Dissection of C1q Capability of Interacting with IgG
1997
Abstract C1q-bearing immune complexes have been observed in diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and human immunodeficiency virus infection-associated neuropathy. For the purpose of understanding better the phenomenon of C1q-bearing immune complexes, we investigated the constancy of the C1q-IgG interaction. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was developed in which wells were coated with IgG to mimic antigen-complexed IgG. Serial dilutions of C1q were applied for distinct time intervals, and bound C1q was detected either directly or after exposure to one of several elution buffers. Our results show that a part of C1q attached to IgG forms a tight association that is not reversible under t…
Inhibition of neuronally mediated secretion in rat colonic mucosa by prostaglandin D2
1992
Abstract The effect of prostaglandin D 2 (PGD 2 ) on ion transport across the mucosa of the descending colon was studied in rats. PGD 2 dose-dependently decreased baseline short-circuit current of mucosa-submucosal preparations mounted either in the Ussing chamber or mounted as an everted sac. However, with the everted sac technique, the tissue was about 1000 times more sensitive to PGD 2 . Concomitant with the decrease in short-circuit current, PGD 2 increased the mucosal-to-serosal fluxes of sodium and chloride and decreased the serosal-tomucosal flux of chloride. PGD 2 inhibited the secretory action of the PGI 2 analogue iloprost, PGD 2α , and neurotensin. The action of these secretagogu…
Efficacy of Clove Essential Oil an Sodium Bicarbonate to Control Powdwry Mildew and Grey Mould in the Strawberry Crops
2010
Straberry growning in greenhouse is frequently affected by diseases which are controlled by means of chemical products. In order to find an alternative to synthetic fungicides, the antifungal activity of clove essential oil and Sodium bicarbonate were tested to control powdery mildew (causal agent Oìdium fragaria (Harz.)and grey mould and grey mould (Botrytis cinerea Pers.) "in vitro" and in planta essays "In vitro" essay the inhibition efficacy of natural substances was evaluated on O.fragariae conidial germination and on B. cinerea mycelial growth. The results showed a consistent fungicidal activity in all concentrations tested. In planta essay, treatments were carried out in greenhouse on…
Effect of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) on stress response in the Mediterranean mussel (Mytilus Galloprovincialis): Regulatory volumedecrease (Rvd) an…
2014
In this study the effects of an anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), are assessed on the Mediterranean mussel (. Mytilus galloprovincialis), exposed for 18 days at a concentration ranging from 0.1. mg/l to 1. mg/l. The effects are monitored using biomarkers related to stress response, such as regulatory volume decrease (RVD), and to oxidative stress, such as reactive oxygen species (ROS), endogenous antioxidant systems and Hsp70 levels. The results demonstrate that cells from the digestive gland of M. galloprovincialis, exposed to SDS were not able to perform the RVD owing to osmotic stress. Further, SDS causes oxidative stress in treated organisms, as demonstrated by the incre…
Analysis of Operational Parameters in Acid and Base Production Using an Electrodialysis with Bipolar Membranes Pilot Plant
2023
In agreement with the Water Framework Directive, Circular Economy and European Union (EU) Green Deal packages, the EU-funded WATER-MINING project aims to validate next-generation water resource solutions at the pre-commercial demonstration scale in order to provide water management and recovery of valuable materials from alternative sources. In the framework of the WATER-MINING project, desalination brines from the Lampedusa (Italy) seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) plant will be used to produce freshwater and recover valuable salts by integrating different technologies. In particular, electrodialysis with bipolar membranes (EDBM) will be used to produce chemicals (NaOH and HCl). A novel EDBM…
LE IPERNATRIEMIE NELL’ANZIANO
2015
Central obesity and hypertension: Pathophysiologic role of renal haemodynamics and function
1995
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the role of alterations in renal haemodynamics and function and in plasma renin activity on obesity-induced hypertension. DESIGN: Renal haemodynamics and function, salt-regulating hormones and structural cardiac parameters were evaluated in 20 lean normotensives and in 64 obese subjects with central or peripheral fat distribution, 43 of them were normotensives and 21 of them were hypertensives. Obesity and central fat distribution were defined according to sex-specific 85th percentile respectively of Body Mass Index (BMI) and Waist to Hip Ratio (WHR). MEASUREMENTS: Serum immunoreactive insulin (IRI), plasma renin activity (PRA), plasma aldosterone (PA), microalbumi…
RENAL SALT WASTING: UNA SINDROME DA INAPPROPRIATA SECREZIONE DI URODILATINA? UNO STUDIO PILOTA
2022
Hastening of wound healing of mucosa by means of aminoacids combined to sodium hyaluronate after oral biopsy: an open trial.
2014
Sodium hyaluronate has been widely used in order to promote wound healing in oral cavity for its anti-inflammatory effects. Aim of this clinical trial was to evaluate the efficacy of aminoacids added to topical sodium hyaluronate, in minor oral surgery. After surgery by means of Quantic molecular resonance scalpel, in 27 patients a gel with sodium hyaluronate has been applied directly on the surgical wound, in order to favorite healing by secondary intention. Furthermore, gel has been applied 3-4times/day, after meals and oral hygiene. Hemostatic effect, edema and pain symptoms by VAS (Visual Analogue Scale;0-100), and clinical healing (full, partial, absent) have been evaluated at T#1(2hrs…
Selective and Reversible Fluorescence Marking of SH-Lysozyme with Vinyl Sulfones The SH groups of SH-lysozyme as a model substance are selectively bl…
