<p style="text-align: justify;">The respective influences of the leaves and shoot apex on stimulation of internodal elongation were studied in the grapevine. Factors influencing axillary shoot proliferation and adventitious budding in cedar.

We developed procedures for in vitro cloning of Cedrus atlantica Manetti and C. libani A. Rich explants from juvenile and mature plants. Explant size was one determinant of the frequency of axillary bud break in both species. Shoot tips and nodal explants mainly developed calli, whereas bud sprouting occurred in defoliated microcuttings cultured on a modified Murashige and Skoog medium without growth regulators. In vitro plant regeneration of caper (Capparis spinosa L.) from floral explants and genetic stability of regenerants

A new technique to regenerate caper plants (Capparis spinosa L. subsp. rupestris) starting from flower explant is reported. In vitro plant regeneration was attempted using stigma, anthers and unfertilized ovules of unopened flowers collected in the field. Plant regeneration was achieved from unfertilized ovules on MS medium supplemented with 88 mM sucrose and 13 lM 6-benzyladenine (BA). Development of the adhesive pad on climbing fig (Ficus pumila) stems from clusters of adventitious roots

Vines have different climbing strategies; one type, called clinging vines, has developed a specialized structure, the adhesive pad that secretes a sticky substance that adheres to almost any substrate. In this study on the climbing fig, Ficus pumila L., we report on the developmental anatomy of clusters of adventitious roots that become transformed into this unique structure. Clustered adventitious roots in F. pumila are initiated in pairs on either side of a vascular bundle at the 2nd to 3rd internodes of young stems. Potential use of new diphenylurea derivatives in micropropagation of Capparis spinosa L.

A protocol for in vitro multiplication of caper (Capparis spinosa L. subsp. rupestris) from nodal segments collected from mature plants was developed. For shoot multiplication, one auxin (indol-3-butyric acid, IBA) and cytokinins of two different classes were used: the N6-substituted adenine derivatives 6-benzylamino purine (BAP), and the two synthetic phenylurea derivatives N-phenyl-N′-benzothiazol-6-ylurea (PBU) and N-phenyl-N′-(1,2,3-thidiazol-5-yl) urea (thidiazuron, TDZ). Micropropagation of bay laurel (Daphne gnidiumL.)

SummaryProcedures have been developed for the micropropagation of Daphne gnidium, a shrub species of ecological interest, using explants of juvenile and adult origin. Shoot proliferation rates were significantly affected by both salt formulation and benzylade- nine concentration. Best results were obtained on WP medium with 5 µM BA. The presence of indoleacetic acid in the induction medium improved BA-induced axillary bud proliferation from juvenile explants. Rooting of shoots produced in culture was difficult, especially those of adult origin. Defoliation and the availability of currently assimilated carbon in the Phleum pratense rhizosphere

Abstract It has been hypothesised that defoliation and aboveground herbivory increase the availability of currently assimilated C to organisms living in plant rhizospheres. We established a growth chamber experiment consisting of Phleum pratense individuals growing in sand culture to examine the short- and long-term effects of defoliation on the availability of current C assimilates in the P. pratense rhizosphere. Adventitious shoot regeneration from hypocotyl cultures of service tree(Sorbus domesticaL.)

Effects of growth regulators and N03:NH4 ratio were investigated to determine the mor- phogenic capacity of hypocotyl explants of service tree (Sorbus domestica L.) Organogenic responses were preceded by an initial callus phase and depended mainly on the auxin type used. NAA induced root differentiation whereas IAA added to media containing BA promoted adventitious shoot regeneration. Best results were obtained with 2.5 μM each of BA and IAA (19% of caulogenic explants). This reponse was increased (up to 44%) by varying nitrate to ammonium ratio from 2:1 to 4:1.
