Line Shape Measurement and Modelling for Plasma Diagnostics
2014
In this paper we discuss different methods of narrow spectral line shape measurements for a wide spectral range by means of high-resolution spectrometers such as the Fabry-Perot spectrometer, Zeeman spectrometer and Fourier transform spectrometer as well as a theoretical model for spectral line shape modelling and solving of the inverse task based on Tikhonov's regularization method. Special attention is devoted to the line shape measurements for the optically thin light sources filled with Hg, Ar, Xe, Kr for their use in high precision analysers for detection of heavy metals and benzene.
From Defined Reactive Diblock Copolymers to Functional HPMA-Based Self-Assembled Nanoaggregates
2008
This paper describes the synthesis of functional amphiphilic poly( N-(2-hydroxypropyl) methacrylamide)-block-poly(lauryl methacrylate) copolymers by RAFT polymerization via the intermediate step of activated ester block copolymers (pentafluoro-phenyl methacrylate). Block copolymers with molecular weights from 12000-28000 g/mol and PDIs of about 1.2 have been obtained. The amphiphilic diblock copolymers form stable super structures (nanoaggregates) by self-organization in aqueous solution. The diameters of these particles are between 100 and 200 nm and depend directly on the molecular weight of the block copolymer. Furthermore, we investigated the impact of these nanoaggregates on cell viabi…
Testing the BEST procedure to estimate the soil water retention curve
2012
The BEST (Beerkan Estimation of Soil Transfer parameters) procedure is attractive for simple soil hydraulic characterization but there is the need to test the reliability of the predictions. In this investigation, the BEST procedure to predict water retention of 199 Sicilian soils was evaluated. The BEST water retention model performed well (relative error, Er≤0.05) for approximately 80% of the soil samples. Low errors were obtained in soils with a high clay, cl, content (≥44%), whereas both high and low Er values were obtained in soils with a lower cl content. The BEST particle size distribution (PSD) model was accurate for 50% of the samples and the fitting accuracy increased with cl, wit…
Line mixing in the ν1 and 2ν2 isotropic Raman Q-branch of CO2 perturbed by argon and helium
1999
0021-9606; The shapes of the ν1 and 2ν2 isotropic Raman Q-branch of CO2 perturbed by argon and helium have been measured by Stimulated Raman Spectroscopy (SRS) or coherent anti-Stokes Raman Spectroscopy (CARS) techniques. The data have been successfully analyzed with an energy corrected sudden (ECS) approximation model based on basic rates determined independently. Finally comparison of the present data with time resolved double resonance experiments allows us to discuss the physical origin of the two empirical constants which account for the shift and broadening of the branch due to vibrational effects. Brancati su Pirandello e il pirandellismo
2019
Testing different approaches to characterize Burundian soils by the best procedure
2011
Abstract The Beerkan Estimation of Soil Transfer parameters (BEST) procedure seems attractive for soil hydraulic characterization but it has received little testing so far. The objective of this investigation was to test BEST with different application approaches for some soils in Burundi, where there is the need of using simple methods to characterize soils. Most (14) of the 19 sampled sites had a clay soil texture whereas texture ranged from silty clay to loam in the other cases. On average, the fitting ability of both the particle size distribution (PSD) model (mean relative error, Me ( E r ) = 2.0%) and the cumulative infiltration model ( Me ( E r ) = 2.3%) was good according to recomme…
Estimation of Solute-Stationary Phase and Solute-Mobile Phase Interactions in the Presence of Ionic Liquids
2019
The presence of free silanols on alkyl-bonded reversed-phase stationary phases is responsible for broad and asymmetrical peaks when basic drugs are chromatographed with conventional octadecylsilane (C18) columns due to ionic interactions. In the last few years, ionic liquids (ILs) have attracted attention to reduce this undesirable silanol activity. ILs should be considered as dual modifiers (with a cationic and anionic character), which means that both cations and anions are able to adsorb on the stationary phase, creating a positively or negatively charged layer, depending on the relative adsorption. The accessibility of basic compounds to the silanols is prevented by both the IL cation a…
Functionality of endothelial cells on silk fibroin nets: Comparative study of micro- and nanometric fibre size
2007
Biomimetic material design, such as mimicking nanostructured components of the extracellular matrix, is an actual challenge for biomaterial research with a high impact on tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Thus, understanding the cellular response at the cell biological and molecular level and the consequences of various chemically or physically modified biomaterials is highly important. In the present study we assessed the response of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) and outgrowth endothelial cells (OEC) from endothelial progenitor cells to different variants of nanofibrous silk fibroin nets in comparison to microfibrous silk fibroin scaffolds with regard to cellul…
Electronic and Magnetic Properties of Li1.5Mn0.5As Alloys in the Cu2Sb Structure
2013
We investigated two formula-units of Li1.5Mn0.5As alloys, such as Li3MnAs2, in the Cu2Sb crystal structure using an ab-initio algorithm. By interchanging Mn with each Li located at different positions of the Li4As2unit cell, four separate alloys are formed. At the optimized lattice constant, two of these alloys are predicted to be ferromagnetic metals and the other two are half metals. The possibility of half metallicity in the first two is also explored. Both the modified Slater-Pauling-Kübler rule and the ionic model can characterize the magnetic moments of the half metals.
