Reconfigurable dualband antenna module with integrated high voltage charge pump and digital analog converter

Integration of a reconfigurable antenna module for handheld applications employing a set of novel technologies is demonstrated. A low profile dualband hybrid dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) based on glass-ceramics and a tunable matching network (TMN) based on ferroelectric varactors with a maximum biasing of 90V form a reconfigurable antenna module. The control of the antenna module is performed by a 120V CMOS high voltage (HV) charge pump with an 8-bit digital analog (D/A) converter generated from a 3.7V battery. Bringing Plasmonics Into CMOS Photonic Foundries: Aluminum Plasmonics on Si$_{3}$N$_{4}$ for Biosensing Applications

We present a technology platform supported by a new process design kit (PDK) that integrates two types of aluminum plasmonic waveguides with Si $_{3}$ N $_{4}$ photonics towards CMOS-compatible plasmo-photonic integrated circuits for sensing applications. More specifically, we demonstrate the fabrication of aluminum slot waveguide via e-beam lithography (EBL) on top of the Si $_{3}$ N $_{4}$ waveguide and an optimized fabrication process of aluminum plasmonic stripe waveguides within a CMOS foundry using EBL. Integrated Optical Technique for Detection of Electro-Optical Non-Linearities in Thin Films

A simple method for detection of electro-optical non-linearities in thin films is presented. The method involves an easily fabricated structure and a little practice in integrated optical techniques. It is also possible to detect small induced variations of refractive index, using lower voltage with respect to those applied in a conventional Kerr cell. We have sucessfully tested our method using two different polymer materials as thin films. In both of these we have observed an induced ?n ? 3 10?5 with an electric field of 60 V/?, with a response time round about 300 nsec. Halide perovskites have been gaining considerable attention recently for use in light-emitting applications, due to their bandgap tunability, color purity and low cost fabrication methods. However, current fabrication techniques limit the processing to small-area devices. Here, we show that a facile N 2 gas-quenching technique can be used to make methylammonium lead bromide-based perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) with a peak luminance of 6600 cd m −2 and a current efficiency of 7.0 cd A −1 . We have fabricated a multislotted optical nanoresonator with several spatial field distributions which are all addressable by the wavelength. The reported structure consists in an array of evanescently coupled single mode photonic crystal nanocavities. Photonic transfer through subwavelength optical waveguides

Optical tunneling effect through dielectric junctions with subwavelength transverse sizes has been demonstrated some years ago. In this letter, we demonstrate how similar effects can be exploited to perform photonic transfer through a subwavelength optical wave guide (SOW) by structuring its optical index along the direction of propagation. The optical transmittance of the SOW is computed self-consistently in direct space through the numerical solution of a Dyson equation. A concise overview of new optical properties of dense nonequilibrium plasma formed on the solid state target boundary is given. In this chapter, we describe phenomena such as the third harmonic generation in the skin layer, collisionless electron heating in the high frequency skin-effect regime, absorption, and reflection and transmission of radiation by a plasma with anisotropic electron distribution.

Self-care and total care: the twofold return of care in twentieth-century thought

The paper studies two fundamentally different forms in which the concept of care makes its comeback in twentieth-century thought. We make use of a distinction made by Peter Sloterdijk, who argues that the ancient and medieval ‘ascetic’ ideal of self-enhancement through practice has re-emerged in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, particularly in the form of a rehabilitation of the Hellenistic notion of self-care (epimeleia heautou) in Michel Foucault’s late ethics.
