The role of travel motivations and social media use in consumer interactive behaviour: a uses and gratifications perspective

2020

This paper explores the influence of travel motivations and the gratification provided by social media in consumer stickiness to social media, intention to create user-generated content, and electronic word of mouth (eWOM) review adoption. The study follows a mixed-methods approach. First, a concept mapping study was undertaken to identify the main travel motivations and the gratifications provided by social media when consumers search for information on tourism destinations. A second study using structural equation modelling and SmartPLS 3.2.7 with a sample of 401 heavy users of social media showed the relationships between individual travel motivations and gratifications provided by socia…

Obstáculos à produtividade científica de professoras universitárias da área de Ciências da Saúde

2013

To discover the features associated with personal and professional lives of university teachers, in the area of health sciences in the “Comunidad Valenciana” for the period 2003-2007, to learn if they contribute to a greater or lesser scientific productivity. Were interviewed in depth 30 teachers aged between 30 and 60 years in order to identify factors that hamper productivity. Have more difficulties to publish scientific papers, teachers less productive. Represent obstacles: the labor problems, the difficulty to obtain science projects and to publish in certain journals, to balance teaching and research, care work in hospitals, the maternity and children. Although the two groups of large …

What is the impact of rerouting a cancer diagnosis from emergency presentation to GP referral on resource use and survival? Evidence from a populatio…

2018

Background Studies on alternative routes to diagnosis stimulated successful policy interventions reducing the number of emergency diagnoses and associated mortality risk. A dearth of evidence on the costs of such interventions might prevent new policies from achieving more ambitious targets. Methods We conducted a retrospective cohort study on the population of colorectal (88,051), breast (90,387), prostate (96,219), and lung (97,696) cancer patients diagnosed after a GP referral or an emergency presentation and reported in the Cancer Registry of England. Resource use and survival were compared 1 year before and 5 years after diagnosis (3 years for lung), including the costs of GP referrals…

APIS to extract information in social channels in educational context

2018

In this days the world is involved in the research and development of new resources, and methods that allow the use of new technologies fulfilling a goal that is the learning of education through the Web, thus using resources such as different APIs for different purposes. Taking into account the functionalities provided by the APIs, the objective was to obtain information about the different educational resources in the social channels of the Universidad Tecnica Particular de Loja (UTPL). The study of pervious APIs is a part of the project Use of Cloud Computing tools, Bodies of Knowledge and affective computing in the process of developing technological skills focused on problem solving of…

Exploring the construction of professional expertise in HRD: analysis of four HR developers’ work histories and career stories

2002

Explores the construction of professional expertise in HRD work through the examination of the careers of four individual HR developers who are employed as full‐time HRD personnel in various work organisations and already possess considerable experience of HRD work. A narrative approach to the development of professional expertise was applied and the building materials for professional expertise in HRD work retrospectively extracted from the developers’ formal work histories and career stories. The empirical data used consist of interviews with 20 full‐time HR developers working in large enterprises and governmental organisations in Finland. The present analysis is based on four career stor…

Human Resource Development Opportunities in Latvian Health Care Organization

2019

The aim of the research was to investigate the existing human resource management in a health care organization and develop guidelines for improvement, based on the analysis of the theory and empirical research results. In the research a leading health care organization in Latvia was selected. In total, the organization employs over 1300 people, including more than 600 doctors. The study analyzed in two departments: medical center and health center. Several research methods were applied, incl. SWOT analysis, survey and statistical data analysis. The results of the research indicate that employees lack knowledge and motivation that affects their development and career opportunities in the or…

INTERACTION BETWEEN PEDAGOGUE AND CHILD TO PROMOTE PLANNING SKILLS

2019

The goal of the pre-school competence-based education lies in the promotion of all areas of development – physical, social, emotional and cognitive, as well as helping children to acquire core competencies, including the ability to plan own activities. The research aims at theoretical and empirical study of opportunity to promote planning skills within interaction between child and pedagogue. When dealing with both daily and teacher-created problem situations, children are involved in decision-making, are trusted to be co-responsible for the decision made. By working together with an adult, child acquires planning skills, ability to achieve the goal set. To reveal the pedagogical problem of …

Long-term properties and end-of-life of polymers from renewable resources

2017

[EN] The long-term properties and end-of-life of polymers are not antagonist issues. They actually are inherently linked by the duality between durability and degradation. The control of the service-todisposal pathway at useful performance, along with low-impact disposal represents an added-value. Therefore, the routes of design, production, and discarding of bio-based polymers must be carefully strategized. In this sense, the combination of proper valorisation techniques, i.e. material, energetic and/ or biological at the most appropriate stage should be targeted. Thus, the consideration of the end-of-life of a material for a specific application, instead of the end-of-life of a material s…

Inovācijas, pētniecība, zinātne

2013

Quantum computing algorithms and peat extracts, a Chinese dictionary and skin stem cells, carbon nanowire switches and a catalogue of stars – the research results produced by the University of Latvia scientists are as varied as the directions of studies at the University of Latvia. Our goal is to provide science-based higher education in the key areas of consequence for Latvia’s people, economy, nature and public health, to make Latvia known in the world through our achievements in science and innovation. Over the past few years the research of the UL scientists has been extremely productive, largely due to the European Union funds to support graduate and doctoral students, new research gro…
