Pediatric Endoscopic Pilonidal Sinus Treatment (PEPSiT) in Children With Pilonidal Sinus Disease: Tips and Tricks and New Structurated Protocol

Background: The advent of pediatric endoscopic pilonidal sinus treatment (PEPSiT) has dramatically changed the surgical management of pilonidal sinus disease (PSD) in children and adolescents. This study aimed to report the outcome of our new structurated protocol, including PEPSiT, laser epilation, and oxygen-enriched oil-based gel dressing, for treatment of PSD in pediatric patients and describe tips and tricks of the technique. Silver Impregnation of Alzheimer's Neurofibrillary Changes Counterstained for Basophilic Material and Lipofuscin Pigment

A method is described in which selective silver staining of Alzheimer's neurofibrillary changes is combined with staining of cell nuclei, Nissl material, and lipofuscin granules. Formalin fixed, paraffin embedded sections of human autopsy tissue are silver stained according to a method proposed by Gallyas. Lipofuscin is stained by crotonaldehyde fuchsin following performic acid oxidation. Nissl substance is visualized by either Darrow red or gallocyanin-chrome alum staining. Architectonic units showing the specific pathology and the neuronal types prone to develop the neurofibrillary changes can be recognized using this technique.

Perineural pattern of aggregation of cellular blue nevus: probable histoarchitectural reminiscence of histogenesis.

A striking feature of cellular blue nevus consists in the presence, in its histologic picture, of numerous hypertrophic nerves and nerve-like figures, positive for histochemical and immunohistochemical methods for nerve fibers and myelin sheaths. These findings, first described in Masson's original article and repeatedly highlighted in the past for their possible histogenetic significance, are currently considered as merely coincidental. Prevalence and Risk of Anisakid Larvae in Fresh Fish Frequently Consumed in Spain: An Overview

Anisakidosis is a fish-borne zoonosis caused by parasitic nematodes of the family Anisakidae, of which the species belonging to Anisakis simplex complex are the most representative. It is considered an emerging disease in Spain. The objective of this study is to analyse the presence of larvae in fish frequently consumed in Spanish supermarkets, inferring the risk of infection. In total 1,786 specimens of 9 different fish species, from two geographical origins (Atlantic and Mediterranean), acquired fresh and not eviscerated were examined for anisakid nematodes. Phase transitions in Ag-based solid electrolytes as detected by thermosonimetry

Abstract Observations of the acoustic emission accompanying the solid–solid (polymorphic) phase changes in silver iodide and silver chalcogenides were performed. It has been found that the temperature dependencies of both the number of acoustic events and their counting rate, registered when heating the investigated materials, display distinct anomalies at the temperature corresponding to the polymorphic phase transition occurring in a given substance. In this paper, we present a comprehensive theoretical study, based on density-functional theory calculations, and which focuses on the structural and electronic properties of silver vanadium oxide (AgVO3) in the monoclinic [Cm (β-AgVO3), C2/c (α-AgVO3), and Cc], orthorhombic (Amm2), and cubic (Pm3̅m) phases from 0–30 GPa. The structural and electronic properties, the stability of different phases, and the pressure-induced solid–solid phase transitions of AgVO3 have been previously studied. Direct measurement of optical losses in plasmon-enhanced thin silicon films (Conference Presentation)

Plasmon-enhanced absorption, often considered as a promising solution for efficient light trapping in thin film silicon solar cells, suffers from pronounced optical losses i.e. parasitic absorption, which do not contribute to the obtainable photocurrent. Plasmonic photoluminescence enhancement by silver nanowires

Strong enhancement of photoluminescence is demonstrated for CdS nanocrystals and ruthenium-based dye (N719) due to localized surface plasmon resonance of silver nanowires placed on silver film. Alternative reasons for photoluminescence modulation such as mirror effect and uneven coating by dye or nanocrystals due to geometrical factors are discussed. An artifact such as carbon contamination at the surface of silver nanowires at high laser power is demonstrated and taken into consideration. Silver nanowire on silver film is proved to be an effective system for photoluminescence enhancement by localized surface plasmon resonance.

Luminescence of biexcitons in silver halide crystals

Abstract As it is known from Urbach rule, free excitons defining the fundamental absorption edge in AgBr 1 − x Cl x (0 ⩽ x ⩽ 1). The process of primary Frenkel defect creation which involves free exciton states even in AgCl and biexciton creation in AgCl are discussed. The fast luminescence band at ≈3.0 eV observed in AgCl under high-density pulsed electron beam and laser excitation has been studied. It is shown that its intensity is a non-linear function of the excitation density. We suggest that the fast luminescence comes from biexcitons; binding energies of such biexcitons in AgBr 1 − x Cl x (0 ⩽ x ⩽ 1) are estimated.
