Fifty Years of Mössbauer Spectroscopy in Solid State Research - Remarkable Achievements, Future Perspectives

2011

Mossbauer spectroscopy was founded more than fifty years ago based on an outstanding discovery by the young German physicist Rudolf Ludwig Mossbauer while working on his Ph.D. thesis. He discovered the recoilless nuclear resonance fluorescence of gamma radiation and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1961 as one of the youngest recipients of this most prestigious award. His discovery led to the development of a new technique for measurements of hyperfine interactions between nuclear moments and electromagnetic fields. This method, with highest sharpness of tuning of 10–13, yields information on valence state, symmetry, magnetic behavior, phase transition, lattice dynamics and other s…

Phosphorescent Pt II Systems Featuring Both 2,2′‐Dipyridylamine and 1,3,5‐Triazapentadiene Ligands

2014

The treatment of cis-[Pt(dpa)(RCN)2][SO3CF3]2 {dpa = 2,2′-dipyridylamine, R = Me, Et, CH2Ph, Ph; [2a–d](OTf)2} (OTf = SO3CF3) with 2 equiv. of N,N′-diphenylguanidine [NH=C(NHPh)2] in CH2Cl2 solutions at room temp. for 16 h gives [Pt(dpa){NH=C(R)NC(NHPh)=NPh}][SO3CF3] {[3a,b,d](OTf)} as the addition products and [Pt(dpa){NH=C(R)NHC(R)=NH}][SO3CF3]2 {[4a,b](OTf)2} as the tailoring products. The formulation of complexes [3a,b,d](OTf) and [4a,b](OTf)2 was supported by satisfactory C, H, and N elemental analyses and agreeable high-resolution ESI-MS, IR, and 1H (including 1H–1H COSY experiments) and 13C{1H} NMR data. The structures of all of the platinum species were determined by single-crystal …

Chloride ion impact on materials for light-emitting electrochemical cells

2013

Small quantities of Cl(-) ions result in dramatic reductions in the performance of ionic transition metal complexes in light-emitting electrochemical cells. Strong ion-pairing between aromatic protons and chloride has been established in both the solid state and solution. X-ray structural determination of 2{[Ir(ppy)2(bpy)][Cl]}·2CH2Cl2·[H3O]·Cl reveals the unusual nature of an impurity encountered in the preparation of [Ir(ppy)2(bpy)][PF6].

>3 + 1 = 6 + 2> In Cu(ii) coordination chemistry of 1H-pyrazole aza cryptands

2015

A polyazamacrocycle formed from two tris(2-aminoethyl)amine units connected by 1H-pyrazole units shows unique hexanuclear Cu(ii) complexes by combination of two binuclear Cu(ii) cryptand complexes through pyrazolate moieties belonging to both cryptands. The formation of these dimeric entities has been proven both in solution by potentiometric studies and mass spectroscopy and in the solid state by X-ray diffraction of crystals of three different batches of formulae [Cu6(H-3L)2(H2O)2](TsO)6·22H2O (2), [Cu6(H-3L)2(NO3)2](NO3)4·2H2O (3) and [Cu6(H-3L)2Cl2]Cl4·(C4H5N3O2)2·14.35H2O (4). The hexanuclear unit in 2 and 4 can be viewed like three magnetically independent binuclear complexes with J =…

Structure and Properties of One-Dimensional Heterobimetallic Polymers Containing Dicyanoaurate and Dirhodium(II) Fragments

2012

The synthesis and characterization of compound [Rh(2)(O(2)CEt)(4)(H(2)O)(2)] (1) and one-dimensional heterobimetallic polymers K(n){Rh(2)(O(2)CEt)(4)[Au(CN)(2)]}(n) (2) and K(n){Rh(2)(O(2)CMe)(4)[Au(CN)(2)]}(n)·4nH(2)O (3), constructed from dirhodiumtetracarboxylato units, [Rh(2)(O(2)CR)(4)](+), and dicyanoaurate, [Au(CN)(2)](-), fragments are described. In both compounds 2 and 3 the resulting polymeric chains are nonlinear and have in common similar structural parameters, although the solid state supramolecular arrangement is very different. These structural differences explain the fact that complex 2 displays aurophilic interactions while this type of interactions are absent in complex 3.…

syn ‐[2.2](1,3)Cyclophane durch doppelte Photocyclodimerisierung

1988

Comparative study of upper lip frenectomy with the CO2 laser versus the Er, Cr:YSGG laser

2012

Objectives: To compare upper lip frenulum reinsertion, bleeding, surgical time and surgical wound healing in frenectomies performed with the CO2 laser versus the Er, Cr:YSGG laser. Study design: A prospective study was carried out on 50 randomized pediatric patients who underwent rhomboidal resection of the upper lip frenulum with either the CO2 laser or the Er,Cr:YSGG laser. Twenty-five patients were assigned to each laser system. All patients were examined at 7, 14, 21 days and 4 months after the operation in order to assess the surgical wound healing. Results: Insertion of the frenulum, which was preoperatively located between the upper central incisors, migrated to the mucogingival junc…

Observability of the Risken–Nummedal–Graham–Haken instability in Nd:YAG lasers

2003

Multilongitudinal mode instability in ring Nd:YAG lasers is theoretically analyzed. After we review the way in which the standard two-level laser theory applies to this laser we extend the theoretical treatment to include transverse effects. We do this by taking into account the finite transverse section of the active medium and by assuming a Gaussian transverse distribution for the intracavity field. Finally we demonstrate that multimode emission develops whenever the intracavity field waist diameter is almost equal to the active rod diameter. We conclude that continuous-wave diode-pumped Nd:YAG lasers with low cavity losses are good candidates for the observation of the Risken–Nummedal–Gr…

Structural investigations on diorganotin and triorganotin(IV) phosphomycin derivatives.

2008

Abstract Four new diorganotin(IV), (R = Me, Bu), and triorganotin(IV), (R = Me, Ph), derivatives of the phosphomycin disodium salt antibiotic[(1R,2S)-1,2-epoxypropylphosphonate]Na2 have been synthesized and their solid state configuration studied by X-ray crystallography, FT-IR, Mossbauer, UV–Vis spectroscopies. The X-ray diffraction investigation, performed on the bis[trimethyltin(IV)]phosphomycin, showed that the coordination geometry at all the Sn atoms is trigonal bipyramidal. The structure of the complex forms an unusual polymeric zig-zag planar network. The FT-IR and the 119Sn Mossbauer studies supported the formation of trigonal bipyramidal (Tbp) molecular structures, both in the dio…
