: In this study the thermoelastic signal from carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) laminates is investigated. A comparison between the theoretical and experimental values of the thermoelastic signal is reported, with the theoretical predictions obtained from two different quantitative models. These models are based on the classic thermoelastic effect law extended to the case of orthotropic materials (by using the mesomechanical or bulk approach), and the modified law assuming that the surface resin-rich layer behaves as a strain witness of the laminate. We present a technique employing dielectrophoretic (DEP) manipulation of surface immobilized complexes integrated with a magnetic imaging platform based on nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond for the quantitative measurements of non-covalent interactions. The interdigitated microelectrodes closely spaced to the functionalized surface of the diamond plate provide a wide range of applied DEP forces for noninvasive manipulation of various molecular interactions, while the NV layer under the surface reports the unbinding dynamics. Glykys et al . (Reports, 7 February 2014, p. 670) proposed that cytoplasmic impermeant anions and polyanionic extracellular matrix glycoproteins establish the local neuronal intracellular chloride concentration, [Cl – ] i , and thereby the polarity of γ-aminobutyric acid type A (GABA A ) receptor signaling. The experimental procedures and results in this study are insufficient to support these conclusions. Contradictory results previously published by these authors and other laboratories are not referred to.

The present immunohistochemical study demonstrates the multiplicity, histotopography and origin of peptidergic innervation in the mammalian heart. Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is the major representative of peptides in cardiac sympathetic efferents. Sympathetic afferents are characterized by the presence of tachykinins, calcitonin gene-related peptide and apparently also some opioid peptides. Predominant peptides of the vagal system are tachykinins. The intrinsic peptidergic system predominantly consists of vasoactive intestinal polypeptide/peptide histidine isoleucine. Abstract We report measurements of the flux-integrated ν̅μ and ν̅μ + νμ charged-current cross-sections on water and hydrocarbon targets using the T2K anti-neutrino beam with a mean beam energy of 0.86 GeV. The signal is defined as the (anti-)neutrino charged-current interaction with one induced $\mu^\pm$ and no detected charged pion or proton. These measurements are performed using a new WAGASCI module recently added to the T2K setup in combination with the INGRID Proton Module. The phase space of muons is restricted to the high-detection efficiency region, $p_{\mu}>400~{\rm MeV}/c$ and $\theta_{\mu}<30^{\circ}$, in the laboratory frame. Calculation of vapor pressures not requiring the derivatives of the energy of mixing

A method is presented for the calculation of vapor pressures exclusively on the basis of the energy of mixing, the knowledge of chemical potentials is not required. The only condition used for the calculation is the minimum of the energy of mixing of the overall system in equilibrium. The gas phase is treated as an ideal gas, for the liquid phase no specific thermodynamic description is assumed. The method is demonstrated for a mixture of two solvents and one polymer. Energy-stable linear schemes for polymer-solvent phase field models

We present new linear energy-stable numerical schemes for numerical simulation of complex polymer-solvent mixtures. The mathematical model proposed by Zhou, Zhang and E (Physical Review E 73, 2006) consists of the Cahn-Hilliard equation which describes dynamics of the interface that separates polymer and solvent and the Oldroyd-B equations for the hydrodynamics of polymeric mixtures. The model is thermodynamically consistent and dissipates free energy. Our main goal in this paper is to derive numerical schemes for the polymer-solvent mixture model that are energy dissipative and efficient in time.
