The incidence of mycosis fungoides (MF) is low, and the aetiology of the disease is unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate whether wine consumption protects against the disease and whether smoking constitutes a risk factor. This paper is part of the European Rare Cancers Study that tries to determine the risk factors for seven selective rare cancers, including mycosis fungoides, involved in the development of cancer. The aim of this study was to determine if primary cutaneous melanomas in hidden anatomical sites were associated with thicker tumours. Retrospective medical data of 829 patients with melanomas diagnosed at our centre between January 1976 and July 1998 were recorded from our database. Three groups were defined according to the anatomical site of the primary melanoma: (1) visible areas (group 1: 493 patients); (2) visible areas only to the patients or to their partners in privacy (group 2: 281 patients); and (3) hidden areas (group 3: 55 patients). It is not easy to reach a differential diagnosis between keratoacanthoma (KA) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and furthermore there is still considerable discussion about the relationship of these 2 tumors with immunity. To facilitate such a diagnosis, we assessed the Glut-1 antibody, reported to be strongly and diffusely expressed in SCC but never assessed in KA. We studied 43 lesions of immunocompetent patients: 17 SCCs, 13 typical KAs (tKAs), and 13 atypical KAs (aKAs), with histologic features of SCC in less than 30% of the lesions. Spontaneous regression of multiple melanocytic nevi after melanoma: report of 3 cases.

Complete spontaneous regression of multiple melanocytic nevi after melanoma is an extremely rare phenomenon. We report 3 cases of patients with a history of melanoma that showed regression of almost all melanocytic nevi over time. One of the patients had 2 simultaneous primary cutaneous melanomas without metastasis. In the other 2 patients, regression of the melanocytic nevi was seen after the development of metastasis in lymph nodes. These patients had spontaneously developed an efficient immune response against melanocytes, and they would represent paradigmatic examples of the spontaneous immune responses in melanoma patients. Subjects and methods: A total of 258 cases (131 females, 127 males) of neurofibromatosis type 1 were screened between 1994 and 2004 in our Dermatology Department. Abstract Primitive nonneural granular cell tumor of the skin was first described by LeBoit et al in 1991 as "primitive polypoid granular cell tumor." Few cases have been reported to date, all being polypoid or deep well-delimited lesions and formed by large spindle or polygonal granular cells with moderate nuclear atypia and increased mitotic activity. This granular cell population does not have a Schwannian, myogenic, melanocytic, fibroblastic, histiocytic, or epithelial differentiation. The term "cutaneous lymphadenoma" was coined in this journal for an unusual lymphoepithelial cutaneous adnexal neoplasm, possibly with immature pilosebaceous differentiation. Some authors further proposed that cutaneous lymphadenoma was an adamantinoid trichoblastoma. However, although a hair follicle differentiation is widely accepted, the fact that this is a lymphoepithelial tumor is not appropriately explained by the trichoblastoma hypothesis.
