Superchiral Pd 3 L 6 Coordination Complex and Its Reversible Structural Conversion into Pd 3 L 3 Cl 6 Metallocycles

2015

Large, non-symmetrical, inherently chiral bispyridyl ligand L derived from natural ursodeoxycholic bile acid was used for square-planar coordination of tetravalent Pd(II) , yielding the cationic single enantiomer of superchiral coordination complex 1 Pd3 L6 containing 60 well-defined chiral centers in its flower-like structure. Complex 1 can readily be transformed by addition of chloride into a smaller enantiomerically pure cyclic trimer 2 Pd3 L3 Cl6 containing 30 chiral centers. This transformation is reversible and can be restored by the addition of silver cations. Furthermore, a mixture of two constitutional isomers of trimer, 2 and 2', and dimer, 3 and 3', can be obtained directly from …

Flexible Chirality in Self-Assembled N-Annulated Perylenedicarboxamides.

2017

N-annulated perylenedicarboxamides 1-3 form supramolecular polymers with a strong tendency to aggregate. The bundles of fibers formed generate a spontaneous anisotropy that conditions the chiroptical features of the described molecules in solution; a strong linear dichroism effect accompanies the circular dichroism (CD) outcome. There is no influence of the point chirality existing at the side chains of 1 and 2, and these molecules present the same chiroptical features as achiral 3. Mechanical rotary stirring increases the CD response and the sign of the dichroic signal changes with the stirring direction. Theoretical calculations indicate that the self-assembly of 1-3 in helical columnar s…

Conformational investigation of α,β-dehydropeptides VII*. Conformation of Ac-Pro-ΔAla-NHCH3 and Ac-Pro-(E)-ΔAbu-NHCH3: comparison with (Z)-substitute…

2009

The crystal structure and solution conformation of Ac-Pro-deltaAla-NHCH3 and the solution conformation of Ac-Pro-(E)-deltaAbu-NHCH3 were investigated by X-ray diffraction method and NMR, FTIR and CD spectroscopies. Ac-Pro-deltaAla-NHCH3 adopts an extended-coil conformation in the crystalline state, with all-trans peptide bonds and the deltaAla residue being in a C5 form, phi(1)=-71.4(4), psi(1)=-16.8(4), phi(2)= -178.4(3) and psi(2)= 172.4(3) degrees. In inert solvents the peptide also assumes the C5 conformation, but a gamma-turn on the Pro residue cannot be ruled out. In these solvents Ac-Pro-(E)-deltaAbu-NHCH3 accommodates a beta(II)-turn, but a minor conformer with a nearly planar dispo…

Metabolic effects of omega-3 fatty acids.

2001

Some metabolic effects of dietary marine oils, or of dietary eicosapentaenoic or docosahexaenoic acid are reviewed. It is pointed out that docosahexaenoic acid appears more effective as regards induction of peroxisomal beta-oxidation. Similarly, docosahexaenoic appears more powerful in terms of suppression of hepatic delta9-desaturase activity and mRNA-levels. The potential inhibitory effect of polyunsaturated fatty acids, particularly docosahexaenoic acid, on mitochondrial beta-oxidation is discussed. Experiments with rats suggesting that the hypolipidaemic response of eicosapentaenoic acid is more marked when the fatty acid was given to fed rats, as compared to fasted rats, are discussed.

Temperature- and Light-Responsive Polyacrylamides Prepared by a Double Polymer Analogous Reaction of Activated Ester Polymers

2009

Two different series of polyacrylamides containing different amounts of salicylideneaniline moieties have been synthesized via a double polymer analogous reaction of poly(pentafluorophenyl acrylate) (PPFPA). All copolymers were designed to exhibit a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) in aqueous solution, which was dependent on (i) the amount of incorporated chromophoric salicylideneaniline groups and (ii) the isomerization state of the respective salicylideneaniline group. Higher LCST values were measured for UV-irradiated solutions of the copolymers in comparison to the nonirradiated copolymer solutions. A maximum difference in the LCST of up to 13 °C was found for poly(N-cycloprop…

Influence of the process variables on the product distribution and catalyst decay during cracking of paraffins

1986

Abstract The influence of the partial pressure of the hydrocarbon, reaction temperature, time on stream and the presence of olefins on the product distribution and the kinetics and decay during the cracking of n-heptane on an REHY zeolite were studied. It was found that the isomerization to cracking ratio depends on the hydrocarbon partial pressure. The active sites for cracking and isomerization are not the same and those for cracking decay faster, the selectivity changing with the degree of decay of the zeolite. The protolytic to β-cracking ratio, and therefore the paraffin to olefin ratio, are a function of the partial pressure of n-heptane. Both reactants and products have a marked infl…

Straightforward Stereoselective Access to Cyclic Peptidomimetics

2009

The preparation of cyclic dipeptide mimetics from chiral imino lactones derived from (R)-phenylglycinol is described. Key steps of the synthetic route included the fully stereoselective construction of a quaternary center, the formation of six-, seven-, or eight-membered lactams by means of an RCM cyclization, and the introduction of a new amino group within the lactam ring. The synthesis of a tripeptide mimetic is also reported.

Cyclic fatty acid monomers : synthesis and characterization of methyl w-(2-alkylcyclopentyl) alkenoates and alkanoates

1988

Abstract Some 1,2-disubstituted cyclopentanes were synthesized. These were methyl 9-(2-butyl-cyclopentyl)-8-nonenoate, methyl 7-(2-hexyl-cyclopentyl)-6-heptenoate and methyl 5-(2-octyl-cyclopentyl)-4-pentenoate and their corresponding alkanoates. The synthesis involved a Michael addition of alkylmagnesium bromide to an unsaturated cyclic ester. The resulting cis and trans ethyl 2-alkylcyclopentane carboxylate were further converted to the alcohols then to the aldehydes. The aldehydes were condensed with the ylide derived from the (ω-carboxyalkyl)-triphenylphosphonium bromide and methylsulfinylmethide in DMSO to give unsaturated C18 cyclic fatty acid monomers. These cyclic fatty acids were f…

1-Cycloundecen-3-in

1988

Assays of Proteasome-Dependent Cleavage Products

2005

The degradation of misfolded, aged, or no longer needed cytosolic proteins depends largely on the ubiquitin-proteasome system. Proteasomes degrade their substrates into fragments of 3-20 amino acids. Human 20S proteasomes can be purified from human erythrocytes by batch adsorption to DEAE-cellulose, ammonium sulfate precipitation, anion-exchange fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC), and glycerol density gradient ultracentrifugation. 20S proteasomes purified by this method are suitable for the in vitro digestion of synthetic peptides as well as full-length proteins. The degradation products produced by proteasomes are separated by reversed-phase HPLC using an acetonitrile gradient. The …
