The use and beauty of ultra-high-resolution seismic reflection imaging in Late Quaternary marine volcaniclastic settings, Napoli Bay, Italy

2019

A Nápolyi-öbölben felvett ultra nagy felbontású egycsatornás (IKB-Seistec™) reflexiós szeizmikus szelvények korábbi geológiai és geofizikai vizsgálatok eredményeivel együtt kivételes, eddig soha nem látott felbontású szeizmikus leképezését nyújtják a Flegrei-mezők és a Somma-Vezúv felszín alá süllyedt késő-pleisztocén–holocén rétegtani felépí - tésének. A szeizmikus szelvényeken látott geometria és gravitációs magvevővel nyert üledékek adatainak összevetéséből Campania partközeli kontinentális talapzatán számos olyan üledékes és vulkáni szerkezet, valamint hidrotermális jelenség került leképezésre, melyek a legutolsó glaciális maximum (kb. 18 000 év) óta keletkeztek. A Pozzuoli-öbölben mért…

A cooperating strategy for objects recognition

1999

The paper describes an object recognition system, based on the co-operation of several visual modules (early vision, object detector, and object recognizer). The system is active because the behavior of each module is tuned on the results given by other modules and by the internal models. This solution allows to detect inconsistencies and to generate a feedback process. The proposed strategy has shown good performance especially in case of complex scene analysis, and it has been included in the visual system of the DAISY robotics system. Experimental results on real data are also reported.

Genetic algorithm-based calibration of microscopic traffic simulation model for single-lane roundabouts

2017

A calibration procedure for microscopic simulation models based on a genetic algorithm is proposed. Focus is made on single-lane roundabouts for which many random factors such as gap- acceptance affect operations. A comparison is performed between the capacity functions based on a meta- analytic estimation of critical and follow up headways and simulation outputs of a roundabout built in Aimsun microscopic simulator. Aimsun parameters were optimized using the genetic algorithm tool in MATLAB® which automatically interacted with Aimsun through a Python interface. Results showed that applying the genetic algorithm in the calibration process of the microscopic simulation model, a good match to…

Video object recognition and modeling by SIFT matching optimization

2014

In this paper we present a novel technique for object modeling and object recognition in video. Given a set of videos containing 360 degrees views of objects we compute a model for each object, then we analyze short videos to determine if the object depicted in the video is one of the modeled objects. The object model is built from a video spanning a 360 degree view of the object taken against a uniform background. In order to create the object model, the proposed techniques selects a few representative frames from each video and local features of such frames. The object recognition is performed selecting a few frames from the query video, extracting local features from each frame and looki…

Image Segmentation through a Hierarchy of Minimum Spanning Trees

2012

Many approaches have been adopted to solve the problem of image segmentation. Among them a noticeable part is based on graph theory casting the pixels as nodes in a graph. This paper proposes an algorithm to select clusters in the images (corresponding to relevant segments in the image) corresponding to the areas induced in the images through the search of the Minimum Spanning Tree (MST). In particular is is based on a clustering algorithm that extracts clusters computing a hierarchy of Minimum Spanning Trees. The main drawback of this previous algorithm is that the dimension of the cluster is not predictable and a relevant portion of found clusters can be composed by micro-clusters that ar…

Settore IUS/07 - Diritto Del LavoroThe article examines the question of the applicability of the forfeiture pursuant to art. 32 lett. d) of the law n. 183/2021 ai in the case in which the existence of a single center of attribution of the employment relationship is claimed.

Systematic review by meta-analyses on the possible role of TNF-alpha polymorphisms in association with Alzheimer's disease.

2009

It has been hypothesized that polymorphisms of Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF)-alpha gene affect the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, results of different studies are often inconsistent. Our aim was to investigate by meta-analysis the association of the common polymorphisms comprehensively defining the genetic variability of the TNF-alpha gene with AD risk. Hence, the results being stated are of a meta-analysis across studies, and that this meta-analysis does not invalidate the results of the individual studies previously performed. Seventeen studies that investigated the association between 5 TNF-alpha polymorphisms (-850, -308, -863, -238, and -1031) and AD were retrieved…

Prognostic significance of p16INK4a alterations and 9p21 loss of heterozigosity in locally advanced laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma

2002

The p16INK4a gene, localized within chromosome 9p21, has been identified as a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor and may negatively regulate the cell cycle acting as a tumor suppressor. Genetic alterations involving the 9p21 region are common in human cancers. A consecutive series of 64 untreated patients (median of follow up 53 months) undergoing surgical resection for locally advanced laryngeal squamous-cell carcinomas (LSCCs) has been studied prospectively. Our purpose was to investigate p16 alterations (9p21 allelic loss, hypermethylation and point mutations) and their possible association with clinico-pathological data and flow cytometric variables (DNA-ploidy and S-phase fraction (SPF)…

Two single nucleotide polymorphisms in the MICA gene and sMICA plasma levels are associated with hepatocellular carcinoma development in an Italian p…

2017

Background & Aims: We investigated the relationships between MICA polymorphisms, sMICA levels and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) risk in HCC patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Methods.154 HCV-related HCC cases, 93 HCV-related liver cirrhosis (LC) cases and 244 healthy controls were genotyped using KASPTM SNP method. Levels of plasma soluble MICA (sMICA) were measured in 132 HCC, 90 LC patients and in 78 controls. Results. Genotyping of MICA rs2596542 showed that G/G genotype was significantly more frequent in HCC than in controls and in HCC than in LC patients. As for MICA rs2596538 allele C and C/C genotype were significantly more frequent in HCC than in controls …

Liver and Statins: A Critical Appraisal of the Evidence.

2019

Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) represent an important cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Statins are a class of drugs whose main adverse effects are drug-induced liver injury (DILI) and myopathy. Some of these may be predictable, due to their pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties, while others, unfortunately, are idiosyncratic. Genetic factors may also influence patient susceptibility to DILI and myopathy in the case of statins. This review will first discuss the role of statins in cardiovascular disease treatment and prevention and the underlying mechanisms of action. Furthermore, to explore the susceptibility of statin-induced adverse events such as myopathy and hepatoto…
