As in many other spectroscopic methods, it is necessary in Mossbauer spectroscopy to determine the positions, intensities or areas of the absorption and emission lines as accurately as possible. In the case of poorly resolved or complex hyperfine spectra due to different chemical species or several lattice sites in the sample it is not possible to evaluate the Mossbauer spectra just by hand. Mixed WO3/WS2 powders were prepared by oxidation of WS2. The physical properties of the samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy; they were strongly dependent upon the time and temperature of oxidation. The chemical state and the elemental distribution of the sample surface were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The photocatalytic results have showed that the aqueous suspensions of the mixed WO3/WS2 systems have significantly higher activities than pure WS2 and WO3 for the photodegradation of phenol. Cytotoxic Spirostane-Type Saponins from the Roots of Chlorophytum borivilianum

Four new spirostane-type saponins named borivilianosides E-H (1-4) were isolated from an ethanol extract of the roots of Chlorophytum borivilianum together with two known steroid saponins (5 and 6). The structures of 1-4 were elucidated using mainly 2D NMR spectroscopic techniques and mass spectrometry. The cytotoxicity of borivilianosides F (2), G (3), and H (4) and three known compounds was evaluated using two human colon cancer cell lines (HT-29 and HCT 116).

Control over chemical functionalization is a crucial point in the field of nanotechnology. Herein, we present the covalent functionalization of several carbon nanoforms (single-walled carbon nanotubes, double-walled carbon nanotubes, multi-walled carbon nanotubes and carbon nanohorns) by means of diphenyl dichalcogenides. These ones show different reactivity to the nanomaterials and are able to modify their electronic properties depending on the electronegativity of the functionalizing heteroatom. Chemical Reaction Monitoring Using Zero-Field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Enables Study of Heterogeneous Samples in Metal Containers

Abstract We demonstrate that heterogeneous/biphasic chemical reactions can be monitored with high spectroscopic resolution using zero‐field nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. This is possible because magnetic susceptibility broadening is negligible at ultralow magnetic fields. We show the two‐step hydrogenation of dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate with para‐enriched hydrogen gas in conventional glass NMR tubes, as well as in a titanium tube. The low frequency zero‐field NMR signals ensure that there is no significant signal attenuation arising from shielding by the electrically conductive sample container. FI-chemiluminometric study of thiazides by on-line photochemical reaction

The present manuscript deals with a simple and sensitive flow-injection method for the chemiluminescent determination of thiazides. The method is based on the on-line photodegradation and chemiluminescent determination of the resulting photo-fragments. The on-line photodegradation is performed in basic medium by using a photoreactor consisting of a 550 cm long x 0.8 mm ID piece of PTFE tubing helically coiled around an 8 W low-pressure mercury lamp. Three new 1,4-phenylenediacrylate bridged Mn(II) and Co(II) complexes of molecular formulas {[Mn2(ppda)(phen)4(H2O)2](ppda)2(H2O)} (1), {[Co(ppda)- (dpyo)(H2O)3]·4(H2O)}n (2), and {[Co(ppda)(bpe)]·(0.5H2O)}n (3) [ppda = 1,4- phenylenediacrylate; phen = 1,10-phenanthroline; dpyo = 4,4′-dipyridyl N,N′-dioxide; bpe = 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane] have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies, and low-temperature magnetic measurements. Vibronic Relaxation Pathways in Molecular Spin Qubit Na9[Ho(W5O18)2]·35H2O under Pressure

In order to explore how spectral sparsity and vibronic decoherence pathways can be controlled in a model qubit system with atomic clock transitions, we combined diamond anvil cell techniques with synchrotron-based far infrared spectroscopy and first-principles calculations to reveal the vibrational response of Na9[Ho(W5O18)2]·35H2O under compression. Because the hole in the phonon density of states acts to reduce the overlap between the phonons and f manifold excitations in this system, we postulated that pressure might move the HoO4 rocking, bending, and asymmetric stretching modes that couple with the MJ = ±5, ±2, and ±7 levels out of resonance, reducing their …
