Analysis of primary aliphatic short-chain monoamines by LC in water samples

2003

Abstract Several derivatization procedures with o-phthaldialdehyde-N-acetylcysteine (OPA-NAC) were compared for a rapid analysis of primary aliphatic short-chain monoamines in water samples by HPLC using a LiChorospher analytical separation column (100RP18 125 mm ×4  mm i.d., 5 μm). Both the solution and the solid-support assisted off-line derivatization on C18 SPE cartridges were inadequate options because of beginning degradation processes of the instable isoindol derivatives during their transfer to the analytical column. This problem was precluded with the on-column or solid-support assisted on-line derivatization. In the last mentioned procedure, the derivatization took place in a Hype…

D-Glucose as a Pentavalent Chiral Scaffold

2003

A novel carbohydrate-based scaffold for combinatorial chemistry has been developed. This scaffold allows the selective attachment of five different side chains, giving rise to products of enormous structural diversity. As a demonstration of its usefulness, a series of model compounds has been prepared in high purity and yield by multistep parallel synthesis on a solid phase. (© Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Combinatorial solid-phase synthesis using D-galactose as a chiral five-dimension-deversity scaffold

1999

Abstract All five hydroxy groups of galactose as the scaffold are used for selective coupling of side chains in a combinatorial methodology by application of a set of orthogonally stable protecting groups in combination with a thioglycoside anchor.

On the Measurement and Prediction of the Out-of-Plane Displacement Surrounding Cold-Expanded Holes

2010

Experimental measurements of the out-of-plane displacement surrounding cold-expanded holes in a 6082-T6 aluminum alloy were made with a 3D optical scanner using the technique of the encoded light-pattern projection in white light. The measured surface profiles have shown the thickness discontinuity along the hole edge due to the effect of the split in the sleeve. An analytical–numerical solution of the out-of-plane displacement is presented based on existing analytical models. Thus, the results given by the analytical model were then compared with the experimental data and with a finite element (FE) model that simulates the cold-expansion process. The location of the elastic–plastic boundar…

Studies on atomic layer deposition of IRMOF-8 thin films

2015

Deposition of IRMOF-8 thin films by atomic layer deposition was studied at 260–320 C. Zinc acetate and 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid were used as the precursors. The as-deposited amorphous films were crystallized in 70% relative humidity at room temperature resulting in an unknown phase with a large unit cell. An autoclave with dimethylformamide as the solvent was used to recrystallize the films into IRMOF-8 as confirmed by grazing incidence x-ray diffraction. The films were further characterized by high temperature x-ray diffraction (HTXRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), time-of-flight elastic recoil detection analysis (TOF-…

A new approach to the crystal growth of Hg1−xMnxTe by the cold travelling heater method (CTHM)

2001

Abstract In order to obtain crystals with a homogeneous composition and to reduce the Hg high pressure related to the temperature synthesis reaction between the components in elemental form, Hg 1− x Mn x Te bulk crystals were produced by the cold travelling heater method (CTHM). Following the technique initially proposed for the growth of CdHgTe by the Triboulet group, the feed material was a split ingot of two segments, one of HgTe and the other of MnTe, with cross-sectional areas chosen to establish the desired final composition. The growth was carried out at a temperature of 600°C and a rate of 2 mm/h. The Hg 1− x Mn x Te crystals have been characterised by scanning electron microscopy, …

Raman study of crystals

1997

In this work we present a polarized Raman study of single crystals for several values of the concentration made using different scattering geometries. The Raman spectra, composed of broad bands, have been fitted in accordance with a symmetry analysis which allowed us to assign the vibrational modes, and determine their frequencies and damping constants. The results are compatible with an average hexagonal symmetry for the solid solutions with x in the range . In each of the spectra we found two bands at about 590 and , probably associated with the existence of structures in the solid solutions.

A rare case of solution and solid state inter-conversion of two copper(II) dimers and a copper(II) chain

2011

Abstract Three Cu(II)-azido complexes of formula [Cu2L2(N3)2] (1), [Cu2L2(N3)2]·H2O (2) and [CuL(N3)]n (3) have been synthesized using the same tridentate Schiff base ligand HL (2-[(3-methylaminopropylimino)-methyl]-phenol), the condensation product of N-methyl-1,3-propanediamine and salicyldehyde). Compounds 1 and 2 are basal-apical μ-1,1 double azido bridged dimers. The dimeric structure of 1 is centrosymmetric but that of 2 is non-centrommetric. Compound 3 is a μ-1,1 single azido bridged 1D chain. The three complexes interconvert in solution and can be obtained in pure form by carefully controlling the synthetic conditions. Compound 2 undergoes an irreversible transformation to 1 upon de…

Future directions in solid state chemistry: report of the NSF-sponsored workshop

2002

Abstract A long-established area of scientific excellence in Europe, solid state chemistry has emerged in the US in the past two decades as a field experiencing rapid growth and development. At its core, it is an interdisciplinary melding of chemistry, physics, engineering, and materials science, as it focuses on the design, synthesis and structural characterization of new chemical compounds and characterization of their physical properties. As a consequence of this inherently interdisciplinary character, the solid state chemistry community is highly open to the influx of new ideas and directions. The inclusionary character of the field’s culture has been a significant factor in its continu…
