Longitudinal Gait Analysis of a Transfemoral Amputee Patient: Single-Case Report from Socket-Type to Osseointegrated Prosthesis

2023

The aim of the present case report was to provide a longitudinal functional assessment of a patient with transfemoral amputation from the preoperative status with socket-type prosthesis to one year after the osseointegration surgery. A 44 years-old male patient was scheduled for osseointegration surgery 17 years after transfemoral amputation. Gait analysis was performed through 15 wearable inertial sensors (MTw Awinda, Xsens) before surgery (patient wearing his standard socket-type prosthesis) and at 3-, 6-, and 12-month follow-ups after osseointegration. ANOVA in Statistical Parametric Mapping was used to assess the changes in amputee and sound limb hip and pelvis kinematics. The gait symm…

High-Sensitivity Whispering Gallery Mode Humidity Sensor Based on Glycerol Microdroplet Volumetric Expansion

2021

We demonstrate a highly sensitive whispering gallery mode (WGM) relative humidity (RH) sensor based on a glycerol microdroplet. WGMs were excited using a 760 nm tunable semiconductor laser. We used free space coupling, which is effective when using a liquid resonator. A detailed analysis of different parameters influencing the sensor’s characteristics (sensitivity, hysteresis, resolution, stability, and temperature) is presented. The sensitivity of the sensor is one of the highest reported (2.85 nm/% RH in the range 50–70% RH with the resolution 1 × 10−4% RH). This type of humidity sensor has several advantages, such as high sensitivity, extended lifetime, good repeatability, and low cost, …

Electronic Energy Meter Based on a Tunnel Magnetoresistive Effect (TMR) Current Sensor

2017

In the present work, the design and microfabrication of a tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) electrical current sensor is presented. After its physical and electrical characterization, a wattmeter is developed to determine the active power delivered to a load from the AC 50/60 Hz mains line. Experimental results are shown up to 1000 W of power load. A relative uncertainty of less than 1.5% with resistive load and less than 1% with capacitive load was obtained. The described application is an example of how TMR sensing technology can play a relevant role in the management and control of electrical energy.

Nanofilm Low Cost Oxygen Sensors

2009

Abstract The resitivity change of ultra thin metals under air exposure is used for vacuum or inert gas packaging control. In order to reach low cost, single use applications, few nm thin Aluminum layers were deposited on PET substrates and combined with wireless electronic readout circuitry. The sensor respose is characterized by resistance changes and explained in terms of multiphase diffusion mechanisms which are very sensitive to technological parameters.

A Computationally Efficient Online/Offline Signature Scheme for Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks

2022

Underwater wireless sensor networks (UWSNs) have emerged as the most widely used wireless network infrastructure in many applications. Sensing nodes are frequently deployed in hostile aquatic environments in order to collect data on resources that are severely limited in terms of transmission time and bandwidth. Since underwater information is very sensitive and unique, the authentication of users is very important to access the data and information. UWSNs have unique communication and computation needs that are not met by the existing digital signature techniques. As a result, a lightweight signature scheme is required to meet the communication and computation requirements. In this researc…

Dzelzceļa pārbrauktuves automatizētas uzraudzības programmatūras izveides risinājums

2022

Darba teorētiskā daļā tiek noskaidrotas risinājuma prasības, apskatīti eksistējošie risinājumi, veikta to analīze un salīdzinājums; izpētīta aktuālā literatūra, analizētas risinājuma darbību algoritmi; definēts risinājuma variants. Darba praktiskajā daļā tiek ieviests risinājums, aprakstīts ieviestais risinājums un aprakstīti veiktie pētījumi. Darbā tika īstenots dzelzceļa pārbrauktuves pārraudzīb…

Lasten tuntoaistin säätelypulmien ja niitä helpottavien keinojen kartoitus : kysely erityislastentarhanopettajille

2015

TIIVISTELMÄ Söderena, Maarit. 2015. Lasten tuntoaistin säätelypulmien ja niitä helpottavien keinojen kartoitus – kysely erityislastentarhanopettajille. Erityispedagogiikan pro gradu -tutkielma. Jyväskylän yliopisto. Kasvatustieteiden laitos. Tutkimuksessa kartoitettiin kuinka paljon Helsingin päivähoidon suomenkielisten erityisryhmien ja integroitujen erityisryhmien (N = 47) lapsilla oli tuntoaistin säätelypulmia kevätkaudella 2014. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin erityislastentarhanopettajien käsityksiä siitä miten tuntoaistin säätelypulmat näkyvät päiväkodin arjessa ja millaisia keinoja on käytössä niiden helpottamiseksi. Lisäksi selvitettiin miten vastaajien käsitysten mukaan tuntoaistin säät…

Effectiveness of a kindergarten-based intervention to increase vegetable intake and reduce food neophobia amongst 1-year-old children: a cluster rand…

2021

Background: Children’s first years of life are crucial to their future health. Studies show that a varied diet with a high intake of vegetables is positive in several domains of health. The present low vegetable intake amongst children is, therefore, a concern. Food neophobia is a common barrier to vegetable intake in children. As most Norwegian children attend kindergarten from an early age, kindergartens could contribute to the prevention of food neophobia and the promotion of vegetable intake. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the effect of a cluster randomised trial amongst 1-year-old children in kindergarten to reduce food neophobia and promote healthy eating. Methods: Kin…
