Utilization of mulberry leaves (Morus latifolia cv. Kokusou 21) in diets for dairy ewes

Twelve Valle del Belice lactating ewes were divided into three homogeneous groups and fed ad libitum the following diets in a 3 x 3 Latin square design: sulla hay (HA); sulla hay and Mulberry leaves (M. leaves) (HM); M. leaves (MU). DM intake of MU ewes was lower than that of HM ewes, with an intermediate level for HA ewes. HM ewes showed to prefer M. leaves to hay, but their need to balance the high protein and low NDF contents of M. leaves by eating hay also emerged. The history behind successful uterine transplantation in humans

This paper aimed to describe the basic aspects of uterine transplant (UTx) research in humans, including preliminary experiences in rodents and domestic species. Studies in rats, domestic species, and non-human primates validated and optimized the UTx procedure in terms of its surgical aspects, immunosuppression, rejection diagnosis, peculiarities of pregnancy in immunosuppressed patients, and patients with special uterine conditions. In animal species, the first live birth from UTx was achieved in a syngeneic mouse model in 2003. Twenty-five UTx procedures have been performed in humans. Hemocyte migration during inflammatory-like reaction of Ciona intestinalis (Tunicata, ascidiacea).

Following an injuring factor such as the injection of erythrocytes into the tunic of Ciona intestinalis, an inflammatory-like response occurs and blood cells are massively involved in these mechanisms. Electron microscope observations illustrate the infiltration and migration of blood cells throughout the mantle epithelium into the tunic and show several prominent morphological changes.

Effect of DB-c-AMP on mechanical characteristics of ventricular and atrial preparations of several mammalian species

Conflicting results exist about the influence of cyclic N6-2′-O-dibutyryl-AMP (DB-c-AMP) on myocardial contractile force. The present study was designed to examine whether the positive inotropic action of DB-c-AMP is restricted to certain model preparations or whether it can be assumed to represent a more general effect of the drug. Therefore, the effects of DB-c-AMP on myocardial force and on various parameters of the isometric contraction curve were examined in isolated electrically driven (0.5–2Hz) ventricular and atrial preparations of several mammalian species (cat, rabbit, calf, sheep, rat and guinea-pig). T cell factor (interleukin 2) allows in vivo induction of T helper cells against heterologous erythrocytes in athymic (nu/nu) mice.

Mice carrying the nude mutation (nu/nu) lack a functioning thymus and do not contain detectable levels of immunocompetent T cells. We now report that nu/nu mice do have lymphocytes which can be activated in vivo by heterologous erythrocytes and a Lyt-1 T cell-derived factor (interleukin 2) to generate T helper cells. Thus, a lymphokine is described which is able to restore in vivo T helper cell immunocompetence of nu/nu mice. The data may suggest that nu/nu mice contain a low number of T lymphocytes influenced by the cystic remnant of the nu/nu thymus anlage. Alternatively, the data imply that interleukin 2 circumvents the requirement of a thymus during ontogeny of T lymphocytes.

Preliminary characterization of wild lactic acid bacteria and their abilities to produce flavour compounds in ripened model cheese system.

Aims:  The aim of this work was to preliminary characterize wild lactic acid bacteria (LAB), previously isolated during artisanal Pecorino Siciliano (PS) cheese-making for technological and flavour formation abilities in a model cheese system. Biodiversity and dairy traits of indigenous milk lactic acid bacteria grown in presence of the main grape polyphenols

ABSTRACT The present work was developed to select lactic acid bacteria (LAB) to be used as starter cultures in functional cheese production.
