Design of a Planar Sensor Based on Split-Ring Resonator for Non-invasive Permittivity Measurement
2023
The permi)ivity of a material is an important parameter to characterize the degree of polarization of a material and identify components and impurities. This paper presents a non-invasive measurement technique to characterize materials in terms of their permi)ivity based on a modified metamaterial unit-cell sensor. The sensor consists of a complementary split-ring resonator (C-SRR), but its fringe electric field is contained with a conductive shield to intensify the normal component of the electric field. It is shown that by tightly electromagnetically coupling opposite sides of the unit-cell sensor to the input/output microstrip feedlines, two distinct resonant modes are excited. Perturbat…
Naming MINERALITY of French white wines : a contrastive study on the emergence of a " new " wine descriptor
2016
International audience; [Context] MINERAL / MINERALITY has emerged in wine prescriptive and descriptive discourses for about 20 years, especially to characterize special kinds of French white wines like Chablis in Northern Burgundy. Despite its very popular use by both experts and consumers, it still lacks a terminological definition that would be accepted by all wine professionals. For this reason, a research program was conducted in the last two years by an interdisciplinary team at the University of Burgundy and the Wine School of Changins (Switzerland) in order to cross semantic and sensory data enabling the establishment of a prototypical definition.[Aims] Building on the results of th…
A Study of the Simulated Evolution of the Spectral Sensitivity of Visual Agent Receptors
2001
In this article we study a model for the evolution of the spectral sensitivity of visual receptors for agents in a continuous virtual environment. The model uses a genetic algorithm (GA) to evolve the agent sensors along with the control of the agents by requiring the agents to solve certain tasks in the simulation environment. The properties of the evolved sensors are analyzed for different scenarios. In particular, it is shown that the GA is able to find a balance between sensor costs and agent performance in such a way that the spectral sensor sensitivity reflects the emission spectrum of the target objects and that the capability of the sensors to evolve can help the agents significantl…
Nxnl2 splicing results in dual functions in neuronal cell survival and maintenance of cell integrity
2012
International audience; The rod-derived cone viability factors, RdCVF and RdCVF2, have potential therapeutical interests for the treatment of inherited photoreceptor degenerations. In the mouse lacking Nxnl2, the gene encoding RdCVF2, the progressive decline of the visual performance of the cones in parallel with their degeneration, arises due to the loss of trophic support from RdCVF2. In contrary, the progressive loss of rod visual function of the Nxnl2-/- mouse results from a decrease in outer segment length, mediated by a cell autonomous mechanism involving the putative thioredoxin protein RdCVF2L, the second spliced product of the Nxnl2 gene. This novel signaling mechanism extends to o…
Imbalance between sympathetic and sensory innervation in peritoneal endometriosis
2011
To investigate possible mechanisms of pain pathophysiology in patients with peritoneal endometriosis, a clinical study on sensory and sympathetic nerve fibre sprouting in endometriosis was performed. Peritoneal lesions (n= 40) and healthy peritoneum (n= 12) were immunostained and analysed with anti-protein gene product 9.5 (PGP 9.5), anti-substance P (SP) and anti-tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), specific markers for intact nerve fibres, sensory nerve fibres and sympathetic nerve fibres, respectively, to identify the ratio of sympathetic and sensory nerve fibres. In addition, immune cell infiltrates in peritoneal endometriotic lesions were analysed and the nerve growth factor (NGF) and interleuki…
3 - 4 gadus vecu bērnu sensorās attīstības veicināšana ar dabas materiāliem
2015
Metagenomic, microbiological, chemical and sensory profiling of Caciocavallo Podolico Lucano cheese
2023
In this study, Caciocavallo Podolico Lucano (CPL) cheese was deeply characterized for its bacterial community, chemical composition and sensory aspects. The entire cheese making process (from milk collection to ripened cheese) was performed by strictly applying the traditional protocol for CPL production in four dairy factories (A–D) representative of the production area. The vat made of wood represents the main transformation tool for CPL cheese production and the biofilms hosted onto the internal surfaces of all vats analyzed in this study were dominated by lactic acid bacteria. Total mesophilic microorganisms present in bulk milk (4.7–5.0 log CFU/ml) increased consistently after contact …
Isolation and characterisation of autochthonous Saccharomyces cerevisiae from 'Pago' Merlot wines of Utiel-Requena (Spain) origin
2022
[EN] Background and Aims To achieve both the control of the undesirable yeasts and the improvement of the characteristics of Merlot 'Pago' wines, Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast diversity was investigated in a spontaneous 'Pago' Merlot fermentation from the Utiel-Requena region (Spain). Isolates of S. cerevisiae were characterised by a holistic procedure using the same Merlot grape must from which they were isolated. Methods and Results Yeasts were identified by internal transcribed spacer analysis and typed by HinfI mDNA restriction analysis. Growth and metabolic characteristics of the isolates were determined by laboratory-scale (50 L) fermentations of Merlot must and the composition of th…

Le nombre de sujets dans les panels d'analyse sensorielle : une approche base de données
2012
The costs associated with sensory evaluation increase with the number of panelists to be enrolled. Classical power computation can be used to derive the minimal number of subjects of a sensory panel in order to control both type I (α risk) and type II (β risk) errors. However, this power computation requires estimates of the size of the product effect to be sought and of the residual variability of the ANOVA model used. Generally, both product effect size and residual variability are difficult to estimate a priori by the sensory analyst. This work offers estimations of these two parameters thanks to the analysis of hundreds descriptive andhedonic studies collected respectively in two databa…
