Polymorphism and the glasslike state of cyanide mixed crystals: A mesoscopic problem.
1990
The martensitic aspect of the structural phase transitions of the alkali cyanides and their solid solutions with the alkali halides is discussed. It is suggested that the polymorphism is intimately connected with the problem of mesoscopic transformation strains. At intermediate CN concentrations a competition between glasslike inhomogeneous strains, modulated strains, and ferroelastic strains is observed.
Quantum chemical modelling of perovskite solid solutions
2000
In line with our previous study (Eglitis R I et al 1998 J. Phys.: Condens. Matter 10 6271) for a single Nb impurity and Nb clusters in KTaO3 we present here the results of calculations for a series of perovskite KNbx Ta 1−x O3 (KTN) solid solutions (x = 0, 0.125, 0.25, 0.75, and 1). The quantum chemical method of the intermediate neglect of the differential overlap (INDO) combined with the large unit cell (LUC) periodic model is used. According to the INDO calculations, Nb impurity becomes off-centre in KTaO3 already at the lowest studied Nb concentration. Its off-centre displacement is in a good agreement with XAFS measurements. We compare our results with previous FP-LMTO calculations. Pe…
Photoelectrochemical study of passive films on stainless steel in neutral solutions
1991
Abstract Passive films formed on AISI 304 stainless steel in neutral solutions are studied using photoelectrochemical technique. Photocurrents were investigated as a function of the wavelength of the incident light, the electrode potential and the time. The results of the measurements together with capacity measurements indicate that the passive film on AISI 304 shows characteristics of a highly doped amorphous or highly disordered n-type semiconductor. The potential dependence of the optical gap values and of the photocurrent transients can be interpreted assuming that the passive film is an iron-chromium oxide solid solution.
Photoelectrical Properties of the SBN Relaxor Ceramics in the Range of the Broad Phase Transition
2014
AbstractA study of the effects of white light on photocurrent kinetics and the low and infra-low frequency relaxation of polarization in the barium-strontium niobate SBN‑75 ceramics is reported. It is found that at a low intensity illumination in the range of the relaxor phase the space charge is mainly responsible for manifestation of photo-electrical properties of SBN-75 ceramics.
Excitation and emission spectra of LaInO3-based solid solutions doped with Sm3+, Sb3+
2017
Abstract X-ray analysis showed that all the ceramic samples of La 1- x Sm x InO 3 (0.010≤ x ≤0.025) solid solutions were single-phased but the samples of nominal composition of LaIn 0.98 Sb 0.02 O 3 , La 0.98 Sm 0.02 In 0.98 Sb 0.02 O 3 contained a small amount of impurity phase of LaSbO 3 -based solid solutions. It was established that La 0.98 Sm 0.02 InO 3 solid solution under the excitation of 275 nm and 320 nm exhibits the strongest photoluminescence among La 1- x Sm x InO 3 solid solutions with 0.010≤ x ≤0.025. Photoluminescence bands located in wavelength ranges of 550–580 nm, 585–625 nm and 630–680 nm exhibit 2–3 clear maxima each. According to the locations of these maxima we calcul…
Short-lived luminescence of mixed silver halides
1993
Abstract Two kinds of excitonic luminescence were investigated for the entire series of solid solutions, AgBr1−xClx, (0 ⪕ x ⪕ 1). The time-resolved spectra observed around 2.5 eV after both pulsed high-power electron beam and N2-laser irradiations are analyzed in terms of the diffusion-controlled recombination of Frenkel defects Ag0i and Ag2+V-c. It is shown that the effective activation energy of Ag0i migration is a linear function of the composition x; and predominantly two kinds of nearest neighbours contribute to this process. The position of maximum of the excitonic molecule luminescence found in mixed monocrystals and fibers reveals a distinctive dependence on the composition x. Its a…

Abstract Single-phased La 0.95 Ln 0.05 InO 3 ( Ln – Dy, Ho), La 0.90 Dy 0.05 Ho 0.05 InO 3 , LaInO 3 ceramic samples as well as the La 0.95 Ln 0.05 In 0.98 Sb 0.02 O 3 ( Ln – Dy, Ho), La 0.90 Dy 0.05 Ho 0.05 In 0.98 Sb 0.02 O 3 , LaIn 0.98 Sb 0.02 O 3 samples with additional impurity LaSbO 3 phase were prepared by solid-state reactions method. Their excitation and photoluminescence (PL) spectra were measured at room temperature. It was established that PL bands intensity of spectra obtained for samples of nominal composition La 0.95 Dy 0.05 In 0.98 Sb 0.02 O 3 , La 0.95 Ho 0.05 In 0.98 Sb 0.02 O 3 , La 0.90 Dy 0.05 Ho 0.05 In 0.98 Sb 0.02 O 3 is much higher than that of single-phase La 0.95…
Luminescence and optical spectroscopy of charge transfer processes in solid solutions Ni Mg1−O and Ni Zn1−O
2016
Abstract In this work photoluminescence spectra for Ni c Mg 1− c O and Ni x Zn 1− x O solid solutions with the rock-salt crystal structure were obtained under synchrotron radiation excitation. Periodical peaks in the photoluminescence excitation spectrum of Ni c Mg 1− c O ( c =0.008) have been discovered for a wide-gap oxide doped with 3d impurities for the first time. They can be considered as LO phonon repetitions of the narrow zero phonon line resulted from the optical transitions into the p–d charge transfer exciton [d 9 h] state. A close coincidence in energy of different peculiarities in the optical absorption and photoluminescence excitation spectra for the Ni c Mg 1− c O and Ni x Zn…
Growth and optical properties of transition metal oxides single crystal solid solutions
2007
Abstract NiO, CoO, MnO single crystals and single crystal solid solutions of Ni c Mg 1− c O, Co c Mg 1− c O and Mn c Mg 1− c O were grown by the method of chemical transport reaction (the “sandwich” technique). The nature of the observed absorption and luminescence bands is explained in terms of the electronic transition of bivalent nickel, cobalt and manganese. The fine structure of the observed bands in NiO and MnO are connected to the pure exciton transition and to the exciton-magnon excitation.
Enhanced ferroelectric phase-transition temperature in perovskite-based solid solutions
2004
We explain how the phenomena of ferroelectric phase transition temperature ${T}_{c}$ enhancement beyond the end members in perovskite solid solution such as $\mathrm{Bi}M{\mathrm{O}}_{3}\text{\ensuremath{-}}{\mathrm{PbTiO}}_{3}$ ($M=\mathrm{Sc}$, In, etc.) is related to nonlinear and spatial correlation effects. The explanation is based on the calculation of ${T}_{c}$ in the framework of our random field theory with additional account for nonlinear effects in the above substances. We show that the maximum of ${T}_{c}$ for certain ${\mathrm{PbTiO}}_{3}$ content takes place when coefficient of nonlinearity is positive, the value of this coefficient is found from best fit between theory and ex…
