Abstract The lead-tin compounds o-Tol6PbSn, o-Tol3PbSnPh3 and Mes3PbSnPh3 have been synthesized from Li and halide precursors in THF/ether at low temperatures. The crystal structures of the S4 symmetric o-Tol4Pb and of the three isomorphous title compounds have been determined (d(SnSn) 2.883 (1), d (PbSn) 2.845 (2), d (PbPb) 2.895 (2), A). The long SnSn distance is in accordance with the Raman data for the pairs of p-Tol6/o-Tol6 substituents (ν(SnSn) 131/123, ν(PbSn) 114/114, ν(PbPb) 105/103 cm−1). An ab initio study of the relation between NMR chemical shifts and solid-state structures: hexabenzocoronene derivatives

The assignment of solid-state NMR spectra is studied by the use of model systems computed with ab initio methods. The investigated system is a hexabenzocoronene derivative, for which a T-like arrangement of dimer units is found in the solid-state structure. Here, a tetramer model is required to explain the intermolecular interactions influencing the spectrum, whereas a dimer model is found to be inadequate. For the tetramer model, agreement of the computed NMR spectrum with the experimental solid-state magic angle spinning MAS-NMR data is observed. New Tetrahydro-1,2,4,5-Tetrazinan-3-Ones and Oxoverdazyl Free Radicals

A series of tetrahydro-1,2,4,5-tetrazinan-3-ones have been prepared by the reaction of carbonic acid bis (1-methylhydrazide) with aromatic aldehydes. These were oxidised to oxoverdazyl free radicals and used immediately for ESR spectroscopy studies that indicate that the unpaired electron is delocalised over the verdazyl ring. The ESR spectra can be very well simulated considering hyperfine couplings with the four nitrogen atoms of the verdazyl ring and the six hydrogen atoms of the two methyl groups bonded to it.
Analysis of Organic Aerosols Using a Micro-Orifice Volatilization Impactor Coupled to an Atmospheric-Pressure Chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometer

We present the development and characterization of a combination of a micro-orifice volatilization impactor (MOVI) and an ion trap mass spectrometer (IT/MS) with an atmospheric-pressure chemical ionization (APCI) source. The MOVI is a multi-jet impactor with 100 nozzles, allowing the collection of aerosol particles by inertial impaction on a deposition plate. The pressure drop behind the nozzles is approximately 5%, resulting in a pressure of 96 kPa on the collection surface for ambient pressures of 101.3 kPa. International audience; The preparation of highly water-soluble and strongly fluorescent diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) dyes using an unusual taurine-like sulfonated linker has been achieved. Exchanging a phenyl for a thienyl substituent shifts the emission wavelength to near λ=600 nm. The free carboxylic acid group present in these new derivatives was readily activated and the dyes were subsequently covalently linked to a model protein (bovine serum albumin; BSA). The fundamental concept of phase discussed in this tutorial aimed at providing students with an explanation of the delays and processing parameters they may find in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) pulse programs. We consider the phase of radio-frequency pulses, receiver, and magnetization and how all these parameters are related to phases and offsets of signals in spectra.
