the theme of water and purification, the theme of the exhibition. Works of decorative art in coral and silk are also analyzed, always linked to the lustral theme
