International audience; The formation of 2D arrays of three small icosahedral RNA viruses with known 3D structures (tomato bushy stunt virus, turnip yellow mosaic virus and bromegrass mosaic virus) has been investigated to determine the role of each component of a negative staining solution containing ammonium molybdate and polyethylene glycol. Virion association was monitored by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and virus array formation was visualised by conventional transmission electron microscopy and cryo-electron microscopy after negative staining. Objective: We investigated whether potato consumption (including fried and unfried potatoes) is associated with increased premature mortality risk in a North American cohort. Design: A longitudinal analysis included 4440 participants aged 45-79 y at baseline with an 8-y follow-up from the Osteoarthritis Initiative cohort study. We characterized the changes in cell-wall hemicellulosic polysaccharides and the hemicellulose-degrading enzymes associated with apple and tomato fruits infected by Penicillium expansum. Our results showed a reduction in the molecular mass of hemicelluloses, with this reduction being particularly notable in the xyloglucan associated with P. expansum infection. The activation of fungal beta-glucanases was also highlighted. Fruit xyloglucan endotransglucosylase/hydrolase (XTH)-specific activity decreased drastically during the infection process in both apple and tomato fruits.
