Synthesis and characterization of some diorganotin(IV) complexes of Schiff bases derived from a non-protein amino acid. Crystal structures of {HO2CC6…

2008

Diorganotin(IV) complexes R2Sn(LH)2 (R = Me, nBu) and {[nBu2Sn(LH)]2O}2 (LH = 4-[(2Z)-(3-hydroxy-1-methyl-2-butenylidene)amino]benzoate and 4-[{(E)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)methylidene}mino]benzoate) have been reported. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, NMR (1H, 13C, 119Sn) and 119mSn Mossbauer spectroscopy. Crystal structures of a ligand {HO2CC6H4[NC(H)}{C(CH3)CH(CH3)-3-OH]-p} and one of its di-n-butyltin(IV) complexes (nBu2Sn{O2CC6H4[NC(H)}{C(CH3)CH(CH3)-3-OH]-p}2) were determined. The spectroscopic data suggest that R2Sn(LH)2 complexes have skew-trapezoidal bipyramidal structure while {[nBu2Sn(LH)]2O}2 complexes adopt a dimeric tetraorganodistannoxane structure in the…

2014

Abstract The acid–base properties of 1,5-bis(2-hydroxybenzaldehyde)carbohydrazone (H4L) and its thioanalogue 1,5-bis(2-hydroxybenzaldehyde)thiocarbohydrazone (H4LS) have been studied experimentally by pH-potentiometry and UV–Vis spectrophotometry and theoretically by using DFT methods. Copper(II) complexes [Cu2(HL)(DMSO)2(H2O)]NO3·H2O (1), [{Cu2(HL)(DMF)(H2O)}n][{Cu2(HL)(DMF)NO3}n](NO3)n (2), [Cu2(HL)(DMF)2(H2O)]HSO4·H2O (3), [Cu2(HL)(DMF)2(H2O)][Cu2(HL)(SO4)(H2O)(DMF)2]·2H2O (4) and [Cu4(HL)2(HSO4)(DMF)2]HSO4 (5), where H4L = 1,5-bis(2-hydroxybenzaldehyde)carbohydrazone, have been synthesised. Complexes 1–3 have been characterised by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, ESI mass spectromet…

Stereoselective synthesis and transformation of pinane-based 2-amino-1,3-diols

2021

A library of pinane-based 2-amino-1,3-diols was synthesised in a stereoselective manner. Isopinocarveol prepared from (−)-α-pinene was converted into condensed oxazolidin-2-one in two steps by carbamate formation followed by a stereoselective aminohydroxylation process. The relative stereochemistry of the pinane-fused oxazolidin-2-one was determined by 2D NMR and X-ray spectroscopic techniques. The regioisomeric spiro-oxazolidin-2-one was prepared in a similar way starting from the commercially available (1R)-(−)-myrtenol (10). The reduction or alkaline hydrolysis of the oxazolidines, followed by reductive alkylation resulted in primary and secondary 2-amino-1,3-diols, which underwent a reg…

Tunable Polarons in Bose-Einstein Condensates

2017

A toolbox for the quantum simulation of polarons in ultracold atoms is presented. Motivated by the impressive experimental advances in the area of ultracold atomic mixtures, we theoretically study the problem of ultracold atomic impurities immersed in a Bose-Einstein condensate mixture (BEC). The coupling between impurity and BEC gives rise to the formation of polarons whose mutual interaction can be effectively tuned using an external laser driving a quasi-resonant Raman transition between the BEC components. Our scheme allows one to change the effective interactions between polarons in different sites from attractive to zero. This is achieved by simply changing the intensity and the frequ…

Diagnostic Analyses for the Study of Materials, Technique and State of Preservation of a Gilt and Painted Leather of the XVIII Century

2013

Abstract In this study we report on the restoration work for the gilded and painted leather from the Sanctuary of the Santissimo Crocifisso di Papardura in Enna, Italy. The work started with a historical and stylistic examination of the artwork which dates back to 18th Century. The study of the leather and its decoration was deepened thanks to specific scientific analysis (such as XRF spectroscopy, Raman and SEM) in order to assure the integrity of the material during the restoration work. To this end, a diagnostic procedure was set up to provide a clear picture of constitutive materials (type of leather, silver leaf and pigments), technique, and state of preservation.

A survey on tubulin and arginine methyltransferase families sheds light on p. lividus embryo as model system for antiproliferative drug development

2019

Tubulins and microtubules (MTs) represent targets for taxane-based chemotherapy. To date, several lines of evidence suggest that effectiveness of compounds binding tubulin often relies on different post-translational modifications on tubulins. Among them, methylation was recently associated to drug resistance mechanisms impairing taxanes binding. The sea urchin is recognized as a research model in several fields including fertilization, embryo development and toxicology. To date, some &alpha

The use of local electrochemical probes and surface analysis methods to study the electrochemical behaviour and pitting corrosion of stainless steels

2007

Abstract In this paper, the electrochemical microcell technique is combined with ex situ (SIMS and XPS) and in situ (SVET) techniques to study the electrochemical behaviour and pitting corrosion of inclusion-contaning stainless steels. Dissolution of metallurgical heterogeneities, depassivation and pitting mechanisms are first discussed in 1 M NaClO4, pH 3, and 1 M NaCl, pH 3, by considering the chemical composition and morphology of inclusions. The influence of the chemical composition of passive films on the electrochemical reactions and the microgalvanic coupling processes occurring at the corrosion potential is also investigated on the same specimen microstructure.

Dynamic anomalies at the glass transition of organic van der Waals liquids

1993

Abstract The paper discusses the question of whether there is a characteristic temperature T c above the calorimetric glass transition temperature T g . Mode-coupling theory (MCT) predicts a crossover from liquid- to solid-like dynamics at T c . Neutron scattering and gradient NMR experiments have been carried out to test MCT using the molecular van der Waals liquid ortho -terphenyl as a model system. A significant anomaly of the Debye—Waller factor and a “decoupling” of self-diffusion from viscosity support the MCT predictions. A critical discussion of the relevance of such tests and of the limitations of neutron scattering is presented.

Modifications électrochimiques de surfaces et dispositifs électroniques organiques

2018

Organic electronics remains a fruitful research field thanks to the diversity of molecular structures reachable by organic synthesis. Molecular materials offer convenient shaping processes, such as solution processing techniques, which can be used for the fabrication of organic devices on plastic substrates. Our works can be summarized as the elaboration of conductometric devices thanks to electrochemistry and the study of their electrical and sensing properties. They deal with two topics: the development of new transducers based on substituted polyanilines and phthalocyanines and the study of the influence of electrochemical modifications on the behavior of known devices. We first developped…

Gelling and the collective dynamics in ferroelectric liquid crystals

2020

Dielectric spectroscopy has been applied to investigate the dynamic behaviour of a ferroelectric liquid crystal in the smectic C* and smectic A phases confined in gel matrices of a fibre like (1D) or platelet like (2D) structure. These gel matrices were obtained from semicarbazide or bis-acylurea derivatives, which self assemble because of their H-bonding motif. The confinement strongly influences the magnitude of the spontaneous polarization and the collective fluctuations of the director detected as the Goldstone-mode. It is thus possible to detect gelation by dielectric spectroscopy. By this method it was possible to follow the destruction and restoration of the gel structure induced by …
