Cadmium availability at different soil pH to transgenic tobacco overexpressing ferritin

International audience; Knowledge on physiological mechanisms and plant metabolism can be used to enhance metal uptake. The capacity to uptake metals of transgenic tobaccos overexpressing ferritin in plastids (P6) or in cytoplasm (C5) and a control tobacco (A) is assessed in three polluted soils from the same soil series, with a similar Cd content, but displaying pH from 5.8 to 7 (8b2, 8b3, S11). Differences in dry leave weight were not significant between the three tobaccos growing on each soil. Our knowledge of the factors affecting species abundances is mainly based on time-series analyses of a few well-studied species at single or few localities, but we know little about whether results from such analyses can be extrapolated to the community level. We apply a joint species distribution model to long-term time-series data on British bird communities to examine the relative contribution of intra- and interspecific density dependence at different spatial scales, as well as the influence of environmental stochasticity, to spatiotemporal interspecific variation in abundance. All-day activity of Dolichovespula saxonica (Hymenoptera, Vespidae) colonies in Central Finland

In social vespid wasps, colony activity varies at many temporal scales. We studied the peak season activity (number of individuals entering the nest per min) of colonies of the social vespine wasp Dolichovespula saxonica in its native range in boreal Finland. Six colonies were monitored non-stop for a full day, starting before sunrise and ending after sunset. Shorter monitoring was carried out before and/or after the full-day monitoring. Series arc faults in AC and DC electrical circuits. Characterization and detection methods

This paper analyzes the problem of the arc faults in both AC and DC low voltage electrical circuits. The state-of-the-art of the arc fault detection methods is analyzed together with the UL 1699 and UL 1699B Standard requirements for protection devices against arc faults (AFCIs). An experimental characterization is carried out of the arc fault phenomenon, for both AC and DC systems, focusing the attention on series arcs. The experimental measurements are carried out on a proper test bench, which has been developed in order to reproduce significant arcing conditions, in accordance with the UL 1699 Standard requirements.

Abstract Complications in dental implant surgery are possible. Bleeding complications have been described that may be serious, particularly in the floor of the mouth. We present two cases of sublingual hematomas during dental implant osteotomies that impeded but did not close the airway. The clinical courses of these patient’s complications are reviewed. One patient had immediate hematoma formation while the other developed a hematoma overnight, presenting the next day. The treatment rendered was a precautionary in-hospital tracheotomy for the first patient and only compression control for the second.
