Quantum beats from dressed three-level atoms
1983
Abstract By extending a previously developed unitary transformation technique to dress three-level atoms by a strong driving radiation field, we show that quantum beats can be induced by the presence of the driving field also when the decay channels lead from a singlet to a doublet of lower energy. A qualitative explanation of this effect is presented, which is based on the quantum theory of measurement.
Chapter 23. Singlet Order in Heteronuclear Spin Systems
2020
The concept of heteronuclear Long-Lived spin States (LLSs) is introduced. In the simplest case of a pair of heteronuclei, such states are given by the singlet order of the spin pair, which can be efficiently sustained under Zero or Ultra-Low Field (ZULF) conditions. Here we describe two possible ways of detecting long-lived singlet order of heteronuclei: detection at ZULF conditions and NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) detection at high field utilising fast field-cycling. A theoretical description of the underlying spin dynamics is presented for both cases; the discussion is supported by experimental examples of LLSs in 13CH groups. The generality of these phenomena is discussed, as well as…
Detection of Interstitial Oxygen Molecules in SiO2Glass by a Direct Photoexcitation of the Infrared Luminescence of SingletO2
1996
The presence of interstitial oxygen molecules in glassy ${\mathrm{SiO}}_{2}$ has been demonstrated directly by 1064.1 nm $({\ensuremath{\nu}}^{\ensuremath{'}\ensuremath{'}}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}0)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}({\ensuremath{\nu}}^{\ensuremath{'}}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}1)$ excitation of the forbidden ${O}_{2}$ molecule $^{1}\ensuremath{\Delta}_{g}({\ensuremath{\nu}}^{\ensuremath{'}}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}0)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}^{3}\ensuremath{\Sigma}_{g}({\ensuremath{\nu}}^{\ensuremath{'}\ensuremath{'}}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}0)$ luminescence transition at 1272 nm in S…
Some Properties of Massless Particles in Arbitrary Dimensions
1998
Various properties of two kinds of massless representations of the n-conformal (or (n+1)-De Sitter) group [Formula: see text] are investigated for n≥2. It is found that, for space-time dimensions n≥3, the situation is quite similar to the one of the n=4 case for Sn-massless representations of the n-De Sitter group [Formula: see text]. These representations are the restrictions of the singletons of [Formula: see text]. The main difference is that they are not contained in the tensor product of two UIRs with the same sign of energy when n>4, whereas it is the case for another kind of massless representations. Finally some examples of Gupta–Bleuler triplets are given for arbitrary spin and…
Ground-state properties of generalized Heisenberg chains with composite spin.
1988
We consider in detail the ground-state properties of recently introduced generalized Heisenberg models which can have several spin operators at each site and which interpolate smoothly between Heisenberg chains of different spin lengths. We show that the mappings to field-theoretical models used to describe the critical properties of the Heisenberg model remain valid in the composite-spin model. In models which interpolate between the spin-(1/2 and the spin-1 behavior, these mappings predict an extended singlet phase around the isotropic antiferromagnetic point whenever the models move away from the spin-(1/2 point. Numerical calculations on finite chains seem to confirm the existence of th…
a 0 (980)− f 0 (980) mixing in χ c1 → π 0 f 0 (980)→ π 0 π + π − and χ c1 → π 0 a 0 (980)→ π 0 π 0 η
2017
Abstract We study the isospin breaking in the reactions χ c 1 → π 0 π + π − and χ c 1 → π 0 π 0 η and its relation to the a 0 ( 980 ) − f 0 ( 980 ) mixing, which was measured by the BESIII Collaboration. We show that the same theoretical model previously developed to study the χ c 1 → η π + π − reaction (also measured by BESIII), and further explored in the predictions to the η c → η π + π − , can be successfully employed in the present study. We assume that the χ c 1 behaves as an S U ( 3 ) singlet to find the weight in which trios of pseudoscalars are created, followed by the final state interaction of pairs of mesons to describe how the a 0 ( 980 ) and f 0 ( 980 ) are dynamically generat…
Neutral heavy lepton signatures at the Z0 peak
1990
Abstract Gauge singlet Neutral Heavy Leptons (NHL) arise in many extensions of the standard electroweak theory such as superstring inspired models and their existence may be related to the observed smallness of the neutrino masses. Existing limits on such particles are still fairly poor. A brief discussion is given of the signatures arising from their production through Z 0 → N + ν or Z 0 → N + ν and their subsequent decays within different models. Taking into account the expected luminosities and typical detector efficiencies of the different LEP/SLC experiments one concludes that these may either discover isosinglets or else substantially improve and extend present limits on their mass an…
Flavour-violating charged lepton decays in seesaw-type models
1994
Analytic expressions of lepton-flavour- and lepton-number-violating decays of charged leptons are derived in the context of general $SU(2)_L\otimes U(1)_Y$ seesaw scenarios that are motivated by grand unified theories (GUT's) or superstring models, in which left-handed and/or right-handed neutral singlets are present. Possible constraints imposed by cosmology and low-energy data are briefly discussed. The violation of the decoupling theorem in flavour-dependent graphs due to the presence of heavy neutral leptons of Dirac or Majorana nature is emphasized. Numerical estimates reveal that the decays $\tau^-\to e^-e^-e^+$ or $\tau^-\to e^-\mu^-\mu^+$ can be as large as $\sim 10^{-6}$, which may…
Observable Majoron emission in neutrinoless double beta decay
1992
We consider a class of simplest Majoron models where neutrino- majoron couplings can be in the range $g \sim 10^{-5}-10^{-3}$ leading to the observability of neutrinoless double beta decay with majoron emission. The majoron is a singlet of the electroweak gauge symmetry, thus avoiding conflict with the LEP data on Z decay, which rules out the triplet and doublet majoron models.
Evidence for the flavor singlet axial anomaly related effects in phi meson electromagnetic production at large momentum transfers
2001
The gluonic contributions to the conventional PCAC formulas due to flavor singlet axial anomaly have been instrumental in explaining the mass of the $\eta^{\prime}$ and providing a plausible explanation for solving the spin crisis. We show that they also play an important role in the description of photo- and electroproduction of vector mesons at low energy and high momentum transfers. We calculate the contributions of this type to $\phi$ meson electromagnetic production in a model, which contains also a soft pomeron, and find agreement with recent CLAS data.
